Walk with Shay 1

Incredible pieces of Celtic History that you could win

As you may already know, we have 2 Celtic tops (1 home and 1 away) signed by the last 11 Club Captains of Celtic Football Club spanning the past 53 years of our unbroken history, from Billy to Broony. These items have been professionally designed and framed, containing all the players’ relevant stats. These truly are two of a kind and are a once in a lifetime opportunity to be the proud owner of.  The signing of the tops took us around 18 months to achieve and the journey and story behind this was amazing. We plan to share this story with you over the coming weeks.

We are also delighted to announce that the money raised from the Captains tops (and other special prizes) will not only support Shay but also the wonderful work of the Celtic FC Foundation.

This is our plan

The WalkWithShay Campaign is now fully registered with the Licensing Board to run lotteries (raffles); and we are planning to hold our 1st raffle where the First Prize will be the Away Club Captains top, together with many other great Celtic related prizes.  The draw date for this raffle will be 25th May 2017 (no need to remind you of the significance of that date). We need help to sell our raffle tickets for £5 each and spread awareness before then. Yes, that’s right, you could win the Away top for just £5!!!! The Home top will be raffled/auctioned or sold at a later date.

This is where we need your help…

We’re looking for

67 Supporters Clubs / Groups / Associations / Online Communities/Businesses/Establishments or super Individuals to each sell up to 50 (Lisboa) tickets @£5 each

This will form our Green Battalion

and

67 individuals to sell up to 10 (IAR) tickets @ £5 each

This will form our White Battalion

You are of course all welcome to sell more or indeed a smaller quantity of tickets, if you so desire. Regardless of what you sell (or buy) we really appreciate your support.

We would like to have all our sellers registered before Monday 3rd April, which is when we plan to go live with the sale of our raffle tickets. There is a bit of work here to ensure we comply with our license, so please contact us now.

Please help us recruit by sharing our story with your family, friends and colleagues.

Will you Join Wee Shay’s Green Raffle Army?

Are you able and willing to help and support this amazing initiative? If so please email us at walkwithshay@yahoo.com or if you are on Twitter send us a direct message @walkwithshay we are also on Facebook.

Thanks for taking the time to read our update and we really hope you can support Shay and his young family.

Yours forever in Celtic and thank you for Walking with Shay.

  1. Found this in today’s Lennox Herald:

Jim Devine, civil servant, Celtic supporter

Born February 17, 1951, in Renton

Died March 3, 2017, in Vale of Leven

Jim Devine, who has died of cancer at home, aged 66, was a long-serving civil servant in the Clyde Naval Base at Faslane and Coulport.

Jim started his working life as a teenage stores boy in the Royal Naval Torpedo Factory in Alexandria.

In 1969 he was transferred to the Garelochside base when the Ministry of Defence closed down the torpedo technology establishment and switched its commitment to nuclear weapons and submarines at Faslane and Glen Douglas.

Jim Devine was a loyal servant of the ministry for 50 years.

He gained the South Atlantic Medal, a campaign medal awarded to British military personnel and civilians for service in the Falklands War, which took place between the UK and Argentina in 1982.

He sailed to Port Stanley with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary’s flotilla of supply vessels, which included RFA Regent, RFA Resource, RFA Fort Austin, RFA Fort Grange and RFA Stromness, which was attacked by an enemy A-4C Skyhawk but sustained only minor damage.

Colleagues looked up to Jim, whom they admired for his encyclopedic knowledge of every item in the supply stores and on the ships and submarines. According to his brother Gordon, while he spent his time reading through newspapers and magazines Jim was engrossed in the MoD inventory for naval stores.

He is said to have been a painstaking perfectionist in all he did and a patient manager who was prepared to share information and data with colleagues and young people, whom he helped to train.

Jim Devine was born in Renton, home of the eponymous team which won the first World Cup in 1888. He was football crazy.

He was an avid supporter of Celtic Football Club, whose early stars James Kelly and Neil McCallum also came from Renton and distinguished themselves with the villagers before moving to Parkhead.

