11 short days before CL duty

836

Work ahead of the new season is underway in earnest after Celtic came through a game in Austria against top flight Russian club FC Krasnodar in Austria yesterday afternoon.  Every hour has to be carefully planned from now on.

Ronny Deila has only 11 days before taking to an Icelandic field on Champions League duty.  Players need to step up, from 45 minutes against a fellow-preseason team, to 90 minutes of competitive action against a team who are already midseason.  Pushing muscles too hard now will be counterproductive; players need a planned gradient of training, rest and games to get them as close to peak condition as possible.  No matter how well this goes, the players will be short of their peak for weeks.

Trying hard not to think or talk about signings but it’s good to see Craig Gordon confirmed.  Fraser Forster is the most committed professional at the club, so he’s not a player who needs to be driven to improve, but we all need fresh incentives to go back to the well again, and the arrival of Craig will give Fraser fresh focus after returning from a disappointing World Cup campaign.

Welcome to Celtic, Craig.

There are around 36 CQNers already out on Aberdour Golf Course in what could be described as ‘fresh’ conditions.  A great night lies ahead.

This year we are raising money for Glasgow the Caring City and The Cookiejar Foundation. We have two copies of this magnificent canvas, signed by Billy McNeill, one is available to the highest bidder on ebay here.

The other is available for raffle. Every donor to this JustGiving page gets an entry in the raffle. The minimum donation is £1, which we can all afford to participate in, although you can donate as much as you want. Our thanks to @BarryMcGonigle for the image on the canvas and OPG Graphics for creating the work.

  1. 130/1 for both tonights games to be over 2.5 goals in the first half.

The group stages drove this market down, thankfully, the first knockout rounds have pushed the odds well back up.

Thanks for the concern but I did put a :-) at the end of my post to indicate I was not serious.

As Hamilton Tim posted, there is little chance of my 5 a side exertions leading to heart attacks. I am a deft exponent of letting the ball do the work. On top of that, I am a deft exponent of letting the other silly bassas do the running. I play at the back and spray imaginary passes to imaginary team mates.

I was just having a wee laugh at the gowfers, that’s all.

Welcome on board to the good ship CQN. And all who sail on her!

  7. now stealing golf balls is an excellent form of exercise for the older gentleman

a quick sprint onto the course to grab the misplaced drive then back to your hiding place in the woods for a ten minute rest waiting on the next group to come onto the tee, which is vitally important so as not to overdo the old ticker

How much does it cost in policing, traffic closures etc from 9.00am to 4.30pm on a Saturday?

To allow that bunch of tramps to roam our streets befouling everything that they touch is just not on for a city/country about to welcome the world into it’s arms for the Commonwealth Games.

What other culture celebrates it’s hatred of Catholics, Irish, Jews, Blacks, Pakistanis, Chinese, immigrants etc… openly and without fear of arrest by the police or comment from the media except here, in our dear land? Is it the fear of civil unrest or is it something deeper and more worrying.

Forget pishing down, i hope there is lightning and hale (hail) stones for the whole time.

Good afternoon from a scorching 30*C here in Nordrhein Westfalen. To all the CQN golfers and après golf fans, aka bevvy merchants, have a great day.

Not long to KO in the Germany v France game and hopefully a party afterwards. Invited to a BBQ with the neighbours which will go down nicely with the football.

I watched the game last night and was suitably impressed, though I won’t be putting too much stock into a pre-season friendly, but at least it keeps the snipers off the blog – I only too well the remember the carnage on these pages from last year’s pre-season friendlies.

We appear to have a cracking keeper in young Fasan – get him signed up long term Celtic. I would also think that a lot of credit needs to go to Stevie Woods because the goalkeeping department appears to be outstanding at the moment.

for your information and future reference so as you do not jump on the offended green Hun bus again.

Being of schooling age, I have had the misfortune of being joint Power of Attorney (both financial and personal) for an aging uncle who died after 10 years of sufferring from Alzheimers the last 3 years of which when he was blighted by pshycotic alzheimers. during that period there were many difficult times but there were also many good and happy times in his company caring for him. i got to learn much about his history as a young bhoy from his time of birth in 1927 through to his death in 2010. that is a time I would not give up for anything no matter ho personally difficult it was for my uncle or myslef. And yes i did laugh lots and lots through this period and still do looking back although the laughter is tinged with sadness and some tearful moments.

so thank you but I will joke and laugh about alzhiemer however much I wish. You can be offended all you wish.
