15-0 for Celtic in cups, marking Brendan’s card on 3 cup finals

401

One for the historians, has any team won the Scottish and League Cups in the same season without conceding a goal? So far this season, Celtic are 15 goals without reply in the cup competitions, with a possible three fixtures remaining, the first of which is at Celtic Park against St Mirren three weeks from now.

Brendan Rodgers described the remaining Scottish Cup games as “three cup finals”. I’ll mark his card, there is only one cup final to worry about and that’s the game against St Mirren. Plan beyond that and you risk a slip.

Lesser teams than them have eliminated us from cups in recent seasons, and the Paisley club have dumped us out twice recently. Any Celtic fan who has considered the possibility of a treble before will know how this story often ends too well.

There are various ways to reach the top of the managerial pyramid.  Accounts is the most common path, join the finance team and you get an oversight on most important areas.  Legal is another fertile field to progress to the top from.

Some technical people make it, especially in retail or engineering.  Few get there from marketing, HR or IT.  No one gets there from public relations, that’s a departmental dead end.

Of course, a PR monkey can hope to become the de facto decision maker, with his/her hands on all the necessary levers.  I can think of only one case like this.  The company/club concerned have not had a good week.  They’ve not even had good PR.

Blane Valley / Bearsden and Milngavie areas

As most fans will be aware, Glasgow City Council are introducing parking restrictions within 1 mile of Celtic park from August.  A group of Celtic supporters in the Blane Valley / Bearsden and Milngavie area are trying to organise a supporters bus that will go from the villages in the area (Drymen, Balfron, Buchlivie, Killearn, Blanefield and Milngavie/Bearsden).

If you would be interested in travelling to / from Celtic Park on a supporters bus from next season can you drop an email to BlanevalleyCSC@hotmail.com, with your name.

    What I can’t figure out is this;

Is a short term temporary job managing a hopeless, festering basket case, not actually BETTER than a long term job managing a hopeless , festering basket case?

  4. Canamalar,

i would think no agent would negotiate his principals exit on any other basis. Otherwise the agent would deserve a big kick up the keith jackson and maybe more.

    Good evening fellow Tims.

I have been enjoying – and I really mean enjoying – several hours of recap on the events that started five years ago.

There’s one question that has always bugged me. Bugged me at the time, and it still does.

HMRC wanted to nominate the administrators for RFC. I think they named a firm, but can’t recall which.

Craig Whyte wanted Duff & Phelps. There was a pause in proceedings, then Duff & Phelps it was.

HMRC went with this without demur.

    Why?

Be very grateful for answers/opinions from those who have a better grounding in this, i.e., everybody.

And Barry ends comedy hour by saying hundreds of managers would take the job. “No matter what’s going on behind the scenes, it’s Rangers”.

And that is why Rangers2 will end up in the same grave as Rangers1.

  7. The only realistic, long term solution to the huns financial problems is for Celtic to join the EPL.

    KC VIC,

there’s also the gossip that the agent has received calls from someone professing to represents Notts. If true, entrapment and constructive dismissal, someone could be due compensation.

  9. Richard Wilson declares on national radio that lack of finance at his favourite club is basically a red herring !

That the directors have / will cover any shortfall.

For how long Mr Wilson ? Forever ?

  10. Well that was a full hour BBC shortbread spent ‘debating’ the current situation at Ibrox.Boy did I feel sorry for Tom English, who alone tried and tried to inject some reality on the panel of ‘experts’.I am not sure I have heard such delusion since the Iraqi foreign ministers ‘everything is fine’tv interview with the american tanks coming over the horizon in the background…….lol

    I think you’re right.

They will wait until just before the season ticket renewals are to go out to appoint their next saviour/genius/real Rangers man/visionary to get the gullibles to part with their money. They will use that money to pay off the three ‘resigned’ employees to ensure it does not go to court.

The problem for them is that this only brings forward the point that they run out of cash next season.

This season it was October. Next season it will be September.

This is actually good because when the Three Bears stop putting the money in this isn’t an Administration.

There needs to be money there to run an Administration but there is no cash.

The whole point of them seeking protection from creditors is because they need to attempt to negotiate a pennies in the pound repayment. They cannot make a repayment because there is no money. This is a straight insolvency; pull up the draw bridge, padlock the gates, shut the shop, turn off the lights.

