5 weeks ahead will define our season

230

In the next five weeks we play seven away games and only two at home (Ross County and Hearts).  If we beat Partick Thistle on Saturday, a tenth game will happen during this timeframe, making the series either seven or eight away from home in 10 games.

Apart from the final games in the series, in Copenhagen, the others all have a must-win look to them.  Thistle are struggling for form at the moment, so are unlikely to pose much of a threat, but we have two games on plastic – Kilmarnock and Hamilton – as well as trips to Motherwell and Aberdeen.

This is an exceptional load by any standards.  Getting it right during this period will define our season.

The Missus was playing a 60’s CD today and that song was on it……that’s why it came to mind!

  2. Two and a half years and ten months for two morons that attacked a taxi driver, stabbing him, sliced his ear in two,and beat him senseless,in Glasgow.Really,?That’s justice.Guy can’t work again.

  3. Do we find out tomorrow how much Mike Ashley can invoice The Rangers?

And will that set in motion a fire sale over there?

And how do you offload players who are topping up their pensions with no re-sale value (Mr Defoe and more)?

What kind of person would stick around as manager if assurances he had sought regarding retaining his best players cannot be granted?

    (Cue theme tune to SOAP)

  4. Like to see Bayo go on loan to Hearts – would suit them and could take points from Ibrox. Think Griff’s number is up – he’s had fifteen months to shape up, maybe now time to ship out. Maybe a English Championship, League One side, may take a chance.

We could go with Eddy & Patryk – the boy Harper from reserves will breakthrough soon, he couldn’t be worse than recent makeshift strikers, Morgan & Johnston.

Front three of Jamsie, Patryk & Eddy whets the appetite. Bulid 343 around them.

  5. Yes D Day for Ibrox tomorrow – this is the quietest they’ve been in a transfer window for years….deathly quiet.

  6. SUPERSUTTON on 14TH JANUARY 2020 10:56 PM

    Its a ‘directions hearing’

‘A directions hearing is a brief hearing in front of a judge or commissioner. It is a chance for the judge or commissioner to discuss the progress of the appeal and give ‘directions’ to the parties. Matters requiring a directions hearing. Items to bring to the directions hearing.’

So probably no settlement tomorrow unless they they are going to ratify an out of court settlement that they have reached.

  7. glendalystonsils on

The Ibrox mob seem to be untouchable , surviving every off-field crisis while seeming to find money like they have a golden goose at the top of a beanstalk.

Maybe Ashley will turn out to be Jack the giant killer.

  8. The Huns owe MASH millions that they don’t have. MASH doesn’t want them bust, he wants to make money from them. My guess is MASH will use the compensation claim as leverage to negotiate a new deal from which he will make a lot of money. That deal will be sold to the people as another favourable settlement.

Our team us already extremely young. We look to be adding two more 21 year olds. It’s a lot of pressure to put on the shoulders of young boys. Talented as they are it gives me the fear.

The PLC are clearly willing to risk 9 in a row against potential future transfer income.

Set that against the huns spending every penny they have and more on seasoned pros.

    Hope the gamble pays iff.

  10. 4 more sleeps indeed good sir!

Tough week at work already thanks to my new tea party boss. Who claims Irish descent by the way but comes across as a record player stealer like our new manic poster on here and bhoy do I need some soccer (as they make me say here or they just think of Tom Brady) and the old Glasgow Derby on my screens.

  11. Wonder if the Ash verdict is already out there and it’s impacted

    the Celtic shareprice?

I’m quite happy as mine are not for sale.

Here’s another wee verse for The MERSEYS …SORROW

His hair is short and eyes of green

He plays for Celtic and he hates the queen

Spot on. Ashley is going to make his money for many years via a new deal with Ibrox so there will be no fire sale to pay him off.

Hummel may take legal action when Sevco do as the court ordered them and withdraw from their current deal with them for next season.

Regardless though they still have ten million to find to see out this season. It’s fairly obvious they’ll be scaling back very soon.

We win the league this season and they’ve nothing to come at us with for next season.

  14. James Gang

As you state- all of this is not factual but it is a mixture of objective position and subjective rhetoric, which is sometimes all we have, so I will reply and try to counter your points.

