5 games in December, 5 poor results to avenge

833

Celtic have five games still to play this month against teams they have recorded two draws, three defeats and no wins against this season.  Hearts and Rangers conformably recorded home wins against Celtic while St Johnstone won at Celtic Park.  Udinese were fortunate to escape Glasgow with a point thanks to a late penalty, while Kilmarnock demonstrated their unpredictability by taking, then losing, a three goal lead.

There was a bit of optimistic chat over the weekend that three of our next four league games are at home but these are the teams we need to beat to win the league.  If Celtic come through this month unscathed in domestic football they will win the league, but despite current good form, this will be a huge challenge, starting against Hearts at 15:00 on Saturday.

Aye it was a misplaced clearance, but he could do the same 100 times again and the hun would never score.

Lenny wanted him so he will be in the team, it depends on the hun I believe, on how much we spend, and there are quite a few we need rid of, but a CB minimun is what I hope for.

Apart from that I see very little coming in, we have a Sweedish Internationalist as well coming in, so a good start imo, the bhoy looks the biz from what I have seen of him.

Daily Record Editor Bruce Waddell has been sacked.

Rangers PR goon Jack Irvine ain’t happy. The twit tweeted: “A big man smothered by PR midgets.”

In fact, Waddell spent holidays at Murray’s villa and kow-towed to PR midgets.

He also led the Record into second place behind the Scottish Sun and blithely oversaw the destruction of the Sunday Mail as a credible newspaper.

Thought my memory was fading or that some of the names were after my time. Was wee Matt ( Bryson) still there in your time? He and Wee Doc ( Docherty) taught me English and a jolly good job they did of it.

Was it St Patrick’s Bhoy that mentioned Burns the Science teacher? If it’s the one I remember I’ve long blamed him for my dropping Science and taking languages. Petrified of him I was.

Jack Gilroy of course took the school team. In my last two years we had Solly O’ Hare Stevie Murray and Brian Divers John’s young brother – my best memory of course being a 7-1 win over Dumbarton Academy away. We stopped there as the memory was too sweet to spoil with another goal!

Caught up with your conversation with ElDiegoBhoy this morning. Brought back a few memories. Was there till 1963. Is that before your time?

    I was there from 61 to 67

There was some kind of an ecumenical joint schools dinner and disco after exams time in 67. It took place in a Renton/Vale hostelry whose name eludes me. It was soon after Celtic won the European cup. The lads from the other side did not take kindly to the St Pats bhoys taking the chance to celebrate Lisbon. The dinner ended up with a pitched battle, the polis being callled and the disco being abandoned. Happy days

I am delighted to see big dan coming into form, with the signing of Lustig we now have half of the current Swedish back four headed for the Euro finals 2012 and also as we head into the second half of a toughSPl season no doubt played on some appalling surfaces as the weather deteriorates.

They both played and won against a strong dutch team recently with a front three of Kuyt,Huntelaar and Van Persie,we also have big vic looking comfortable in there too alongwith Charlie Mulgrew coming back.

I think what is needed is a more settled back four and with Izzy coming back too we are looking stronger across the back four, lets not panic just yet,a lot more positives than negatives for me HH

Coincidentally I was talking to a guy in work today about Solly O’Hare who was a schoolmate. I worked with his dad in the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria. Wasn’t Solly a teammate of MON at Notts Forest?

Stevie Murray was a player I loved. Think he made his debut for Celtic in Jack Charlton’s testimonial at Leeds when Jinky stole the show. Think we won 4-3 and the game was a few days after we lost a Cup Final to Aberdeen.

    From Irish News today

O’Neill grew up a Sunderland fan in Kilrea due to his admiration of Cork born great Charlie Hurley.

”You were either Rangers or Celtic in terms of the religious divide, but most of the boys took an English team too.” He said.

“Much to the laughing of one or two who took Manchester United and teams like that, I took Sunderland with Charlie Hurley being there.”

was somewhat taken aback by the picture used to display neil’s jubilation at yesterday’s win. suppose i shouldn’t have been but there you go. it’s still on show by the way if you haven’t seen it

have never complained before but decided to take a stand and penned the following as a formal complaint to the BBC.

we’ll see what the response is.

after continued poor representation of neil lennon on bbc sport scotland website, I feel i must submit a formal complaint. today’s photograph with tag line of ‘lennon thrilled with tannadice win’ does not as you might expect show a picture of him thrilled, jubillant or even just smiling but instead resorts to the tired old cliche of a ‘snarling’ neil lennon.

In the light of a number of physical assaults he has been subjected to in scotland along with the well publicised parcel bombs being sent through the post, I would expect that the BBC would at least try to show some leadership within the scottish media and attemp to portray him in a fair and well balanced manner.

this could start with using appropriate photographs on your website. I would like to know who chooses the photographs for the bbc sport scotland website and their justification for using the photograph on todays home page.

I remember Big Jake sending us out for a cross country run. The snow was on the ground, it was bloody freezing as well and we were in our tee shirts and shorts. We had to go down past Clerkhill girls school (where we hoped to see some of our fancies as we passed) and then past Bruce’s Cave to Havoc and the riverside. We then headed towards Dumbarton and returned passing the private school (for farmers boys I think), past Dalreoch station and uphill to St Pats. BigJjake’s first words when we got back? Eddie Smith must be raging.

    The UEFA reporting was round 1 – which he is about to be knocked out in;

    The SPL reporting was round 2;

The Scottish Premier League will take no action against Celtic after looking into reports of pro-IRA chants.

Having quizzed representatives from the police and the club, the SPL found that Celtic “took all reasonably practicable steps” to prevent the behaviour.

