£5.2m NAWROCKI: CELTIC v GALATASARAY

1

CELTIC are locked in a £5.2million transfer tug-of-war with Turkish giants Galatasaray for Polish centre-back Maik Nawrocki.

The Hoops have made their move for the 22-year-old Legia Warsaw star in a bid to strengthen their central defence, as CQN reported yesterday.

Original fees of around the £4million mark have been dwarfed as the figure has climbed with add-ons, as claimed in Transfery.info that included “all bonuses, amounts to up to six million euros [£5.2m].”

ON THE BALL…Celtic target Maik Nawrocki.

The Hoops bought Legia’s Croatian right-back Josip Juranovic for £2.5million in August 2021 and the Polish outfit received a substantial sell-on fee when the World Cup ace switch to Bundesliga club Union Berlin in January.

The champions and the Poles have a good relatioship and the Hoops provided the opposition in the testimonial match for Artur Boruc, the goalkeeping hero of both clubs, a year ago yesterday.

It now looks like a straight fight between Celtic and Galatasaray for German-born former Polish Under-21 international Nawrocki.

Legia, runners-up in the Ekstraklasa last season, kick off their league campaign tonight with a game against LKS Lodz in the Polish capital.

At this stage in transfer negotiations, there is every likelihood the towering stopper will not feature.
