Whitewashing in the age of Judicial Reviews, fans united, we’re gonna do it anyway

Mike Ashley’s petition for a Judicial Review of the processes the SFA followed when finding Dave King fit and proper to run a football club is a lightbulb moment. The decision, taken by the SFA board, was not unanimous. I am sure some pointed to King’s enormously controversial past and alerted supportive voices of the potential for trouble ahead.

The dissenting voices were voted down, but just like Heidi Poon, their unwelcome guidance will ultimately be found to be assured.

What Ashley has demonstrated is that anyone can ask for a Judicial Review. CQN’ers could ask for one into the scope, probity and remit of the Lord Nimmo Smith Commission, for example. I discussed this some time back with an advocate who suggested we hold tight.

The SFA and SPFL must tread carefully, they are no longer in control of events. It would be wise for them to wait until the Supreme Court appeal notification deadline passes before choosing any path.

In the meantime, whoever decided to fan the flames by launching the “no appetite” blocking strategy should calm the waters. There is enormous appetite to look into what many within and outside of Scotland are calling the biggest cheating scam in British sport.

People are angry right now, not at the cheating they have suspected for years, but at the authorities attempt at whitewashing.

There are demonstrations and boycotts being discussed. Millions of words have been written.

Groups of Celtic and Hearts fans are becoming unnervingly cooperative, good grief! See what you’ve done, Mr “No Appetite” man? Supportive understanding is NOT how I usually relate to Hearts, Hibs, Aberdeen, United or Dundee fans. Even Motherwell fans!

Before we get Labi Siffre records back in the charts…

Before the PPI industry start sending “Is there a Judicial Review you’d like to instruct” recorded messages to our phones….

A calming word from the SPFL, in the first instance, should be issued. All it needs to do is acknowledge the Court of Session verdict, and that the notification deadline for a subsequent appeal has not passed. This would commit to nothing, but it would also supersede the earlier attempt to whitewash, and perhaps allow some to get back to doing their day jobs.

For the record, a whitewash will simply not be possible. The fan-mechanisms, honed in 2012, are fired-up. We’re gonna do it anyway.

On Ashley, I’ve said this before about him, our enemy’s enemy is not our friend. Ashley has good reason to raise legal actions against those who subverted his interests at Newco, but he is not someone you or I would want associated with our football club. Those who campaign to remove his influence from their clubs (including Newcastle) do so with sound reason. Even if their tactics harm their club far more than Ashley.

  1. We live in very interesting times, it irks me slightly to see some posters turning their ire on Celtic, demanding statements etc, I think Celtic are right to play their cards close to their chest at least until the time allotted for an appeal has expired,

The groundswell for action against the cheaters needs to emanate from Supporters of all Clubs in Scotland, banners at grounds, online petitions, threatened Boycots etc. There may come a time we need to turn our guns on the custodians of our own Club but not yet.

I remember it was warm, kelvingrove park I think.

I was strolling through, I then clock this girl( About 25), with a Gary Stevens era rankers top on.

The closer she got, I could see that unusually for a hunnite, she was very good looking indeed.

So, I just kept walking,…as I passed, she gave me a wee smile.

After ten seconds, I turned to clock her…..I noticed she had something printed on the back of the strip.

This is what it said: WEE BIGOT

You know me and my cynisism when it comes to the media, in a way I can understand the scottish hacks, they have to live among the hoards and have family’s to consider, they also have their jobs to think of, but outwith scotland.

This is much bigger than football, it has everything, fraud, theft, spivery, lies, cheating, cover ups, whitewashes, you name it, it’s got it all, it even has a porn baron thrown in ffs, yet silence, Ok, AT has blogged about it and fair play to him for that, but why no major main stream ?

Beware the cabal, their tentacles are far reaching, just look at how long it took for the Hillsbrough stuff to come out, this has high ranking judicary, government ministers, police to contend with.

Will the truth out, not in my lifetime mi amigo, but that shouldn’t, and hopefully won’t stop the bampots for trying to expose them at every turn.

I believe we are seeing the start of the whole Glasgow Rangers and the Rangers cheating begin to unravel and I believe the SFA and the SPL are going to be drawn in.We will in my view find out more and more as some of the participants try to jump ship. Mike Ashley is no easy touch but if you sup soup with the Devil expect the Devil to want your soul. In court many of the lies will come out in the open and it could take the whole sorry mess down this is the biggest scandal every in British football and despite all the bluster from the MSM and ex-players it is not going to go away.H.H.

  6. Corckcelt I could not disagree with you more. Its time that celtic stopping hiding behind its supporters when it comes down to difficult subjects. A support they are only too willing to turn on.

It is celtics responsibility both morally and from a PLC perspective to tackle this issue and to show leadership.

It is simply unacceptable for them to hide away in a corner and push us out to do their work for them.

I am glad to see that he is very aware of the detail involved. Perhaps once the dust has settled after the 2nd of December, there will be some coverage of it. I’m not sure how long the Hillsborough inquest goes on for.

Even if it didn’t, I’d be happy for Owen Gibson to take it on. He is also a formidable journalist who has specialized in the goings on in FIFA and UEFA.

I will probably ask again in December to see where they are at. I’ll contact Paul for your details.

The PR frenzy, led by the shambolic nightly radio programmes to spread lies as true and simplify legal processes as football scores is very transparent. Both Mitchell and BFDJ say SEVCO are 2-1 ahead in tax cases. It’s idiocy beyond anything I’ve ever encountered.

  10. Neganon, It doesn’t surprise me that you disagree with me. This is your typical response. If Celtic started issuing statements and demanding the stripping of Titles at this stage, it would be quickly portrayed worldwide as an old firm spat. Celtic would be ridiculed and would lose the potential to win allies as other Clubs would not want to be seen siding with the main combatants.

This is not about Celtic V R*ngers, it’s about right and wrong, it’s about the ethos of sport. WE need first to see out the appeal period, any ammo fired before then is a waste of resources. If this is appealed everything is on the back burner, We keep it bubbling so the SFA know they just can’t sweep it under the carpet. If there is no appeal and the verdict is accepted fact, then is the time for action.

This is too important to rush in and get it wrong. I feel we MUST wait until the time for an appeal has ended.

Any mistakes will be pounced upon and used as a distraction. Look at the Petition. Seemed a good idea and I signed but now it has been hijacked by some and gives the MSSM the opportunity to turn it into a laughing matter. That is the last thing we want.

What’s interesting about this article is how some newspapers like the daily mail will quote one person who welcome the arrest and about five who are critical.

It makes you think about the current offensive in Scotland. You quote Darren O’Dea for a sense of balance before getting ex-SFA chiefs and WGS in line on the other side. I suspect 5 to 1 will be about right in this case.

“Mike Ashley’s petition for a Judicial Review of the processes the SFA followed when finding Dave King fit and proper to run a football club is a lightbulb moment.

It is indeed, and the timing couldn’t be better, the thing with the SFA is that they’ve never felt accountable to anyone, from their refereeing standards (sic) to their officers rulings to their interpretations of the rules and articles of association. They have believed they were a law unto themselves and above reproach. The scandals hitting the highest sporting bodies including the major Football authorities will be a timely reminder to get their house in order.

The MA review will tell them, they are indeed accountable and those bodies better be well buried.

So when they approach the Rangers BTC, if they’ve developed any smarts, they’ll realise this has to be conducted in an open and transparent way – and the wrongdoing must be rigorously examined and be dealt with, without fear or favour.
