WINDBAG SHIELS BACK IN FOOTBALL

It was Shiels, of course, who provoked a storm of protest from Hoops fans when he dismissed Ronny Deila’s masterminding of a Premiership and League Cup double in his first season in Scotland.

Shiels, whose son Dean plays for an outfit from Govan, poured scorn on the achievement by saying: “I don’t think you can say Deila has been successful yet. My granny could have won the league with Celtic.

“Being honest, the Treble should be nailed on for Celtic. So, being champions is a no contest.”

That got the anticipated response from followers of the Parkhead outfit as well as a few neutrals.

Shiels, of course, has an excellent pedigree in management and that showed in his last role in the dug-out a year ago when his Morton team were decimated 10-2 by Hamilton Accies. He was sacked shortly afterwards.

The previous year, he was handed his P45 by Kilmarnock after the Rugby Park outfit had suffered their worst home record in more than 30 years.

Being charitable, he did lead the Ayrshire side to an unbelievable League Cup triumph over Neil Lennon’s Hoops in 2012. They got the only goal of the game six minutes from the end in an encounter practically dominated by Celtic. His luck ran out a year later with the first of a double sackings.

However, CQN Magazine can report that the know-it-all windbag is back in football management – with a club by the name of BEC Tero Sasana. Never heard of them? Understandable, as they perform in the soccer hotbed of…THAILAND!

Apparently, Shiels realised he had no future in the game here when a chairman informed his agent he wouldn’t get back into the game – because he was too adventurous in his outlook.

He gasped: “The chairman concerned told my agent I wasn’t being considered for the job as he felt my style of passing, entertaining football would not progress his club. That was the last straw for me.”

Now Thailand beckons for the 59-year-old who was obviously misunderstood in Scottish football. How will we survive without his pearls of wisdom? How long before he gets the axe for lighting up the Thai game?