Jim, who was educated at St Mary’s Primary School in Alexandria, and St Patrick’s High School, Dumbarton, was a handy footballer.

He played at school and in fiercely contested works tournaments before he became a season ticket holder and investor in Celtic.

Jim Devine had huge admiration for the Lisbon Lions and would have been proud, although not pleased, that the funeral of one of his heroes, Tommy Gemmell, the Celtic left back in 1967, took place

at the same time as his own on Friday.

Only one thing took precedence over Jim’s career and his football commitments and that was his family.

He was happily married to Moira, a bank official in Dunbartonshire, who sadly predeceased him two years ago, and they had two daughters.

Kerri is a doctor, who works as a registrar in a Newcastle hospital, and Meghan is a solicitor with a leading law firm in Glasgow. Kerri sang the psalm and Meghan did the readings at Jim’s funeral.

Parish priest Father Charles McElwee, celebrated the funeral Mass at Our Lady and St Mark’s Church, Alexandria. Two former priests of the parish, Canon Brendan Murtagh, and Father James Docherty, were among the concelebrants.

Father McElwee, who presided at the final commitment in Vale of Leven Cemetery, told the large congregation that Jim and Moira had both given great service and support to the parish for more than 30 years.

They were devoted parents who gave a great example to their daughters.

Moira was an excellent cook and Jim was a talented baker and they both made certain that the priests of the parish were well fed.

Jim’s brother Gordon, who delivered the eulogy, said his brother was a big music fan, whose favourites included Brian Ferry and Roxy Music.

He said he was proud of him for having lived a full and interesting life, during which he took great pleasure and a great deal of pride in his family and friends – and his football team.

Celtic Football Club sent a message of condolence and a wreath to his funeral.

  4. TONTINE TIM, I must have met Jim Devine at some point. I was at St Pat’s from 1961 to 1967, then at Faslane with the civilian engineering service department until 1971. In those years I also played football at many levels in Dunbartonshire, even played for the Base against crews from visiting ships and subs. Spent many post match pissups in Helensburgh.

To what DAVIDOPOULOS said The White Hart is fine though gets very loud (maybe a sign of my age).

  6. A great St. Patrick’s Day to everyone.

Quick drive down the Strip here in Vegas earlier for a meeting revealed green swathed revelers out with their swallys at 9am. Busy day ahead for bartenders in the city.

Also, it’s the college basketball March Madness weekend here too. Judging by the sports books, a colossal amount of money changing hands over the course of the weekend. Vegas hotels charging premium rates as the airplanes unloading a stampede of punters at McCarran International.

Don`t know if you are still around but The Hole in the Wall at Waterloo was a pub I always liked . Great choice of Real Ales ( and the owner was Irish ie I don`t know if he is still there)

OK, I understand that; however, IMHO the player most culpable at the Waghorn (Pen) chance is Sviatchenko. He is meant to be marking Waghorn but lets him get away. See here:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/scotland/39251234

The ball goes by Boyata (he should have blocked it) but Sviatchenko doesn’t track the run of the player he is marking. He is also slow to react when Boyata misses the ball. 2 bigger mistakes from Sviatchenko as I see it.

    KTF

    ——–

Just watching this again, the Wagpen chance in the second half (3 minutes in) we make a few critical mistakes. Brown is with Miller but as Miller movies into the space in behind the fullback Brown points to Boyaya to pick up Miller as he runs off him. I would argue that Brown should go with the runner himself. Then as Miller runs down the wing Boyata should be bursting a gut to stop the cross, he isn’t and the cross comes in. As this is unfolding Sviatchenko is incredibly slow to react to the fact that Wagpen is standing in the box unmarked. The positive aspect being that Craig Gordon sees all of this and reacts brilliantly to get out to Wagpen and block his shot.

  14. What a raffle. What a cause . What a prize.

Won’t be in the country when the selling starts but I can account for 10 tickets right now.

