Stop press: charade continues

1208

Prospective Rangers owners, Brian Kennedy and the Blue Knight (I refused to continue to pluralise a singularity) have submitted a joint bid for the club, which they consider to be “substantial”, which should mean it’s worth a lot more than the £11.2m Bill Miller spoke about last week.

The offer is conditional on a CVA being approved and Craig Whyte’s shares being acquired.  For a CVA to be put to the unsecured creditors, the secured creditor, Craig Whyte, would have to be satisfied first.

Whyte’s security as a creditor is valued (by him) in the order of £30m.  All proceeds from the sale of the club up to this value go to him unless he waves his rights or is subject to lengthy legal challenge.  Only money over and above this value will be available to the non-secured creditors, most importantly HMRC and Ticketus.

So, unless Kennedy and the Blue Knight have bid considerably north of £30m, we’re not talking pennies in the pound, we’re talking pennies in the £100m.  In the event a CVA is concluded, Ticketus own circa the first 25,000 tickets sold for each game for the next three years.

Apologies for repeating the same story now for ten weeks: Craig Whyte is the only show in town, he always has been.  Unless you agree to purchase his shares and security, any bid is a fantasy.  I think I can hear Mr Whyte laughing from here.  Perhaps they’ll now stop blaming Raith Rovers.

Apparently, the charade continues.

Nah, He forgot Partick thistle and QP though.

  2. U-19s play RFC(IA) at Lennoxtown this morning, no McGeough or Watt in the line up, means they must be in the frame for the 18 tomorrow.

Dylan McGeough was a stand out in the 8-0 demolition of QoS on Monday night-this bhoy IS the real deal.

  3. PFayr

cheers mate, I’ve been through all their transfers and the only one I can see possibly owing them money would be Liverpool/Aston Villa and I doubt that is the case.

The hun as a demographic was weaned onto toxic myth and crass innuendo before he was ever weaned off the Lanliq sterilised dummies.

  4. Morning bhoys and ghirls, warm on the hun free mountain range.

Surprised by that piece by Gibbons, surprised it got past the editor, but maybes the wind of change is in the air.

So the vote by the gang of 10 is on monday, what do we have.

For a start the TV deal is still unsingned, that is our strongest weapon.

The chairmem of these clubs are really no stupid, they may well be hun lovers, but they must know the feelings of their fans, and I think they will also know how bad the situation at the hun is, they will vote I believe with common sence.

If they don’t vote for integrity, they will have an even bigger threat and that will come from the Celtic support.

IF there is a hun team playing in scotland next season, what will it consist of, a bunch of has beens, they will be no threat to anyone, their loyal support who don’t do walking away will have walked, they must know this.

  5. I now understand how Brian Kennedy is such a successful business man..oops sorry my mistake got to use the word tycoon now he is bidding for the darkside.

U am going to buy a car this afternoon at the auction and I am mgoing to use his technique to ensure my success. If I am outbid I am going to go straight up to the seller and say hold on do not sell it to them but sell it to me because I will wash it and keep it spotless every week.

i will let you know how I get on…

  6. Monday’s vote. The identities of those voting will be no secret and it’s possible they won’t want to receive ‘silent phone calls’.

  7. It sums this country up when I feel I have to congratulate a journalist for doing his job and telling the truth. Well done Glen Gibbons.

I take it he doesn’t mind sitting by himself in the press box.

McCoist is a true represenatative of that club.

  8. An example of how loyal the hun are has just posted.

Instead of protesting with his hun mates, he is on a Celtic blog posting, that’s tru blue loyalty for ye.

I accept that, but we are talking about chairmen who are businessmen, and if supporters can work out that a rise of say 400 for each home game would well compensate for the lack of hun money, 400 ain’t much if your team were winning and had a chance of silverware and a chance of europe.

  11. I know it was marked during the night, but I wanted to add my own thoughts.

Today would have been Pablo’s 50th birthday. What a party that would have been – and on the last derby weekend too. Always had a sense of timing did our friend Steve.

It says so much for Pablo that he remains in so many people’s thoughts, and I am sure he would have told us to stop all this nonsense – or words to that effect! So wherever you happen to be today, raise a glass or a mug of something to his memory. He was a special man who did so much for others and expected nothing in return.

I and many of us on CQN lost a great friend. Shine on Stevie. Our first goal tomorrow is for you.

    What are they like ?????

The best bit was when all the blogs were telling them about CW being a chancer, they believed the billioair crap, then when he got caught, they bleated, and whined that nobody told them, it was magic.

Nothing better than a hurting hun :>)))

  13. It’s wrong to say the Huns are doing nothing for their “club”. McDonalds to close its global operationaccording to FF:

“Thanks McDonald’s, supporter of the SFA.

Used yer lavy, taking up a space in your car park and catching up on work e-mails.

    Cheers

  14. I hope it’s 5-2 tomorrow. I don’t like giving them two goals but it would round off our dealings with them if we mirror the score in our very first match against them.

    I hope the daytime crowd will indulge me by allowing me to re-post this from last night (I suspect the link at the end won’t work this time round);

I haven’t been able to get into CQN since last Thursday morning. I don’t just mean that I couldn’t log in or post – I literally couldn’t get the site to open. Thanks to Paul for putting things right today.