“It is not disputed that a small number of Celtic fans engaged in singing and chanting in support of the IRA,” read a statement from the SPL.

“Such behaviour is unacceptable and unwelcome at SPL matches.”

Police match commander Eddie Smith had reported the offensive singing following Celtic’s home match against Hibernian on 29 October.

The SPL say their investigation included “meetings with the Head of Operations at Celtic FC; the Divisional Commander (Chief Superintendent), Strathclyde Police E Division; the Match Commander (Superintendent), Strathclyde Police on the day of the fixture and the Head of the Football Co-ordination Unit Scotland (Superintendent), Strathclyde Police.”

Adding that: “Written statements were also received from the Safety Officer, Celtic FC and from the Steward Supervisor, Celtic FC responsible for the relevant section of Celtic Park.”

The SPL also say that repeated condemnation of such behaviour from manager Neil Lennon and chief executive Peter Lawwell was taken into consideration.

The statement concluded: “The ongoing work amongst the club, supporters and police to ensure that any unacceptable conduct is eradicated from Celtic Park is noted and is welcomed.”

On 8 December, there will be a Uefa hearing on a similar accusation surrounding Celtic’s Europa League home game against Rennes on 3 November.

I noticed the inappropriate photo also. Good on you for writing in to draw attention to it. The demonisation of Neil continues as he represents everything they hate. As has been commented on by others, the hatred of Irish and Catholics is normalised in Scotland. So, who knows – perhaps they are simply unaware of what they do. But they would never think of doing it with Smith or even McCoist.

  26. Br\o/gan R\o/gan Trevin\o/ and H\o/gan on

    Good Evening,

all this talk of Sunderland FC set me a thinking and the old agitated brain working backwards. For some reasons things just seem to stick in my twisted wee mind. For example, how many people have seen the movie ” Scent of a woman”? with that great performance by Al Pacino? The Tango scene sticks in the mind, as does the Ferrari driving, but so does the scene on the plane where he eulogises about a Mr John B Daniels– with reference to Jack Daniels!

Of course, there never was anyone called John B Daniels. With respect to the creator of “Old No 7” his name was Jasper Newton Daniel and he literally kicked the bucket in 1911. In actual fact he kicked his own safe when he couldn’t open it to count his money, and as a result he got an infected toe– and the infection subsequently killed him!!

Equally obscure is that fact that it was on this day–5th December 1791– when Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart died. Despite first appearing at the Habsburg court in Vienna at the age of 6 and going on a European tour at the age of 7, Mozart was a complete pauper when he died at the age of 35. He was so poor that he was thrown in a Paupers grave with only the gravediggers present!

Alexandre Dumas was equally skint when he died on this date in 1870. Dumas was of mixed French and African ancestry and felt discriminated against throughout his life in so called cosmopolitan France. He also blew all his money on lavish living and women— but hey it is a free world.

Now all of this has nothing to do with Sunderland FC. However what has always stuck in my mind about Sunderland is a great unanswered question– and it is this. Why?– Why did he play for them?

The player I am speaking about was once described by no less a personage than Don Revie as one of the most exciting players in the English league!!! He gained an international cap against Sweden in 1975 ( if I remember correctly this was the same game where Ronnie Glavin gained his only cap too ), and he dawned the Sunderland colours 304 times scoring 79 goals including the header against Arsenal which took his team to the FA Cup Final– and it was his cross that was eventually converted by Ian Porterfield for the winning goal. He later went on to play for Derby and Leicester.

But why did he play for Sunderland? Why did he never play for Celtic?

Sure he came from Coatbridge and went to Roker straight from school and he was a Celtic fan– so why did he play for Sunderland and not us?

I don’t know the answer to the question as it would appear he was good enough.

His name? Billy Hughes brother of Yogi.

Strangely, Big Yogi also played one solitary game for Sunderland against Millwall in January 1973 after a £35,000 transfer from Crystal Palace. Unfortunately it was Yogi’s last game, as he was injured after 15 minutes and that brought his career to an end.

I have no idea where Billy is now or what he does– but I always wondered why he never appeared in the hoops?

Jake Dennick Now there was a man. In my earliest stages of puberty I was plagued with boils on my back and Jake for some reason best known to himself decided to give me a hearty slap on the back. Result a great deal of pain followed by an inquisition at home by my mother tale relayed to my dad then a quiet close after a pint in the Elephant and Castle and a meeting between Jake and my Dad which led to a whole new relationship between me and Jake.

Aye Solly played with MON at Forest and still lives in the area not that I’ve come across him but a mate in Nottingham has. He doesn’t remember me but obviously he does Stevie. They both made their debuts for Scotland against Belgium under Tommy Docherty who did say that until training he didn’t realise how good a player Stevie was. Stevie later turned down the chance of going on tour with Scotland to Holland and Germany before the 1974 World Cup because he was studying for CA exams and because he said he wasn’t going just to keep Billy Bremner’s jersey warm.

It was Jack Gilroy who got him a trial with Dundee as Celtic weren’t interested at the time. Shows you how much I know as I told him to get real or whatever was the equivalent in those days as I just didn’t expect someone I’d grown up with to have the ability to play for our heroes. How wrong I was though with Pat Crerand and later Bobby Murdoch around it was probably the best thing for him at the time. Really glad he got the chance in the end and just a pity he had to finish so soon. Stevie’s my cousin and we lived one street away in Bellsmyre so naturally we saw a lot of each other growing up. For my sins when anyone picked sides for a game I was always 2nd pick naturally so guess who had to do a lot of chasing!
