CHARLIE’S BACK

CHARLIE MULGREW is in line to make a surprise comeback for Celtic against East Kilbride in the Scottish Cup at Airdrie’s Shyberry Staium this afternoon.

And the versatile 29-year-old defender/midfielder hopes to do enough to prove he is worth a new deal at the Hoops.

The Scotland international has been missing for the best part of six months with a thigh injury, but is now fully fit after coming through an Under-20s game last week.

He made a cameo substitute’s appearance in the 2-1 Europa League defeat against Ajax at Parkhead in November, but had to quit the field with two minutes still remaining leaving the team with only 10 men.

However, Ronny Deila believes he is ready to return and has named him in today’s squad for the intriguing confrontation with East Kilbride.

But the Parkhead boss admitted he is in the dark concerning a contract extension for the player who is in his second spell at the club.

The Norwegian said: “I don’t know exactly what is happening regarding a new deal for Charlie.

“We spoke to him before, but he has been injured. He needs to get a run of games so we feel he is kicking on again.”
