Development strategies

Booking £20m from TV rights in China over 10 years is a remarkable deal for the SPFL, it shows a lot of faith from broadcaster, PPLive, who have the responsibility to foster the league in the world’s most populous country.  The cash will be beer money to Celtic but represents a substantial income for most of the Premiership.

The deal opens the door for Celtic to follow-through, the only club with the wherewithal to exploit the merchandising, scouting and recruitment opportunities there.  We’ve seen strategies developed in Mexico, India and now China, while the European football-tourist market is also now being targeted through online partners.

None of this will put the ball in the Ajax net tomorrow night but it is important nonetheless.

Delighted we’re at Tynecastle in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.  Hearts players found the will to live against Hibs last week but they have little more than effort to their game.  Should be a cracking tie, which will not be subject to the performance vagaries of a home tie with Morton.

If is the BigotBC I think I know where there money will go :))

  2. Was watching the Justice Committee live stream of the debate about the large number of complaints MSPs are getting about the implimentation of the Offensive Behaviouir (OB) Act and the committee want to do something about it (exc Sandra White) but what to do is the problem.

Mainly opposition MSPs want an ad-hoc committee NOW to be set up to look into the implimentation of the Act.

SNP want to let the Act run its 2 year period before review.

Christine Grahame persuaded both views that as a first step the Justice Minister, Lord Advocate, and Chief of Police Scotland should be sent a letter today asking them to comment on the efficacy of the Act and implimentation as they see it. Then in a fortnights time the Justice Committee to decide what to do . Ad Hoc Committee or let it run its 2-years before review.

The “certain sections of the community” euphemism was used several times in relation to the Act being applied too forcefully and no one needed to ask which section that might be. Tims of course.

I remember a game at Tynecastle in the mid 90′s. Winning 1-0 with seconds to go, that wee sand dancer Brian McLaughlin loses the ball at the corner flag, ball gets hoofed up the park and Willie Jamieson smacks one in from 30 yards. (I never forgave him for that)

    ————————————————–

I also remember the opposite – 1985/86. last minute of injury time at Tynecastle on the first game of the season, Paul McStay scores with a low shot into the corner. Got us a draw.

Everyone remembers Albert Kidd on the last day of that season but that equaliser on the first day proved to be just as valuable.

I really hope this post is swiftly consigned to the irrelevant harbinger of doom dustbin of history…but it has been on my mind for a few weeks that on the recent occasions when fans of Spurs, Man Utd etc have been set upon by football hooligan gangs on away trips the cold-blooded ambushes have occurred on the evening preceding the game.

HH and stay safe in the ‘Dam tonight, bhoys

Just spent some time reading the comments attached to that article. They may be enlightening to those of us who don’t believe that anti Catholicism still exists in modern Britain (England).

On a similar subject,I got involved in a minor exchange on Saturday with some eejits dishing out some vitriolic racism, totally unchallenged by those in the vicinity.

Racism down here has been getting steadily worse. Speaking out against it is becoming steadily more, erm, awkward.

  12. I have to say that growing up in Greenock, we never associated Bonfire Night with anti Catholicism and never saw any effigies being burned other than ones of Guy Fawkes…..in saying that, read on below

“Sectarianism does not exist in the Lewes Bonfire Night Celebrations today, despite what you may read, hear or see from the media clowns or internet trolls. Ha, I hear you say “What About No Popery?” Popery was a catholic regime not a religion. Look it up” (In Lewes they burn an effigy of the Pope)

The author of the article is clearly quite deranged.

I lived in Birmingham for several years and never once exprienced anti RC bigotry. There was some anti- Irish feeling due to terrorist attacks in the 70s.

Could you imagine a loud mouthed know it all American coming to Scotland and telling us where we’re going wrong?

  16. really looking forward to tomorrow night but I worry we’ll risk injured players. Suppose it is worth the risk as a win will be huge. It may seem obvious but are they worth the gamble?

  17. Celtic_First @ 11:42,

Firstly well done on the completion of your Pilgramage, a wonderful achievement.

The main reason I refuse to accept they are the same club is that if they are, the game is a bogey.

If you can cheat to the extent they did, corrupt football’s administration all the way to UEFA, foment an atmosphere in which an opposition manager, players and even high-profile supporters are subjected to death threats, drive yourself into administration and liquidation out of a refusal to live within your means and emerge relatively unscathed, it’s time to find a new obsession.

Well I can’t disagree with any of that, yet fRom my prospective although they swerved proper punishment for their illegal activities, the fact Newco wasn’t allowed access straight into the SPL, as the great and the good tried to convince us wasn’t only desirable but necessary.

Then we had the SPL – SFL restructuring, once again the push for Newco to jump a tier or two was avoided.

I believe this was because their demanding, hubristic, menacing, self- entitlement back fired, for me that’s as good as it’s going to get.

If/when Newco get promoted through the Seasons to the top League most Will see things as business as usual, I hope their malevolence does not damage something hugely precious to all of us.

    Hail Hail

    “Cristina

it is no surprise to me to see the replies your mild piece engendered. Most of Britain is not rabidly anti-RC or anti-Irish but there are exceptions in the Orange tradition, Dawkinite humanists, the UKIP tendency, Dan Brown paranoiacs, High Tories and the Colonel Blimps and their preppy offspring who read the Telegraph.

And before any of these groups seek my repatriation. I was born here and I no longer profess the Catholic faith. You will have to find another route to express your prejudice with me.”

I don’t remember that game tbh. The 4 each draw at stalag hun and obviously the 5-0 against St Mirren. I also remember a game that season cos it was live on the telly Hearts 1 Aberdeen 1 with about 4 games to go in that season. That also had a huge bearing on the league that year. John Colhoun equalised for Hearts with about 3 mins to go.

I did know Mowbray’s daughter the Countess of Gainsborough who until a few years ago visited my aunt who played with her as a child on Allerton Estate.