Even if the current directors are willing to fund an Administration all it would do is lose them even more money because they are the very people who are owed the most money and, if they do come out of Administration, Mike Ashley’s contracts remain in place.

The Administration will have to last from September till seasons end to allow another switcheroo. Who will pick up the tab for that length of time?

Meanwhile Ibrox is not getting any younger.

Rust does not improve with age.

Even Dave King has admitted that the stadium needs serious work. If you take that as being on the conservative side then it requires a hell of a lot of work.

I’m of the opinion that if they leave Ibrox they will simply never return. They cannot run a team, run their training complex, pay rent, buy new players, and renovate Ibrox.

Meanwhile the new coach will want his own staff and players brought in.

If they cannot get the new share issue resolution passed at an agm/egm to get rid of the debt, and possibly bring in new cash, they are cooked.

Strike that I think they are cooked anyway.

  15. Looking forward to the Citeh Bournemouth game and in particular watching Jesus. Should be plenty of goals!

  18. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan on

Good Evening from a warm Lisboa where today we have had brilliant sunshine and intermittent showers!

My legs are complaining as they have covered many a mile today including a trip to The Estadio Nacional and assorted areas of Lisbon.

On another occasion, I will write a wee blog about who I met and spoke to on my travels.

This is a football daft city and last night’s TV had almost wall to wall football on three separate channels with constant analysis and comment. One channel covered a game from Brazil which must have been played on the largest football pitch on the planet with the area of ground between the centre circle and the penalty box being HUGE!

I spent part of my day today in the company of a very pleasant Portuguese woman who openly professed that she does not follow football, has no interest in football and knows very little about football.

However, she could tell me that Celtic won the only European Final ever staged in this city, that the team stayed in the Palaccio Hotel in Estoril and that Celtic fans go to stay there every year just because the team stayed there. She could also tell me that they know hundreds if not thousands of fans are coming on “The Pilgrimage” in May!

Tonight the city has started to fill with Borussia Dortmund fans as they play Benfica tomorrow night in the Champion’s league.

I will gauge how many there are tonight when I am out for dinner.

Sipsini, Old Bean, as I recall you were going to make enquiries about flying out with us as at 15th Feb when the payday comes. Let me know what you decide and what dates you are travelling as I have asked one of the hotels to keep a room for you and your other half.

The hoteliers I spoke to today were all very happy because they were full and busy and they were also almost full in May.

I have made tentative arrangements for a large scale dinner on the evening of the 24th of May so that all CQN’ers can meet up and enjoy a party atmosphere and I will post details on the blog once I have finalised the arrangements. Hopefully, we will be joined by the cyclists, a film crew, some special guests and a band to give us some live entertainment.

Anyone who is going to Lisbon, or is interested in going and meeting up with us for dinner or who is looking for a hotel can drop me a line at jjoe88@hotmail.co.uk.

When I get home I will try to compile an updated list of those coming out for the celebrations.

They saw a sly way to try to dodge compensation, and out of desperation acted on it. Barra boys.

It’s like me going into where I work and asking my boss “what if…”

Probably not the brightest thing to do, but in no way does it constitute a resignation.

No signed letter or recorded offer of such, no resignation.

This is why Warbs et al have been told to zip it by their lawyers. It’s open and shut; the only way they can screw it up is by being goaded by King – or Jabba – into a back-court hen-fight. I am guessing they are too cute for that.

The Tribunal will find for the Mystified Three. £1.2 million. Cheerio, tribute act.

While I’m on …. did we ever find out the identity of the miscreants who picked sevco this weekend? Shocked and appalled I am!

  22. Warbs is owed £1.2m salary at least, and an alleged £500k bonus. Weary and McParland go on top of that so minimum £2m possibily up to as much as £3m.

  24. Hi Bhoys

I’ve had the misfortune to go through an employment tribunal myself 20 years ago.I was lucky enough to win mine.

The company were ordered to reinstate me and pay me full loss of earnings from dismissal to reinstatement.

These findings are not binding and as such can only be viewed as a recommendation. In my case the company refused to comply with the reinstatement and so I had my financial compensation increased.

I just wonder would the Snake Mountain 3 be willing to take their jobs back if they were offered them.

    KEEP THE FAITH

Indeed it is Fr John Campbell originally from Dumbarton. We couldn’t have asked for a better PP but yes his complete lack of interest in any football team is a strange one.
