BRONDBY told clubs to pay up or shut up as interest in their star asset Mathias Kvistgaarden was stepped up as Monday night’s transfer deadline loomed.
Celtic, desperately searching for a successor to Kyogo Furuhashi after his £10million move to French outfit Rennes the previous week, were linked with the in-form Danish striker.
Brendan Rodgers, in fact, has been monitoring the 22-year-old frontman since August 2023 – just two months after his return to Parkhead – but there has been no reported firm offer for the frontman who has yet to be capped at full international level by his country.
ON THE RUN…in-demand Brondby frontman Mathias Kvistgarden in full flight.
Brondby chairman Jan Bech Andersen revealed there had been bids for £11million-rated Kvistgaarden, but did not specify the identity of the clubs who were chasing the forward.
The club supremo, speaking to local media Tipsbladet, admitted: “Yes, we turned down offers – concrete ones and less concrete ones. There were never any numbers that made us deviate from our plan not to sell him in this transfer window.
“They weren’t good enough, but, hopefully, it will be when the time is right for him and the club.
“It was 100 per cent a goal for us to keep him for the rest of the season. There have been many enquiries about him – on the last day and the penultimate day of the transfer window.
“But we have a good dialogue with Kvistgaarden and his agent about what we are trying to achieve together. And the plan was for him to play for us in the spring, when we have many big goals to achieve.
“Then we have to see what happens in the summer.”
Kvistgaarden who has scored 10 goals and contributed four assists in 15 league games this season, is under contract at the club until June 2027.
In the absence of Kyogo, Adam Idah will lead the attack for the third successive game when the champions host Dundee tonight.
The Republic of Ireland international frontman has claimed three goals in his previous two outings, a double in the 4-2 Champions League loss to Aston Villa in the Midlands last week and one in the 3-1 win over Motherwell at Fir Park on Sunday.
