May is not out, the manager is not formally in place yet, but there’s an early bit of transfer rumblings underway as Celtic begin the process of building a squad for an attack on The Nine.
In response to speculation linking Celtic to one of his players, Motherwell chief exec, Alan Burrows, wrote on Twitter, “figures in papers are often educated stabs and not a true reflection on either what one/any club might be prepared to pay or the other might be prepared to accept.”
In short, any inquiry from Celtic for David Turnbull is at an early stage and conversations will not be around the figures reported.
We have 93 days like this until the transfer window closes….
Like you, I enjoyed watching Patrick Roberts. He is a gifted player and good professional. His could have been a permanent signing for Celtic but Pep Guardiola had other ideas. Now he has signed a new contract, keeping him at at Manchester City for another three years, a club he will almost certainly never play competitively for, while simultaneously agreeing to a one year loan at newly promoted Norwich.
It is hard to escape agricultural metaphors when watching what the tier one clubs in England do with young talent. They are a crop to hoard and sell, not to consume. City paid Fulham £12m for Patrick four years ago. His new contract will be worth several millions per year, and when his value is right, they will sell him. This is a business model, independent of first team considerations.
A season in the English Premier League could be enough to raise a fee in excess of £20m, but there is a risk going to Norwich. Patrick’s talents are most valuable unlocking packed defences. Players of craft are less valued the further down the league you go, where robustness and counter-attacking football has become mandatory.
He would contribute his share in that Manchester City squad, or at Celtic, but his bit-part season at relegated Girona is a portent of what could lie ahead for him in Norwich. At least he’ll be able to catch the tunes on North Norfolk Digital.

Watched the whole series of Les Miserables – production with Dominic West as Jean Valjean.
Excellently done & worth every minute.
While I’m on that tack, we were over in UK recently & my sister & husband had never heard anything about the UK show “Unforgotten”.
First night there we started watching series One – they were hooked.
Fantastic production, script, cast, acting, directing – worth a watch if you haven;t seen it.
Bernard Hill, Tom Courtney, Nicola Walker, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Trevor Eve, Ruth Sheen, Cherie Lunghi, Tessa Peake Jones, Hannah Gordon, Frances Tomelty (wonderful acting), Gemma Jones (also scarily good acting)
Big Liverpool connection in Series One.
Sadly, I hear that the Americans are making a version called Suspects without Nicola Walker or Chris Lang who wrote the UK original.
Sure to be mangled & ruined.

If you’re referring to tonight’s penalty – I have to disagree.
Sissoko actually moved his outstretched arm back in towards where the ball was heading when he saw where it was going. I’m certain that he didn’t intend to hand ball but when all the circumstances are considered how is the ref supposed to make any other call. It had the appearance of a deliberate movement of arm towards the ball. I suspect he intended to block the ball with his chest but what followed was impossible to disentangle from intentional & accidental.
Every player will say that the handball was not deliberate so we can ignore what they say.
We are left to view all other factors to draw our conclusions.
His movement of arm in towards his body & towards the flight of the ball eventually led to his arm & wrist connecting with the ball & re-directing it away from danger.
It’s about as clear cut as you’ll see regardless of all the gormless comments from ex pros or commentators about it being soft, dubious or unfair.
If we had such a claim & it was denied we’d all be up in arms at the cabal of trouser rollers & nipple bearers who conspire against us.

Anyway showtime here – so I hope the list grows & grows.
Night all.
FTW
Surely your not suggesting that in the split second period from foot to hand it was deliberate hand ball, in an area of very little danger.

Yes.
After ball is kicked, movement of arm is deliberate & to balls trajectory & that touch took it away from its intended course to an opponent. Fact that it hit his chest first is irrelevant – it’s the arm movement that counts, something which makes the time factor irrelevant too.
If his arm had remained in same place that might have come in to play.
“Area of very little danger” is also a red herring.
Ball is played inside penalty area – thus it is an area of danger for defence per se.
Comment also implies that player made a calculation of very little danger, so why move his arm to path of ball. This is at odds with suggestion that the very short time/ distance between foot & hand negated any intentional element.
Players arm movement looked instinctive but since law only allows for deliberate or accidental, ref has to decide which one.
This one was pretty clearly not accidental when you view it in its entirety.

Haven’t noticed anyone in Africa yet. Enjoyed the bbc story about the African Champions League final abandoned because of a VAR controversy. The Tunisian home team had the machine at pitchside, players weren’t told it wasn’t working. Cue mayem from the Moroccan visitors about an equaliser on the night.
FTW: Apologies for late reply re Cosy Corner::It is indeed the origin of my blog name.In 1959 when I met my wife that was the pub nearest the bus stop where we met up before going out together for the night.

Liverpool lost possession from throw-ins 50% of the time (my guesstimate). And their corners hit the first man more often than not.
If only they practiced these things, or brought in coaches for these specific areas.
UEFA must be absolutely feckin delighted with that snore fest of a game last night.
To start with two clubs from the same country must have put a huge dent in the level of interest in other countries.
Then the game was ruined before it even started by the Pharasitic interpretation of the Laws of the Game followed by 90 minutes of misplaced passes and unforced errors.
Dull. Dull. Dull.
Hello again all you young rebels.
Just back in from a very tough and tousy away game against the
league leaders, 6 yellow cards, i red , and a 3-4 win for our bhoys
after going 2 down in the first half, so pwoud very pwoud.
Amazed how this location list has grown and grown and we’ve
still not heard from the likes of GREENBINGLYINOSLO and i’m
sure there are some African posters if not i’ll get a coupla my
bhoys to post.
As it stands i think FLEAGLE is our farthest from Celtic park fan
being in Aukland a really beautiful part of the world.
Wonder if anybody can beat him, my son is headed to Papa New Guinea
this week think i’ll ask him to post lol.
But really it is astonishing how many Celts all over the world are CQN
posters or lurkers.
Thank you all for being on the list and more importantly for being a
part of this big worldwide Celtic family.
What is it i usually say?

Good Morning…
Some may remember a post I made regarding our player wage bill t’uther day.
Well, the information on our average wage came from sporting intelligence… it was a off a off.
Now when I was searching and verifying the information an old blog of their’s came up.
Fairly irrelevant to my comment but read it out of interest… others might find it interesting too.
It has a looksy at Celtic and to a lesser extent Rangers (fascinating numbers in light of EBTs;). A few points of interest, our average wage which was on the decline is the same as last year. We started being viewed as a selling Club. The wages we were paying Robbie Keane…
