0.07%: SCOTLAND’S CHANCES

ONLY a miracle can save Scotland from World Cup Finals elimination.

Following results last night and this morning, Opta have calculated the chances of Steve Clarke’s men progressing at just 0.07 per cent.

The Scots currently sit TENTH in the 12-team third-place table, with only the top eight progressing to the last 32.

Scotland now need three scenarios if they are to stay in the competition. If any of these fail, then they are officially out and will be heading home after winning just one – a 1-0 victory over Haiti – and losing two – 1-0 against Morocco and 3-0 against Brazil in the group stages.

They require Ghana to beat current third-placed side Croatia by at least three goals, so that the Croatians have the same points tally as Scotland and a worse goal difference.

That game will kick off at 10pm this evening.

DR Congo will face Uzbekistan tomorrow at 12.30am and the Scots need Uzbekistan to win or draw. If they win by four or more goals they will go ahead of Clarke’s side.

Thirdly, they must hope Austria win by two or more goals to push Algeria behind Scotland on goal difference.

That match will commence tomorrow at 3am.

Only the most optimistic among the Tartan Army are holding their breath.
