‘WHY I DROPPED McGREGOR,’ DEILA

RONNY DEILA has revealed he left Callum McGregor out of the Celtic team yesterday because he was “not ready to play” after being charged with drink-driving.
The player was detained by police after being pulled over in Glasgow’s Robroyston area in the early hours of Friday morning. A report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal for alleged road traffic offences.

Deila confirmed his decision to overlook the 22-year-old forward for the 2-0 Scottish Cup win over East Kilbride.

The Norwegian admitted: “There’s been a lot of pressure on him in the last day or so and he’s not ready for playing a game.”
Asked for the club’s position on the alleged offence, the Hoops boss replied: “I can say we don’t like this.
“This is something against everything and something we have to react to.

“This is not in our hands, it’s with the police. We have to take the punishment that he gets and after that we have to support him. He’s a young guy.

“We are very glad that nothing went wrong, that he didn’t hurt anybody else. We’re lucky with that. These things have to be learned from.

“What’s done is done. He has to take his punishment and we learn from it.”
