2012 all over again as clubs ponder

208

It feels like 2012 all over again. Supporters of all clubs and Celtic (of yes they were) on one side, the SPFL (SPL), SFA and directors of other clubs opposing. Back then, the issue was whether SPL accession rules should be changed to allow an applicant football club, then known as Sevco Scotland, to be invited into the top flight of Scottish football.

The proposal was eventually rejected 10-1, with Rangers voting in favour of allowing the applicant and Kilmarnock abstaining, but that result wasn’t always likely. For months the league debated this issue and Celtic stood alone. It wasn’t until fans made their wishes known that others had an epiphany: good governance is important.

The official line from the SFA can be parsed as: those who are up to their necks in this scandal have absolutely no appetite to discuss it anymore, and a solicitor has told us this is OK.

Where are you Aberdeen, Dundee United, Dundee, Hibs, Hearts, Motherwell, Partick Thistle, Queen of the South, St Johnstone? Do not for a minute think they are all waiting on guidance from the SPFL – they’re not.

Right now, clubs across Scotland are asking themselves what to do about the most serious cheating in Scottish football history. It would be wrong to characterise all of them as wanting to protect those they have mixed with for decades. Some have reacted like this, others just don’t know what to do.

It is the job of their fans to shine a light on the road ahead.

Oh and I forgot to add

As night follow follows day the myth supporters will wail and stamp their feet ,they will probably partake of a march or two .

Who cares ,spoiled brats have to learn at some point that ,they cannot get everything their own way forever.

Looks like the gloves are well and truly off and the lines are being drawn. There is no way this saga can now be allowed to simply become tomorrow’s chip paper.

It will take a well funded, skilled legal brain, armed with a considered strategy and suitably supplied with all the relevant documentary ammunition that can be gleaned, to bring this to its inevitable denouement in the courts of the land.

Once and for all the Scottish Football Establishment must be called to account or we may as well just pack up and let the festering swamp get on with it.

  3. Never was a name so richly deserved as “The Lying King”. They are running scared.

  4. If we issue a statement everytime that clown does we will be doing two things….that of giving him legitimacy and of taking our own eye of the ball. Guy is an absolute crackpot and ties himself in knots every time he opens his mouth.

Dave King doing his usual, releasing a statement on a Friday last thing leaving it to sink in with the gullibles whilst nobody has a chance to respond. This statement is a good wee squirrel for him after the shambles that was Tuesday evening. Clearly he wants to make this an ‘Old Firm’ thing. We need to box clever. I don’t think we should respond directly to his statement as that is what he wants. In a way I’m glad he has spoken out as it will harden attitudes and should focus minds at Celtic Park whilst it also keeps the story in the public domain. My worry is that King knows the deals have been done behind the scenes to protect the tainted trophies and he is lapping up the opportunity to claim this as a big win.

What has ,Celtic fc asking for a review of cheating got to do with TGSL

He can’t speak without mentioning Celtic.

It’s like those hell-hole burger places that sell lumps of grease in a mouldy bun with a few cockroaches in between and they have a sign outside saying “we sell Coca Cola”.

  7. To Chris and Helen , by now you will be officially husband and wife.

Many congratulations to a wonderful couple.

    Hail Hail the Hamiltontims !!

  8. Just read the statement from the Glib one . FFS !

If every player would have still been signed , whether the tax scheme was there or not ,then why use the tax scheme ? For a laugh ?

Why hide and deny the existence of side letters ? What about his responsibility for share holders in his post as a non executive director ?

King must think everyone else in this country is as thick as that mob .

Kings mental health is questionable . He’s bonkers .

the way king is rambling i think there would be a lot of trouble in scotland if it was just celtic.

    Totally agree.

There’s nothing he would like more than a spat with us to try and re-develop the “old firm” guff.

He is chairman of Sevco. Celtic’s issues are with the football authorities due to the mis-registration of players by Rangers.

  11. Congrats to the newlyweds. Haven’t met either of them but judging by the comments from those that have they are perfectly suited and will have a long and happy marriage. God bless them both on their special day.

  12. So it would appear the gloves are off.

King’s ridiculous rant tells me he is panicking and wants to rally the knuckledraggers into their usual position. Threats and intimidation.

I don’t expect Celtic to address him directly.

Our next move should be directed at the authorities.

    We should ignore King.

    The man is a fool

  13. I am delighted with kings statement (which of course contradicts his previous warblings on this matter). I am particularly delighted he mentioned Celtic.

This leaves our board with no choice but to pursue this matter and thrusts the issue back into the spotlight.

Celtic shouldn’t respond to kings nonsense but this should now harden their stance and make them determined to strip the titles.

Otherwise we will see the Celtic board as cowards. Yes?

