125 kit and an SPL comparison

1030

A Hibs fan suggested to me on Twitter that as his team are wearing their home kit for next week’s Scottish Cup Final Celtic should take the opportunity to wear their 125th anniversary top. Despite there being 100 years precedent of Celtic and Hibs both wearing their home kits, recent rules (or perhaps customs) dictate that clubs are not permitted colour clashes.

That being the case, let’s take the opportunity to reach back to our founders and wear the anniversary kit.

Before that we have the small matter of Dundee United to play on Sunday. Celtic won the league by 20 points last season, 10 of which were gained after a competitor failed to come up with enough money to meet their commitments. Defeat at Tannadice could reduce this season’s winning margin to 10 points, in a season where everyone, even Hearts could afford to meet their commitments.

Who would’ve thought this SPL would be so competitive? Not me. More please.

Thanks for the excellent support for Willie Wallace’ autobiography. Orders in today from East Brisbane to West Didsbury and many places in between.

But not, to my knowledge, garden furniture.

JJ, I left a post for you at the tail end of the last thread regarding the golf outing. Nothing to do with wearing a Celtic onesie btw, although it does have a certain appeal:-)

He became a Jehovah’s Witness when he was playing, and they sent him as a missionary to Ireland, where he ended his career at Cork Celtic.

As usual on CQN long periods of the day yesterday until 1am and sleep, and didnt know whether to laugh or cry! Its long been my view that getting rid of the SFA as it is,should be the main tack. Rangers will go without the SFA taking care of them. There were a few with Auldtim trying to get something going along these lines and re a demonstration at the cup final. A larger section were (and still are) awfully upset because 4 St Johnstone players lined up with their hands behind their backs instead of clapping (yes it was bad form etc) another large group were, in beween, discussing mince curry recipies and where to go to get. It was comical to view from afar!! But then sad, any lurking spies would have gone back to report “no worry there”.

It would be great if a massive protest inclusive of Hibs fans could still be made in time.

When I looked last night the petition about “the 5 way agreement” was 170 short of the 3000 required/requested and I would think the vast majority were from CQN.

There was also some talk of the “fear factor” stopping other clubs putting thier Heads above the parapet with regards to action against Sevco or SFA. Why if Peter Lawell is in charge with Celtic the cause of everything?? If common seamen hundreds of years ago in the royal navy could come up with “the round robin” (names of complainants written around the mast so that there was no first,or leaders to be picked out). If my schoolboy history minds me well this was prior to the mutinies at Spithead and Nore over conditions, some were still hung!! Surely in this day and (technical) age a masonic like secretcy could protect those smaller.clubs involved .

Note todays blogs mostly about colours of shirts for CF day.Not long to go to organise!!

  9. Just got email from one of my MSP’s

The Scottish Government via Roseanna Cunningham MSP , have just told him that they will not review the New Bill ( offensive behaviour at football ) early and can indeed delay a review by up to 12 months after the period 1/3/12 till 1/8/14 has ended .

More pressure needs to be applied , or this lot will kick it into the long grass and the victimisation of football supporters will get worse.

I will email you in the next 24 hours re my plans for the Aberdour Classic. Disappointed that you seem to be ruling out the possibility of a Celtic Onesie. If groups are of four and all wearing them, it would look like a Parkhead version of “Oh, Brother where art Thou.”

    McCourt

    Izzy

I be tempted to offer stokes new contract. useful player to have.

  14. Sorry Jungle Jim, just had to nip out to collect Grand-daughter from school. Hit the ball well today but had a disastrous day with my putter. My two playing partners weren’t much better. We were playing a waltzing rumble and in a 10 team event we came tenth. No unfortunately wont make CQN Golf. Re Bobby Tambling, I’ve been in his company 2 or 3 times over past couple of years. When anybody thinks about any support be it Juventus, Gallatassary, Milwall etc. they get a certain impression. i.e. violent/passionate/lunatic but all the time the people creating the impression are the Ultras. When I argue over here with EPL fans they define the Celtic Support good or bad with the actions of The Green Brigade. Thus I say a support is defined by its ultras.

Here’s response I received, at least he is not letting it go……

I am writing to provide an update in relation to your concerns about the policing of football fans in Scotland. As I said in my previous email, I lodged a question with the Scottish Government, asking whether the report on the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications Act could be brought forward in light of these concerns. My question to the Scottish Government has now received a response, which I have copied below.

This is obviously quite a disappointing reply, and I have now submitted a further question in response, also copied below. As I said before, I think this is a deeply flawed piece of legislation and I will continue to press the Government to properly address the problems arising from its implementation.

    Yours sincerely,

    Patrick Harvie

Patrick Harvie (Glasgow) (Scottish Green Party): To ask the Scottish Government whether, in light of reported concerns, it will bring forward a report on the operation of offences under section 11 of the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012 in advance of the completion of the review period.

Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP: Section 11 of the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012 requires Scottish Ministers, after having consulted such persons as they consider appropriate, to lay a report before Parliament on the operation of the offences at Sections 1 and 6 of the Act covering the period from 1 March 2012 until 1 August 2014. The Act requires the report to be laid no later than 12 months after the end of that period and the Government will bring forward a report in time to meet those statutory requirements.

Patrick Harvie (Glasgow) (Scottish Green Party): To ask the Scottish Government, further to the answer to question S4W-14226 by Roseanna Cunningham on 3 May 2013, whether it will provide the information that was requested and confirm whether it will bring forward a report before the completion of the review period; whether the legislation forbids it from doing so, and what its position is on how offences under section (a) 1 and (b) 6 of the Act are being dealt with.

In the absence of any other recognizable fan profile, then the news making ultras are likely to become the face of most club’s fans.

  18. corkcelt,

What you are saying is that others define the club by it’s Ultras, not how the club defines itself.

Even so, all the more reason for those who create an outward impression of the club should not act in any way which reflects badly on their club.

No matter which club it is.

I was in Amsterdam working earlier this year when two Chelski fans heard my accent in a bar- thousands of them had booked flights thinking they would be playing Ajax who lost a last minute goal to go out. Anyway- the first thing they asked was whether I was Celtic or Rangers- when I pointed out my emerald green t shirt they quickly told me of their allegiance to the dead club- and then asked what religion I was. I spent a bit of time having a drink with them but quickly made my excuses

  22. Ralph & thom I agree with ye both re fans, and I ultra agree with Ralph re grandkids. I’m very lucky in that regard, I have 3 kids myself, one is living 200 yards up the road and the other 2 live about 200 yards from each other about a mile away. I have 6 grandkids and a 7th due end of July. Anytime I like I can just head out for a decent walk call into the 3 houses en route and be back home in less then an hour after visiting all the grandkids.

I must be unique in my dealing with chelski fans, I was over in spain with about a dozen or mates from the gorbals, it was right at the start of the last world cup, anyway we are in this little celtic bar in guardemar when in walks about 15 of them, just before the kick off between engerland and the us,to test the water shall we say, en-mass we all walk out as GSTQ starts, then walk in singing the stars and stripes, they were pashin themselves, as the night goes on, it turns out each and every single one of them said celtic were there Scottish team and I mean every last one of them, they put the brothers in blue crap down to the huns and the headhunters, kinda backs up corkcelt.they would not let us leave until they heard one of our more traditional songs..cue a massive irish soldier laddie getting belted out…
