CELTIC are demanding £1million for striker Johnny Kenny.
The champions have knocked back a £500,000 bid from Bolton and the English third-tier club will have to DOUBLE their offer if they hope to land the 22-year-old Irishman, according to a report in the Scottish Sun.
Kenny was signed for the champions by Ange Postecoglou for £125,000 from Sligo Rovers in January 2022 – and his solitary first-team goal came in the 5-1 Premiership win over Aberdeen at Pittodrie last month.
THE SOLITARY STRIKE…Johnny Kenny (extreme left) turns away in triumph after leaving keeper Dimitar Mitov helpless with a flashing header in Celtic’s 5-1 victory at Pittodrie.
The former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international had to be patient to get the opportunity to show his qualities at Parkhead and had a brief 12-game loan period at Queen’s Park and two temporary stints at Shamrock Rovers before returning to Parkhead in December last year.
Brendan Rodgers opened the way for Kenny in the second half of last season with the pacy attacker making one start among his 10 appearances.
The Hoops boss spoke in glowing terms of the youngster after his neat header against the Dons and said: “He’s come in and obviously been limited in his opportunities, but it’s not stopped him.
“Johnny’s worked so hard every day and it was just about timing, really. It was about giving him the opportunity and he took it.”
However, with Rodgers linked to several strikers as he attempts to strengthen his frontline during the summer transfer window, it appears Kenny will be allowed to move – if the price is right.