Going without CQN is a hardship at the best of times but given what happened to Steve over the weekend it’s been almost unbearable on this occasion. I was dependent on receiving updates on his condition via texts & e-mails & it was so frustrating not to be able to get on the blog – I felt very isolated. No doubt it’s stretching things to say that Steve’s condition & CQN’s unavailability were in any way connected – but that’s the way it felt to me.

Despite the bleak news coming through from Maastricht I always felt that Steve would pull though. He was such a tenacious wee so and so that I just couldn’t see him succumbing & I was deeply shocked when the news came through on Sunday that he had passed away. I haven’t had the time, or the heart, to read back yet.

Like many CQNers I first came across Steve when he was doing the late night music shift. I hadn’t had the pleasure of meeting him at that point but I used to kid him on regularly about his taste in music – although, to be honest, other than his twin obsessions with the Beatles & Radiohead, I couldn’t actually tell you what his tastes were. He seemed to be in to just about every genre going & just when you thought you had a handle on him he would come up with something totally out of left field (having said that, I don’t know if he was actually a fan of Leftfield). I suppose the best word to describe his taste is “catholic” although I can almost feel him looking over my shoulder as I type saying “make sure you spell catholic wi’ a wee ******* “c” ya ****“.

It’s not so long ago that he posted a link to Summer (The First Time) by Bobby Goldsboro & I slagged him rotten about it – he just shrugged in that Pablo way as if to say “so what?”. I never actually admitted to him that I’d already had it on my iPhone for ages. In retrospect, it strikes me now that he was totally without pretension – in everything, but particularly when it came to music. Unlike many of us (certainly myself at any rate) he didn’t care about musical trends or what might be regarded as cool or uncool. He just unashamedly liked what he liked & if it had some sort of emotional or nostalgic pull on him (like Sara, for example) then so much the better.

I remember he used to post overnight while he was working in Longannet (I think) when he was going though some difficult times in his personal life. I was quite taken aback by how open he was about it & I remember feeling quite uncomfortable reading this guy I’d never met laying himself bare on the blog. I e-mailed him to try & buck him up a wee bit – I was well intentioned enough but I don’t think I had anything particularly insightful to say. All the same, I think he appreciated the fact that I’d got in touch & we kept in contact after that.

Then, as many of you will know, I lost my 17 year old son Christopher in a knife attack in January 2008. The response from the entire CQN community was immense & needless to say Steve was one of the first to offer his support. The boot was on the other foot now & he was a constant source of solace & encouragement during what was a very difficult time.

I finally got to meet him one summer afternoon in 2008 in Babbity Bowsters. I’m not sure now what the reason for the get-together was – it was a week day during the close season – but I remember that Martin42, WDH, PFayr & Oldtim were there, among others. I wasn’t really sure what to expect from a guy who had seemed so…well…sensitive (but not in a gay way) during our e-mail correspondence but he certainly wasn’t anything like I had imagined him. We sat down over a few pints, he got through a few roll-ups & we got on like a house on fire.

Looking back, I reckon I was only ever in his company around a dozen or so times at most but he had a knack of making you feel as though he’d never been away.& you were just continuing the conversation you were having previously – it was as if he’d just popped out for a smoke. He had strong opinions & could be intense at times but just when you thought he was getting on his high horse you would catch a wee glint in his eye & realise that he was reeling you in. Gordon_J, DBBIA, SFTB & myself saw him off to Holland with a few drinks (on the opening night of the last World Cup, I think) & I saw him for the last time a few months ago in BBs after a game.

I’m sure it’s been said already but his weak spot was definitely his children & I don’t think I ever met him without him slipping Jonathan or Sara into the conversation at some point. If anyone can find the posts about his efforts to get the kids over to Cork for Christmas a couple of years ago it would be much appreciated – it was more heart warming than anything Hollywood could ever come up with.

One last thing before I close. Some of you will remember Paul67’s article here following the tragic death of Raemonn Gormley. Someone had made an anonymous donation of £1000 to Raemonn’s charity fund with the covering note “In memory of my good friend Dick Byrne” & I had asked Paul to include a message of my gratitude at this fantastic gesture in his article.

A couple of days later I got an email from “someone” confirming that he had donated the money. He had planned to keep quiet about it but was concerned that I might be annoyed at not knowing who it was, so he decided to come clean on condition that I keep his identity to myself. I have to confess now that I broke my promise & did tell a couple of people at the time but I don’t suppose there’s any harm in telling the rest of you now that it was Steve who donated the money.

It’s without a doubt the most generous gesture I’ve ever known but, now that he’s no longer here, I can honestly say that the best thing about it was being referred to as his “good friend”. It’s an absolute privilege to have been called that by Steve.

It’s too amusing that a ‘green eyed Celtic daftie’ could see through Craig Whyte months ago, when the Hillbillies and their journalistic buddies were still slavering over the size of the ‘warchest’.

    I blame Cafflick skools.

  24. So the Huns revenge starts today. They are going to walk to hampden and shout outside the front door. Brilliant strategy.
