Lessons to learn for tonight

210

While I want a win, or a clean sheet, what I would really like to see is evidence of what we have learned since Anderlecht ran through us in Glasgow two months ago. We have a genuine chance to eliminate a stronger opponent and reach the last 16 of the Europa League, but merely hoping the same strategy that was so overwhelmingly ineffective at home to PSG, Bayern and Anderlecht, will work better this time, is not going to cut it.

Let’s keep it tight until late in the game, when Zenit’s energy levels will be stretched. I also think we get more out of Forrest, Sinclair and Dembele with space to exploit in the forward third. I know we are unpractised at this, but, all going well, we will face far stronger opponents in September, when a polished rear-guard action will definitely be needed.

Today’s lesson: how to defend against skillful opponents.

I looked back for `it seems`. Couldn`t find it . Did you mean `apparently` planted the seed of doubt?

Your team info is usually correct. So Lustig is/was not injured?

  2. to be honest bhoys, if all our players were fit ,i wouldnt have played jozo tonight, think his confidence is low, and i would definately have had gamboa before lustig.only my opinion.hh.

  3. I’d like to see a performance tonight, heck, even Ronny’s team managed it v Inter a few years back, so why not this team? We need to go for it, and hopefully, the players respond to the backing ifrom the stands for once and deliver some Euro home cheer.

    3-1 Celtic.

    Hot Smoked

    Could go several different ways:

4-5-1 with Forrest wide right and McGregor wide left.

4-4-2 with a diamond or box midfield and Forrest up front with Dembele.

3-5-1-1 with Forrest and Tierney wide.

I’d guess 4-5-1 without the ball and 4-4-2 with.

Yes both ex Brigade, talking about a picture doing the rounds from 1989, he certainly knew what line you took in your career in the service..

    I agree there many possibilities.

Wasn`t life so much more simple when No 6 was left half and full-backs had to ask for directions if they the halfway line?

    I’ll accept any outcome tonight.

This is early in the BR journey to fully develop the project.

I’m not a happy clapper – in fact I’d lay Claines to being One of Lawwell’s keenest detractors ( when he let’s self interest take over).

So in defence of Lawwell’s and Board I’m full of praise for their efforts and decisions since BR arrived.

We have been unlucky with injuries. We might have forseen this with better Jan investment but I don’t believe our war chest would buy players who would alter our course.

Our course is domestic domination and progressing a team for future European ventures.

Tonight is part of our journey. Enjoy!

    Dembele Griffiths

  13. Right. The Hot Smoked Express is departing a Sunny Arbroath on its way to The Dear Green Place.

I don`t expect us to lose tonight. 0-0 would not surprise me but Dembele might have something to say about that.

    Cheerio for now,

Unleash the Dogs of War tonight then. Broonie and Kouassi for plenty ‘bite’ in midfield.

  18. Celtic have come out on top in their last three meetings with Russian teams in CHAMPIONS LEAGUE and despite the plethora of injuries at least this can give us some hope. Pity we are missing a player like Leigh Griffiths who goes for the jugular. We live in hope.

  20. I noticed PSG had a fully fit squad on the park last night yet Celtic have all these injury problems. Is it just bad luck or something else.

  21. Hankray

PSG don’t play against hammer throwers

I see the portugese hoops are 3-1 up in astana

  22. Watching Astana v Sporting, hope our scouts are still keeping tabs on Patrick Twumasi (he scored 2 v us and gave KT a torrid time in second half over there). Having a great game (despite Astana losing), lightening fast, great crosser and passer of the ball and powerful. Playing on the right but also coming into the middle. Has scored 9 goals in 12 games in Europe so far this season.

  23. Gene…………..maybe so but I’m pretty sure their skillful players get some rough treatment. Well played Portuguese Hoops.

BREAKING: Alex McLeish is closing in on the Scotland job. He’s set to be announced as the new national team manager before the weekend.

Turn off the light, close the door and lock it. The national team is finished.
