State aid advocates ready to help Rangers

588

Quite apart from this week’s admission by First Minister, Alex Salmond, that he has been arguing with HM Revenue and Customs to “for goodness sake get a settlement” with Rangers, I continue to receive reliable assurances that HMRC are coming under pressure from all political angles to effectively offer state aid to Rangers FC PLC (in administration).

In short, if HMRC acquiesce, Rangers will have their debt zeroed and will be out of administration with only their 10 point penalty to show for years of financial doping.

Fifa guidelines explicitly prevent governments from interfering in football.  State aid to any one club is about as explicit a contravention of Fifa rules as there can be.  This jeopardises the places of Scottish clubs in next season’s European competitions and could lead to the Scotland national team being banned from the World Cup qualifying group, due to start later this year.

It is the SFA’s job to insist that all state intervention in football stops immediately.  I urge you to write to the SFA chief executive, Stewart Regan, stewart.regan@scottishfa.co.uk and Uefa president, Michel Platini via his PA marion.haap@uefa.ch, asking them to take immediate action to stop all state interference in Scottish football.

Celtic have an excellent chance of Champions League football next season and we don’t want politicians of any colour getting Scottish teams banned from international competition.  The silence of the SFA on the subject, despite extensive media coverage, is very disconcerting.

It’s time for you to play your part in these important times.

  1. Are the people running Ticketus stupid? Have they effectively bought lots of season tickets that will never be sold if the huns go under? And did they not cover this possibility before sending the large cheque made out to Mr C Whyte or Wavetower/ whoever? Surely not.

If Rangers continues in its current incarnation, they get their money back over time as long as enough season tickets are sold.

    And if it doesn’t?

David Cameron, at Prime Ministers questions a couple of weeks ago, gave a response supporting Portsmouth FC. Portsmouth went into Administration today! Pretty sure there was no government spokesman at the High Court pleading on Pompey’s behalf. Cameron stressed the tax issue in his comments regarding Rangers in Scotland yesterday. Alex Salmond nailed his true colours to the mast with his support for Rangers, but what would you expect from a politician whose idea of Independence for Scotland means being ruled by the Crown and governed by the Bank of England. With the SNP in charge in Scotland! Only Rangers supporters support Rangers, nobody else does, and nobody else should.

  13. Dumb question alert but could someone fill me in….

Now obviously HMRC need Rangers to stay in business if they want their money back so a CVA is inevitable. Could someone please explain to me why Rangers don’t hold the cards here as liquidation would mean HMRC get nothing.

How much does anyone think HMRC will get of their monies owed to them?

  14. Bruce, why have you decided to come on here when your club are dying?

When they go, will you wish you had done something rather than trolling great Celtic websites?

And when they go bust Celtic will surpass their trophy haul you silly billy.

    TJ

  15. Come on then Bruce, explain why they will come back stronger, buying better players than ever before?

Whilst you’re typing, do try to remember that, from 1998 until now, they’ve received bailouts in excess of £140m as well as the additional revenues generated due to such bailouts.

  16. See if you were determined to have a business liquidated as well as racking up massive tax bills you would also make sure you destroyed future income so that even if a CVA could be miraculously agreed there would not be a viable business left at the end leaving administrators no choice but to liquidate.

    Just saying like….

HMRC will get about £8m all in from the liquidation.

    Rangers 1873 – 2012 = 139 years

    Celtic 1888 – present = 124 years

We will probably be adding 3 trophies to our total before the end of May. We have 15 years yet to catch up with The Mighty Rangers (in administration). I suspect we’ll be adding quite a few trebles to our tally in the forthcoming years which should help our cause. Bet you don’t like them apples. Statistics can be a bugger at times.

    Thanks in advance.

With public sector pensions being slashed because the country can’t apparently afford them any more, how can the Government justify waiving a tax bill of approx £84m?

  24. HMRC have said today they have ‘no regrets’ with regard to Portsmouth.

Seriously, does anyone think that lot’s collective troubles with HMRC are going to be swept away by HMRC? Slate wiped clean?

Wait for this to hit the fan at FIFA, UEFA, etc.

Nobody has commented as to whether Celtic are in a position to take direct legal action against THEM regarding loss of European income whilst operating ILLEGALY. We all want a ‘quick death’ but patience is required.
