FORMER Celtic goal hero Odsonne Edouard is heading for soccer limbo after being told he is not wanted at TWO clubs – Leicester City and Crystal Palace.
The French international striker, who cost the Hoops a-then record fee of £9million when he arrived from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2018 after an initial impressive one-year loan, could be left stranded in next month’s transfer window.
Edouard was nowhere to be seen as Leicester came back to draw 2-2 with Brighton at the King Power Stadium yesterday and all indications are that new boss Ruud van Nistelrooy will cut short his season-long temporary deal.
The 26-year-old hitman hasn’t impressed at the Midlands outfit and has failed to score in any of his four outings for the club.
CROWNING GLORY…Odsonne Edouard celebrates scoring in Celtic’s 5-0 romp over Rangers at Parkhead in April 2018 which sealed the club’s 49th title.
Ex-Manchester United star Van Nistelrooy, who took over the Foxes hot seat last week, is reported to be ready to look elsewhere for another frontman to support veteran Jamie Vardy.
That would mean Edouard returning early to Palace where manager Oliver Glasner clearly has no plans to utilise the forward’s skills in his first team.
FIFA rules state that no player can turn out for more than two clubs in one season which would pitch the ex-Celt, who left Parkhead in a £15.5million switch in August 2021, into a quandary.
The London side’s gaffer dismissed Edouard when he said: “It’s not my highest priority to think about Odsonne. I don’t know about the contract details.
“From our side, It makes no sense to bring him back because if he’s not playing at Leicester, then why should he play for Crystal Palace?
“It was the same situation in the summer. Maybe he decided to get more minutes there. We explained the situation. The situation didn’t change at the end of the transfer window.
AU REVOIR, EDDY…Ange Postecoglou with departing striker Odsonne Edouard.
“It’s up to him and his agent. If he doesn’t get minutes at Leicester, then maybe he finds another loan.
“But it’s not the case of him coming back to play.”
Glasner, speaking in a Daily Record report added: “If you make a loan deal, it’s clear what every party wants. For Leicester, they want a good player to help them win games.
“For Odsonne, it’s about getting minutes to improve his performances and score goals. For us, it’s the same, so when he comes back, he’s in a better situation than when he left.
