Amid the general hilarity on Scottish football at the moment I’m sure it’s not escaped Ronny Deila’s attention that we have one of our most important games of the season coming up on Saturday. The league is a marathon without any specific focus, the League Cup final is another huge game, but facing Dundee away is exactly the kind of game a club who are chasing a treble often lose.
It was Dundee who knocked the Aberdeen bandwagon off its tracks. Given half a chance they will do the same to Celtic on Saturday.
Kenny McDowall must have felt a bit humiliated at being told he has to pick players on loan from Newcastle United, although clearly not humiliated enough to tell them to stuff the remainder of his contract.
Llambias’ instruction appears bizarre, but there’s always two sides to each story. If McDowall informed his chief executive that he would not use the players, for reasons other than sporting merit, Llambias may well feel justified in making the instruction.
This public shaming of Llambias, the board, and by extension, Mike Ashley, is another act in a dirty battle. Still, “It’s not personal, Sonny. It’s strictly business”, as Dave King almost said about Ashley yesterday.
Ashley’s men may be robbed of the ability to pick the team after an EGM next month, but he remains able to inflict a lot of ‘assistance towards the club’ before then. If I can paraphrase Tom Hagan, ‘Mr Ashley never asks a second favour once he’s refused the first, understood?’ When personal offence has been taken, sometimes even good business isn’t enough to bring a ruthless patriarch to the table.
When news of the attack on the 10-year-old boy broke on Monday I assumed it would be a matter of hours before the offender was charged. Three days on without news is concerning. It appears that those who associate with people who believe random violence is acceptable and care little about the application on justice – which has nothing to do with any specific policing issue.
Hard cash is now available to anyone with information leading to an arrest. If you can’t report the offender for the sake of the victim, do it for the money. You don’t need to be a witness to report the issue and collect the reward, you just need to know enough to get the ball rolling.
Well done to all who have gotten involved in the appeal to help the victim, especially organiser Rod Lee. Stunning work, Rod.

Dave’s difficulties with SARS began in 2000. He asked to be deregistered as a tax payer having declared a modest income of some £3,500. Some officious jobsworth took the perverse view that this didn’t square with his recent purchase of a painting by Irma Stern for the negligible sum of around £100,000. Dave’s difficulties are summarised in Judge Southwood’s judgement of 20/07/2011. Legal experts are firmly of the view that, in the intervening period, Dave told a world record number of lies. That is not, of course, to say that he is the world’s most successful liar. Here are some less familiar extracts from the unanimous three bench decision – note that each and every assertion by Dave is acknowledged as false:
“It is not in dispute that [Dave’s] evidence at the section 74C enquiry was materially false and in certain respects was a complete fabrication… [Dave] testified that all his wealth originated from his extremely wealthy mother, Mrs. N. He had no assets of note….According to [Dave] his mother would have set [the appellant company] up using her advisor in Glasgow….Regarding the [company][Dave] testified that the [it] was incorporated in 1993 by one Mr. XXX, at the time he could not remember his exact name, and his mother, Mrs. N, who was a very wealthy woman and lived in Scotland….According to [Dave] he would consult her but invariably she would let him guide her as to what should be done. Consequently it was not always necessary to phone her. [Dave] said that he cost his mother a lot of money by selling her DEF Ltd shares too cheaply….According to [Dave] this was to demonstrate that he… still had faith in DEF Ltd. (This was a hollow undertaking as almost all the DEF Ltd shares held by the appellant had already been sold.)…Regarding [Dave’s] knowledge of the trust structures [Dave] attempted to create the impression that he knew very little about the trust structures of his mother which were beneficial owners of the interests in the [company], ST Ltd and B Co.. [Dave’s] evidence at the section 74C enquiry is a tissue of lies. [Dave] obviously had full knowledge of the offshore structures which he had established in 1993 and 1996…[Dave] allowed the transcript of the evidence at the section 74C enquiry to be used before the SARS panel when he obviously knew that much of the relevant evidence was a fabrication….Not only is the evidence vague and unsubstantiated but it makes no sense and is improbable…. [Dave] denied that he had testified that he did this when it is clear that he did… [Dave] contradicted himself about whether he had a loan account in DEF Ltd… [Dave’s] evidence makes no sense at all…. [Dave] testified that over a lengthy period he had falsely stated in his tax returns that neither he nor his children were beneficiaries of a trust whether inside or outside South Africa. At all times he and his children were beneficiaries of the X Trust. He did this in his returns for 1994-2001….He also knew that his mother did not have shares in the [company] or exercise any control over [it] either directly or indirectly… He knew that no other person exercised control of the [company] directly or indirectly and he knew that he had de facto control over [it]. At all times the trustees of the trust and/or the [company]‘s directors did his bidding….In argument before this court [his own] counsel readily conceded that [Dave] was not honest and was not credible”

