I may have told you this before, apologies if I’m repeating myself. Around 20 years ago, in a TV studio minutes after a Rangers victory, a former captain, Terry Butcher (what ever happened to him?), told the audience, “David Murray will not stop until he’s won two European Cups and 10 in a row.”
Use of the personal term “he”, not the club name, struck me. Murray was personally invested in this matter. Such a burning desire did not make David Murray a bad person, he owned the dominant club in Glasgow, but the team he was dominating had all that glorious history. If the boot was on the other foot, you’d want the same. I would.
Perhaps if Jock Stein had stayed at Hibs, Celtic would have stayed in mediocrity, David Murray would have had a more affordable dream and the liquidation of his club would not have been necessary.
You know it’s true…….
On Tuesday’s STV report that Hearts manager, John McGlynn, said:
“How many fans would think they could win the league if Celtic weren’t in it at this stage? All [clubs’] fans would.
“That would cause great excitement and I think it would bring fans back to the game, at the lower clubs.
“If you look at the rest of us outside Rangers and Celtic, we’d all fill our stadiums if we thought we’d realistically have a chance of winning the league.”
There are screeds written and spoken about our game but the McGlynn Plan is the most productive comment I’ve read all year. Well done to STV for the report, hopefully they will put the same questions to others in the league. This is the most important question for Scottish football right now.
It’s time for these clubs to throw off their downtrodden ways and genuinely compete for the Scottish title.
Still looking for a ticket for Celtic v Barcelona? Equally keen to acquire a Wee Oscar wristband? A CQN’er has very generously offered his ticket for next week to raise funds for the Wee Oscar Campaign. You can bid for the ticket/wristband package on ebay.
Tell everyone who asks you for a ticket to bid on the auction.

“Katanga my friends!”
If David Murray still has that driving ambition – might we see a team from Barlinnie emerging as a new force in European football?
Paul, what are they events still to unfold in this sorry saga?
Here is my limited view:
Administration: St Valentine’s Day
Liquidation: Halloween
FTT details: All Saint Day?
Title strip: Guy Fawkes?
BDO findings: Armistice Day?
Administration newco:Thanksgiving?
…and of course:
Every day: Christmas
Celts in Europe: After Christmas
Quick question not answered on the last blog. If Rangers are inflating their attendances are they not also inflating their income tax due? Why would they do it?

Envy is a terrible thing.
The clubs who play at Ibrox are perpetually living in Jock Stein’s shadow.

He took ill at the match on tuesday … Thinks it was the fish
Interesting article, Paul.
Butcher roundly boo-ed at his spiritual home last night after playing a patient and calculated game to do away with inferior opposition.
I am unfortunately on business in Bahrain next Tuesday. Any one know if there is a Celtic-friendly bar that will show the Barca game? On previous visits, saw many would-be Irish bars but all with a bias for English teams. Tnx.
Hail Hail
Happy Birthday BT!!

HH- my theory, is as always their arrogance and belief they can do anything and get away with it to their benefit .
This is the remnants of a previous club that was allowed with state support to use religion as a discrimination ..
They are that arrogant
Which is why they ll be really sick today.
One of THEMS has been off my work for the last month. Only because he can’t face myself and fellow hoops.
He gave it out plenty and now can’t face it.

In theory …but they don’t pay tax :-))
Seriously you’re correct …one just needs to look at th FOI request made to the police to obtain evidence that they’re at it with their attendance figures
BT
50 yet ? :-))
This morning’s daily record. The biggest scandal and fall in Scottish sporting history and it only merits a side bar on page 1, half a column on page 7. Turn to the back and there are 5 pages about a 3rd division team getting pumped in the League cup. Contrast today’s publicity with the 3 page “Thugs & thieves” headline and spread from a few years ago. Dreadful paper.
gerry and Kev thanks
PF 46… as soal said samae age as waist size..
BT
I think I’ll be died before my age reaches my waist size
Thought I’d get that if before you did
Just wondering along the same lines as DeniaBhoy:
If Sevco are giving away tickets to artificially give a higher attendance at the game, bearing in mind that half the income is due to be given to ICT, were ICT consulted prior to the game?
Or are the Sevconians going to do the right thing and …
Hilarious that last line when I read it again…
….PFayr
77 is still young these days
Seemingly

He phoned me last night as i left the killers gig at the NEC

It sickens me that there’s no-one within the structure of our club with the b###’s to ban the DR !
No, they bring out the pea-shooter and train it on – Hugh Keevins ?
And, that has achieved what ?
I think it’s an exercise in futility for fans to carry out bhoycotts against this paper when, our club adertises it ?
As for the DR’s rival – the S#n….Celtic should have banned them when, chief sports writer
Bill Leckie claimed that – “Celtic fans ‘coughed’ their way through the ibrokes disaster mins silence !?!?!?” imo

I shudder to think what would have happened if Big Jock had not returned in 1965! We would not have won the big cup – of that I am sure.
Before accepting the Celtic job big Jock was, I believe, approached by a Scottish journo and sounded out for the Wolves job. When Bob Kelly heard this he offered him the job.
If he had gone to Wolves they might have become the first British club to win the big cup!
As for Murray and that other lot – hell bloody mend them!
Rot in hell!
Apologies to all the saints!
HH!!

T, I hear what you say and yes, it will be all posturing and maneouvering to suit their argument and no doubt they’ll be backed by some of their msm loyal. I think there’s a degree of utter disbelief that it has finally come to pass and its understandable that some of us still regard them as the same entity, especially when we dont get banner headlines telling us different. Just remember, if it was CFC the msm would be leaving everyone in no doubt whatsoever that the club, history and all, was put to sleep yesterday.
Maybe its too simplistic to suggest that the timeline ended on October 31, 2012 and thats enough. But they will officially adopt a new name soon, just as Airdrie did. According to the record books, any honours they won are from 2003 onwards. There is still an Airdrie FC website which quite rightly informs fans never to forget the history of the club that folded in 2002.
Now someone can tell me the difference between the RFC and Airdrie situations.

They will not have more tax to pay. If you sell something, ie match tickets, for £0.00 (pics seen on here many times), there is zero tax to pay.