  14. NA2

So you are not currently dumping on Mags McGill’s face then :-)

Stripping titles shouldn’t be the issue, that should be the consequence of their improper registration of players over a decade, they broke the rules, simples.

    HH

  15. TET

That’s exactly why Clarence put us and title stripping together, it’s a squirrel to avoid the fact that the titles will be rescinded as a natural consequence of their cheating just like our old chum Lance in cycling

  16. STV News saying Celtic had sought title stripping (or words to that effect).

I don’t recall that ever being part of Celtic’s statement but it is an attempt to make this a Celtic v Rangers issue and not a governance one.

I’m sure Celtic will not fall for it because all through Res12 it has been a tactic Celtic and requistioners were well aware of.

You know the length that the SFA and media are going to in order to stop an investigation suggests to me its not to prevent title stripping but to prevent uncovering just how much the SFA and RFC/TRFC have been and are working hand in hand to one agenda – Save Rangers/

I have been saying for long enough that the illegal-improper registration of the players is what it’s all about, been saying it for yonks, thankfully the glibby has just destroyed any credibility they had with that imbecilic rant.

A decent QC armed with the Supreme Court decision, the Craig Whyte case testimony, Company and Insolvency Law plus all the relevant UEFA, SFA and SPFL statutes and regulations, would demolish SFA and TRFC in court.

I suspect both the SFA and TRFC know that, which is why they are closing ranks, muddying the waters and using their ‘network’ to ensure nobody goes ‘off message’.

BTW, over 26,000 have taken part in a Scotsman Poll and (at the time of writing) 69 per cent are in favour for Rangers losing their ‘EBT titles’ against 31 per cent who think they should keep them. Improvement for them as they are only 38 points behind …

  22. This had me laughing in contempt from the DK statement.

“they (Celtic) have attempted to influence the footballing authorities to alter its historic football honours by calling on administrators and lawyers to achieve off the pitch what its teams failed to do on the pitch.”

Only by robbing the tax payer Mr King. If you could have fielded a clean team, why didn’t you?

He is suggesting SDM used ebts to save MIH money which is not the motivation SDM declared to the FTT or in court at CW trial. So who to believe a man under oath or a glib and shameless liar.

The Exiled Tim, yes the liar , liar pants on fire chairman of Sevco has not mentioned the improper registration of players , which is what it all boils down to from a football stance. The only thing I liked in King’s statement was his pop at Murray . Apart from that it was total bunkum and balderdash.

I would also like to know if any accounts provided to the SFA actually showed the total payments made into trust funds and if any questions were asked by the SFA of what these trust funds were for. No doubt Christie and Dickson had input stating there was nothing to worry about .

I would also like it looked into what he of Smith must score infamy got up to while SFA CEO which benefitted one club only.

I worked with a hun who called himself a hun who was very unhappy when hs club wrnt into administration then liquidation.

I tried to explain to him why the EBT payments were the biggest problem. He ept on saying they were in the accounts. It took we six weeks to get through to him , it was the way EBT’s were administered was what was wrong. He reluctantly accepted this but was still seething at the injstices placed on his club ?????

First of all, I popped out to Cumbernauld this afternoon to wish HT & Minx all the best. She looked smashing and radiant, and the bhoy doesn’t have scrub up well in the Tartan Skirt and related Jacket.

It was a brief visit as I couldn’t stay, but I saw some well-known CQN’ers there and was delighted to see Lionsroar67 looking so well.

Anyway, a thought struck me during my brief visit.

What a nice set of people. Decent people. Good people. People whose company I enjoy and people who have integrity and decency running through them in buckets.

There are many who post on CQN who are like that.

I felt it is just something that should be said.

I hope they all have a good night, especially Mr & Mrs Haminxton Tim!

Re the Glib and Shameless liar not only does he contradict himself but others such as Alex Rae said that the EBT payments helped (at least) to persuade him to sign for Rangers.

But consider this, for it has not been mentioned by the Glib one.

When he says that the EBT’s did not benefit Rangers, had the very same club had to pay the proper tax on their wage bill their bank account would have been at least £47 Million worse off.

In 2005, HBOS insisted that Rangers reduce their bank liability, and they insisted that Murray guarantee the share issue of that year. The share issue failed and Murray, via the same bank, had to stump up £60 Million to cover the shortfall at that time.

So, if Rangers had lost a further £47 Million would the bank have extended further facilities?

No, the bank would have refused.

By 2008, even fat Jabba was writing that the HBOS were tightening their belt as far as football clubs went.

Also, during the same period, Rangers FC had to be able to satisfy the SFA that they had a business plan which would see them have enough money to meet all their liabilities for the year. Could they have done that with an extra £47m of debt?

Dunno because they never declared they had any such debt!

To say that Murray was the only one who benefited is so clearly arent nonsense that is laughable.

Here is hoping that he makes another statement soon.
