Whisper it, let’s have a home win at Ibrox tonight

479

On Saturday 8 September 1888, across the north of England, league football got underway. Since then leagues have spread to every corner of the globe where a remotely green patch of grass can survive. Thousands of national titles have been decided in that time, some, as we know to our cost, by the slenderest of margins.

The record winning margin, since 1888, across the globe, is shared by two teams, Paris St Germain and Cairo’s finest, Al Ahly, who both won their national titles by 31 points, PSG last year, Al Ahly in 2005.

Your team and mine are currently 30 points ahead of second placed Aberdeen with two games remaining. If we win away to Partick Thistle tomorrow, and against Hearts on Sunday, and Aberdeen drop fail to win both their remaining games, in Glasgow, against Newco tonight and Partick on Sunday, world football’s record books will be rewritten.

You don’t need the record books to tell you this is a special season, one you will remember fondly for the rest of your life, but in future, many the world over will learn about what Celtic achieved this season by reading their name either immediately below, or above, PSG and Al Ahly.

I remember the old days, when we hoped Aberdeen would drop points at Ibrox. Rangers were a basket case of a football club (nothing on today’s Ibrox incarnation, of course), while Aberdeen were one of the top clubs in Europe, and formidable competition for Celtic.

We can be more circumspect now with our sentiment, but – wait for it, I hope Brother Pedro gets a result tonight. He’s working on our place in history.

  3. Hail! Hail! What a day, so far.

Met a CQN poster , Dennis from Perth WA and his gentleman of a father looking great at 85 years of age all the way from Clydebank. We were joined by Tom from Hamilton as we paid our respects at Estadio Nacional today. Bit of a story as we gained access due to me trampling all over the mono block paving the guys were laying for the impending cup final. The foreman got a bit ratty but another memeber of staff intervened before it got too heated and he led us into the stadium.

No access to pitch or podium area but still great to be there. Took a few photos and they are now proudly up on Twitter. We all the retired to a local cafe to toast the Lions with a couple of cold beers.

A pleasure to meet Celtic fans and a big thanks to my other half who tolerated 3 grown men acting like big weans as we shared Celtic stories.

We the headed to Cascais for a lovely late lunch. Overlooking the ocean as I write just now.

Once again, it was a pleasure to be there in great company.

    That was a good read.

Personally I would like Celtic to produce more home grown players for the simple reason that they will have a tendency to be more likely to stay with the team rather than jump down south at the first offer of a big paycheck.

  9. As I remember events in April 2011 there was a lot of smoke being blown into folks faces in the week RFC mentioned the wtc liability in their Interim accounts.

The very fact that the accounts were delayed until 1st April had many bloggers raising eyebrows. Celtic Underground in particular with their business experience thought delay was significant to get past the 31st March checkpoint for unpaid tax.

The accounts themselves and the covering statement that liaibility was potential with discussions on a resolution gave rise to the myth adopted by Regan and the media that the bill had not crystalised.

At that point it would have been difficult to challenge that narrative as it would have meant accusing Rangers, Johnson and their auditors Grant Thornton of lieing.

The public statements that Canalamar refers to SHOULD have had questions asked by the SFA as they differed from the statement in the Interim accounts but who was going to make them do that?

Certainly not the media who have made prodigious efforts not only not to ask questions but help keep the truth buried by mis reporting events.

No one was more suspicious than I on that licence being granted, but in the absence of knowing the process and without anything to hang questions on there was nothing to question.

THEN in August 2011 the SOS called to collect the wtc bill and the alarms went off because you don’t take extreme collection measures within 4 months of a liability that has not crystalised. From there interest intensified and it took some time to understand the process but a number of folk started asking questions of SFA and UEFA.

A blog on Celtic Underground had over 20k reads reporting Recorded Delivery letters to UEFA that would have alerted them in August to an issue had they not been aware via media reports.

I’ll leave it there for now but I will say that in general terms a lot of smoke was being blown in the eyes of lots of questioners.

It was put to me that a bill could not be overdue if it had not been presented, which changed focus to the June checkpoint, but that point could only be made in ignorance of what UEFA required that only emerged in time.

The whole story will be worth the wait when the smoke clears.

Before I got to your closing sentence, I had made the mental connection of the tenant Planters with the Ibrox Punters.

    Auldheid,

Irrespective of what we knew, the Plc were responsible to know the requirements and rules pertaining to the business they operate in.

The Plc were responsible to know the licensing application rules and compliance requirements.

They were also responsible to know the appeals organisations and process.

They would have known exactly when the license application was formally issued to UEFA and the introduction of the five year expiry, two extremely relevant pieces of information you would expect people who claim to be cooperating would maybe want to share eh.

Do you ever think about why we were denied access to view a blank copy of the license application.