Any Ayrshire sellers, set them aside.

Will there be a website/page apart from facebook that details the raffle and prizes on offer?

  15. Interesting to see that the online story about Jim Devine is in a sub section of the so called Daily Ranger.

  16. The Young Ones won 5-0?

    Irrelevant, good all the same.

*I was there fae 60 tae 63 and although I’m fae the Vale, went tae the same schools and attended the same pineapple as Jim I cannae recall him. I did know his wee brother Gordon pretty well though possibly from the Lomond CSC.

Looking at his age I’m a couple of years older than him and he would only be around 16 when I got married so I was out of the Vale social circuit for a while.

I actually met him on here and we conversed off line for a while until I moved home and changed my e-mail addy losing his. I doubt he was at Lisbon but I do know he was in Milan in 1970 hitchhiking himself across Europe.

What I found unusual about him was he only had one employer, so retro as that’s what our grandparents usually did.

Interesting to see that the online story about Jim Devine is in a sub section of the so called Daily Ranger.

*according to Jim the author periodically travelled to Celtic games with him. He was at school with my brother and was a neighbour of Mrs TT when she was younger. He is through marriage related to our goalie coach.

  27. There were some SNP MSP’s who voted for Brexit, Alex Neil for example, the SNP are using Brexit to demand another independence referendum as Scotland did not vote for Brexit, how can this be a consistent position? Seems a bit of a mess

  28. Evening all. Another great day here in the best training centre of any club in the 4 corners of our beautiful flat earth. This afternoon the boys had a pre match training session which was magical and wonderful.

We made our way into the city centre and after consensus it was agreed we spend St Patricks day in the best Irish bar in Glasgow, the Louden Tavern in the most glorious Cessnock area of this magnificent city. The bar was lively and I was told had a perfect mix of both Champions of Europe Elect and your own 2nd rate fans in attendance. It was the most generous, loving, peaceful, joyous and celebratory atmosphere of any bar/restaraunt I have had the pleasure of attending. The Irish music was wonderful and beautifully accompanied by a gentleman on a gorgeous big drum and a few guys playing the flute. I intend to return every Friday as it turns out this is also popular with Scotland’s sports media gents who like to mix amongst those they adore.

Tonight I will draw up the tactics in blue crayon on blue paper before pinning on the playroom wall at Auchenhowie in the morning. Although I agreed with my magnificent captain that these tactics will only be enjoyed in the playroom before the best squad in the world get down to the real action on the park. Why change a winning formula?

In the morning a few Celtic supporters have agreed to act as moving tackle practice for this skilful team. I will consider the health and safety of your fellow 2nd rate supporters and dress them in padded full body strips just in case of the unlikely event one of my boys has a blackout in the challenges and accidentally hurts one of your friends.

I have also requested the club install moon roofs in all club cars to allow the lads to access the natural vitamin D available 24 hours a day. These will be installed just behind the best sun roofs available that were installed on Monday at my insistence.

I haven’t heard yet about my application to be ordained into the Association of Professional butchers. I also passed on my plans for the chapel renovation at Ibrox but I had to make a concession on room choice as it appears my first choice was the Association of Professional Butchers meeting room. I agreed that this was of more importance than my chapel or any church on this planet. It is a listed room regulated under Scottish Law.

Looking forward to tomorrow’s guard of honour from Hamilton. It will be a special day all round and most likely the most special day in the history of Scottish football.

    Good night and god bless.

  29. BBC Scotland News Huns; Tragic.

Not a mention of the Champions elect on thebrink of taking the country’s national sport title.

Instead, a rather cringeworthy bumming-up of a meaningless rugby international featuring Scotland’s ‘promising’ six-nation performance; Promising as in ravaged 61-21 by the English.

And of course a little mention of Hampden last May when ‘thousands of Hibs fans invaded the pitch, and a number of Rangers fans’.

    A ‘number of Rangers fans’.

That’ll be the ‘Rangers fans’ that brought a couple of thousand Huns onto the pitch with them?
