£5m CELT IN LIMBO

THE mystery over the missing £5million striker has been explained by Celtic stand-in boss John Kennedy.

Albian Ajeti, who arrived for big money from West Ham in the summer, didn’t make the 20-man squad stripped and ready for action in the 1-1 derby draw  at the weekend.

John Kennedy overlooked the Swiss international as he named Leigh Griffiths and Patryk Klimala as his preferred stand-by strikers against Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox visitors.

Ajeti, who has scored one meagre goal in 19 appearances since September, has yet to feature since Neil Lennon’s exit last month and has made only 12 starts all season, claiming a total of six strikes.

The 24-year-old misfiring hitman is in soccer limbo after failing to convince in any of his first-team outings and Kennedy, speaking to the Daily Record, said: “We had so many fit players and everyone wanted to be involved. Three strikers on the bench for the game wasn’t quite right.

“I spoke to Albian and addressed it, so there’s no drama. Every game is different. We needed a balance on the bench, but it’s fine.”

Ajeti has picked up 11 caps for Switzerland, but was snubbed from the World Cup qualifiers for the ties against Bulgaria and Lithuania and next week’s friendly clash with Finland.
