15-0 for Celtic in cups, marking Brendan’s card on 3 cup finals

401

One for the historians, has any team won the Scottish and League Cups in the same season without conceding a goal? So far this season, Celtic are 15 goals without reply in the cup competitions, with a possible three fixtures remaining, the first of which is at Celtic Park against St Mirren three weeks from now.

Brendan Rodgers described the remaining Scottish Cup games as “three cup finals”. I’ll mark his card, there is only one cup final to worry about and that’s the game against St Mirren. Plan beyond that and you risk a slip.

Lesser teams than them have eliminated us from cups in recent seasons, and the Paisley club have dumped us out twice recently. Any Celtic fan who has considered the possibility of a treble before will know how this story often ends too well.

There are various ways to reach the top of the managerial pyramid.  Accounts is the most common path, join the finance team and you get an oversight on most important areas.  Legal is another fertile field to progress to the top from.

Some technical people make it, especially in retail or engineering.  Few get there from marketing, HR or IT.  No one gets there from public relations, that’s a departmental dead end.

Of course, a PR monkey can hope to become the de facto decision maker, with his/her hands on all the necessary levers.  I can think of only one case like this.  The company/club concerned have not had a good week.  They’ve not even had good PR.

Blane Valley / Bearsden and Milngavie areas

As most fans will be aware, Glasgow City Council are introducing parking restrictions within 1 mile of Celtic park from August.  A group of Celtic supporters in the Blane Valley / Bearsden and Milngavie area are trying to organise a supporters bus that will go from the villages in the area (Drymen, Balfron, Buchlivie, Killearn, Blanefield and Milngavie/Bearsden).

If you would be interested in travelling to / from Celtic Park on a supporters bus from next season can you drop an email to BlanevalleyCSC@hotmail.com, with your name.

  1. Any word on when leigh Griffiths is ready to return .. he must be gutted he’s missing all this game time. Lots of goals to be had.

  2. Was lurking earlier while at working and saw some discussion about Mike Ashley using Sevco as a vehicle for a go at the Champions League.

I really cannot see this as a plausible scenario. He had Newcastle in the EPL and expected them to at least break even, why would he use Sevco with their pitiful advertising and TV revenue, instead of Newcastle who had access to the riches and worldwide exposure of the EPL, to compete in the Champions League.

  3. Greeninbingleyinoslo,

Seems like risky action not too concerned about consequences. At 1942, Lazydynamite suggests a platoon of Chemical Ali’s on tonights RS show (TE exempted). Getting their news out there. Just to keep the fans onside? To divert attention? Anything and everything, full blast. Seems desperate right enough.

  4. My friends son that I used to play football with when I was in the UK now on loan at St Mirren.

Billy Obrien , goalkeeper on loan from Man City.

I will have to give him a shout.

    Thanks.

I also meant to write that, if the rumours are true, the reason the three ‘resigned’ is because some one has crunched the numbers and that the savings made, even if it only delays the outlay, allows them to make pay day this month.

Sometimes lots of threads come together.

Rumours abound that the three directors putting up the cash have said ‘No more’.

If you take that at face value then immediate savings have to be made.

Getting rid without paying compo reduces outlay even if ultimately you have to pay them further down the line……….. after season ticket money has come in.

I think somebody has crunched the numbers. I hope for their sake it isn’t Graham as he seems as big an albatross as their training facility.

Having got rid of the three they might scrape payroll this month although that leaves March and April.

Other stories doing the rounds are that Mike Ashley, or ‘Uncle Mike’ as he was originally dubbed before he became public enemy number one, was going to give them £100M although their doesn’t seem to be any word on what he wanted for that.

Hopefully they have hacked him off so much that they will never get that offer again.

As I said away back in 2012 who would want a major warehous site twenty minutes from Glasgow airport and on the junction of the M8/M74/M77 corridor. Mike may get his warehouse even if just to make a very sore point.

HT. Helping out in deepest Lanarkshire. Your post had me with a tear in the eye. We are all grateful to those who showed us the Celtic way. By the way, you have no hope of concerting your PP. I have tried with no success. Keep the faith and keep reminding of Bro. Walfrid’s vision.

JC has injected new life into my faith and my involvement in parish life. I count him as a friend as well as everything else he provides as my PP. In fairness when he was up for dinner on Friday night he did ask about the OBaF Act.

Whatever you give a woman, she will make greater. If you give her sperm, she’ll give you a baby.. If you give her a house, she’ll give you a home. If you give her groceries, she’ll give you a meal. If you give her a smile, she’ll give you her heart. She multiplies and enlarges what is given to her. So, if you give her any crap, be ready to receive a ton of shit!-

Just about sums up radio shortbread tonight , with the exception of Tom English .

Ps Walfrid’s vision should always be at the forefront of any Celtic supporter’s mind. If not then we’re just another football club.

  12. If Park etc have decided to stop funding the monthly losses, then things must be pretty grim indeed at Sevco.

I see the “supporters liaison” man has quit tonight too. Perhaps he – along with the 3 – is simply part of a cost-cutting drive?

Soon there will be a reckoning, just as there was 5 years ago.

  13. Dallas

She is enjoying daily mass and holy eucharist in Saint Brendan’s next door. Missing her wee house n garden in Kirkton though.

Will check out that photo. Having met Mick Jones in Derby in my Hoops and chatting to him about Irish politics and Thatcher, I knew he was a very well educated man.

  14. Just meant his conversion to Celtic fan. I do know you hold in high regard. I do know he is a great guy. Take care.

Hamiltontim, its hard to believe that photo was taken 40 years ago but still very topical what they were demonstrating against.

Your post last night about your grandad and the momentoes you found , was a great read.

I’ve just checked our next four fixtures, three of which are at Celtic Park and scheduled as Saturday three o’clock kick offs . Let’s hope it stays that way .

Delaney’s, she will be delighted how close she is to St Brendan’s with you and your family delighted she is out of the Southern.

It would be great if she gets back to her own house sooner rather than later.

The picture is on the second page of etims twitter.

The esteem I hold Mick Jones in is even higher. The three Big Audio Dyamite concerts I was at were all brilliant.

    You’ll claim it’s a joke. Personally, I think it’s the comment of a Hun.