    1. They’ve been markedly the better team in several recent encounters.

    —————-

They were the better team in 2 encounters and they won one of them.

    2. They’ve shown themselves to be much better than the rest and are unlikely to drop many points.

    —————

They are now 13 points clear of the 3rd place team. Last year they finished 11 points clear of the 3rd placed team. When Aberdeen and Hearts and Well enjoyed spells as 2nd placed teams, they too achieved significant gaps between themselves and the 3rd placed team. “Unlikely to drop many points” is just guesswork- how many is “many”? By my reckoning one drawn game from them puts us back in charge of our destiny.

    3. The stakes are ‘life and death’ high for them and they and their establishment are acting accordingly.

The stakes have been high for them for most of the 21st century, as Celtic have won 14 of the 19 titles available, a spell of dominance unprecedented since the inter war years. Since we established our advantages it has always been life or death for them. They have chosen to repeat spending beyond their means because, for them , one in a row, is now the equivalent of a Euro final. If achieved it will neither make them financially nor break us financially. Their piper(s) will still have to be paid and the money they make from a title will not make a dent in what they owe. The only way it becomes significant, is if we have a melt down and tear our club apart.

That applies whether they (or some other team) stop us doing 9iar, 10iar, 11iar, 12iar or any number as the winning run WILL have an end; it always does. We could tear our club apart by ignoring the 8, 9, 10, 11 or x titles won and just take vengenace over the one lost, just as we did with WGS when he had won 3iar and lost the 4th.

As for the establishment treating us badly, there has always been an element of that and any objective evaluation, would not place this season (so far) in the top 10 of seasons where the establishment has conspired with Ibrox against us. The injustices suffered by our parents and grand parents generation, before cameras arrived, were far greater and we have seen nothing like the activities of the refs of the 60s or Rev. McCurry in recent years. Tony Mowbray suffered more than we have this season.

    4. We were till the arrival of Polish Paddy, one lunge on Eddie away from no strike force.

We had Edouard, Griffiths and Bayo at the start of the season and have since aquired Afolabi. Most of us were happy with that at the end of the last window. As it turned out, Griff has had a drastic loss of form and Bayo has not remained fit enough long enough to be evalluated as a player. We still have many days to see what transfer business will be done so I won’t be writing off anyone until we see what they can do in 2020. We should have learned this lesson long ago; there is no reliable group of 11, 14 or 18 players that stay in the team from Game 1 to Game 38. There are always players who emerge to claim places and depose old players. Provided Eddie is not sold, and Bayo does not succumb to another serious injury, we are already well enough covered. Who pray tell, is Sevco’s 3rd choice striker?

    5. Our manager’s till now inability to adapt his tactics.

Every one of our 8iar managers has had this criticism levelled at them. It has now become a footballing cliche, without any depth or meaning. Like “no Plan B”, “bizarre subs” and “only picks his favourites”. How the hell did this amateur bunch of players or managers manage our Europa group as well as they did, in combination with such tactical naivety and stubbornness?

    6. Our custodians tacit acceptance of the old firm business model, evidenced by their gutless approach to Res12

The Res. 12 issue is a telling criticism of our Board and CEO with which I am in agreement. It has, however, the square root of hee-haw to do with our current league position or our footballing prospects.

    —————————————

As I said, we have had sustained league challenges before and we have overcome them.

That is no guarantee that this one will end the same way. Equally it is no guarantee that it will not. We are all reading runes which tend to feed our own biases.

For me, every one of the last 8 leagues were won honestly. Every one of our 21st Century titles were won likewise. I will accept no hun narrative that says “it don’t count when we’re not around”. There may no longer be a Rangers but there will always be a club playing out of Ibrox, followed and favoured by the majority of Scotland, independent or Merged within the UK.

The risk of losing a league is ever there. Whenever we do manage to mess up, I will not be leading the bloodletting nor focussing on vengeance for depriving me of one lost league. I will take some time out to be grateful for and remember the X in a row, whether that X=8, 9, 10 or whatever.

And we will all still be Celtic supporters, whether Peter Lawell is there or not, whether NFL is there or not, whether Scott Brown or James Forrest is there or not. Our forefathers existed on a relative famine of trophy & title rewards to get us to the position of enjoying the dominance we have had.

It’s time we took a little joy in our club’s achievements.
