20th century football rivalries won’t survive

1358

I remember the days (as a kid) when I’d get excited about Scotland-England games. At the time the countries were neck-and-neck in the number of wins each had over the other, we knew we’d punched well above our weight for a century. Since then, the inevitable verdict of demographics has taken its toll.

Now we know we’re a small nation, inconsequential to the football world, and we’ve even starved of developmental resources compared to the riches that ploughs into the English FA from Premier League TV deals each season.

The historical rivalry remains but I don’t feel it anymore and surely English fans care even less. They will have to dig deep to muster anything more than an interest in the three points available tonight, having long since moved onto Argentina and Germany for their rivalry. And Iceland, of course (forgive me).

Great sporting rivalries can endure for generations but that doesn’t mean they’ll last forever. Circumstances can change causing both sides to lose interest and find others to do battle with. None of our 20th century rivalries will survive. If we could bloody the nose of Barcelona for a third time in the 21st century later this month, our hit rate would place the Catalans in the crosshairs.  Bring it on.

    An teach..,

I must admit I believe shareholder leer business should be conducted through the company secretary as opposed to any supporter liaison, so if you are a shareholder wishing to make a point about club business you should correspond with the company secretary, I would recommend all shareholders use this route. The problem is that for whatever reason the Plc make it difficult to obtain contact details for club business contacts.

Good memory of the woman behind the hot food counter in a Siracusa bar responding to a very fat American’s request for lasagna with chips -thus – con o senza zucchero , Signore ?

  3. To clarify. JPT has been named as point of contact by E mail because it is in public domain.

Written correspondence can go to The Company Secretary.

TD67 might be grumpy at times but he does have a sense of humour.

I heard Stanley Baxter nipped intae the Brazen Heid and one night and shouted “WhaurZitoniDonnelly? Ah owe him a pint!”

TBH I’ve never seen TD67 grumpy. I enjoy the bantz. :-)))

    Aildheid,

Regardless of being in the public domain, shareholders should contact the company secretary as JPT is not responsible for shareholders information requests, this is an excellent point raised that I witch had been raised before. The company secretary is the responsible party to deal with shareholders enquieries.

Thanks for response. Irish for “lighthouse”. When a nipper I was blessed enough to be able to leap pretty high to catch/head a ball in the air. Only memories now.

Just want to make sure that our custodians do not attempt a Houdini act but have to take the, IMHO, the moral course of action. HH

Did he say it in a Canadian accent?

    Naw?

    Wonder why…

  9. It seems a bit of coincidence that the DR are targeting Regan and football performance as a reason for him to go.

Is that the more acceptable route than he has been dishonest on matters of governance?

At the end of the day does it matter if we get better governance?

Thanks for responses. I suggest that concerned shareholders both e-mail John Paul Taylor and send hard copy, 1st class to Michael Nicholson.

Hope we can get a favourable response – perhaps a Private Session with the lamb-munchers excluded. Hail, hail

JP too busy tweeting about seating arrangements in Manchester to deal with agm matters…

  12. Lots of mentions of the excellent programme ” The Night of……”

Great charitable deed regarding ” The Sleepover”.

Combine both and we have the makings of a TV drama ?

” THE NIGHT of The GREAT SLEEPOVER” ?

    No ?….okay then.

They should but if they want to do it by E mail then it has to be JPT.

JPT was at the meetings. He is not going to sit on E mails and not pass them on.

I’m sure he pushes e mails to him on other matters all around Celtic.

If The Company Secretary had wanted his e mail address to be known to the public then it could have been used but he clearly does not so JPT is next best.

    Auldheid,

Paying him off for not improving football standards is completely different to malfeasance I expect the current strategy is his hand shake for doing the dirty work

There we have a true outlook on what this farce is all about.

Incidentally,my youngest lad was speeaking to James McClean a couple of weeks ago and he said he was indebted to the Celtic fans who had supported his stance through the years.

Delighted for him that his goals for Ireland lately have given them a great chance for World Cup qualification.

    Well done James.

JPT has no authority to respond. It is company business, so he just forwards the e mails to Company Secretary.

It looks a bit like it but the DR are actually talking about how unprofessional they are.

Do you remember who used that term about the SFA to us?

Maybe I’m joining dots but they must have known that one day the provenance veils would fall and there would be a reckoning.

    Cheers Auldheid

Maybe he just forwarded the emails then but how are we to know as he didn’t acknowledge my email

I’m sure he had a few hundred to deal with as he was on leave last week

  19. BT

I don’t know what system JPT uses but I did cost him some Help Desk software a while back.

Perhaps now Celtic can afford it. :)

  20. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Auldheid,

That’s no quite true, JPT has no business dealing with shareholders information requests, he is the supporters liaison, the company secretary is the shareholders liaison, that is the standard business communication path. That the Plc make it difficult for shareholders to contact the company secretary is part of the problem. By difficult I refer to expense and time required to enter correspondence.