I almost felt sorry for Kenny McDowall having watched that press conference. He looked nervous and is obviously being humiliated by what he’s been told to do.

It’s hard to see how the culprits could just walk away from what happened to the young boy. The accused has been identified as 5ft 10″, wearing green, and heading towards Hampden. So why did no one follow him to confront or point him out? It’s all very strange.

The bus was surrounded by Celtic supporters, there would have been Celtic supporters who witnessed that attack who were not involved, I’d have thought we might have had a few eye witness reports doing the blog land rounds too.
Any Celtic supporter who witnessed the incident and has done or said nothing is as guilty as the idiot who threw the bottle.

Thanks, I have no doubt the boy was genuinely injured. As you say I dont see why no one has reported the idiot. Especially as there was plenty of folks around. Maybe it’s just a case of an idiot lobbing a bottle in a crowd and getting away with it. My point was that people seemed to know who it was hence were able to identity him.
The Premier League’s sale of TV rights for the 2016-19 seasons will go ahead as planned after broadcast regulator Ofcom rejected a bid from Virgin Media to halt the process.
The sale is expected to deliver another bumper payday for top-flight clubs and to be completed this month – and possibly even by the end of this week – after the Premier League sent out its invitation to tender (ITT) in December.
Ofcom is still investigating a complaint from Virgin Media about how the Premier League sells its TV rights but rejected the application to halt the sale until the investigation is completed.
A statement from Ofcom said: “Ofcom has today decided to reject the application, as it does not consider that there is an urgent need to intervene to delay the auction. “There will be a significant gap, of around 17 months, between the auction and the start of the 2016/2017 season when broadcasting of the relevant matches will commence.”
The regulator did say however it could enforce action if its investigation does find fault with the league.
The statement added: “In the event that Ofcom’s investigation concludes that there is an infringement, Ofcom has the necessary powers to require the Premier League and Premier League clubs to make changes to arrangements for the broadcasting of matches within the time available before the start of the relevant season.
“The investigation is ongoing and will consider the potential harm to competition and consumers arising from joint selling under the auction.”
The Premier League has also confirmed to Ofcom it will put in place arrangements in any contracts with broadcasters to address any consequences if the investigation find it has breached competition rules.
Ofcom said it expects to publish a further document in March into the complaint by Virgin Media that the Premier League’s joint selling means domestic consumers pay too much to watch matches on TV. The current three-year deal with Sky and BT Sport is worth just over £3billion to the Premier League clubs.
Brigitte Trafford, Virgin Media’s chief corporate affairs officer, said: “We welcome Ofcom’s confirmation that it can, and will, intervene after the auction if it reaches the conclusion that it needs to remedy any consumer harm. The Premier League has acknowledged this and has agreed to implement any action Ofcom may take.”

Up until recently. I was beginning to question the value of Lennoxtown.
The few lads who made it can be counted on one hand, with, perhaps, a few fingers to spare.
Every year, a group of 19-20 years old boys were released and some others sent to Limbo, i.e., out on loan.
I have now come round to the view that it is performing like a true Acadamy, a place of learning
Like any vocational course, there comes a time when the student goes out on placement.
This is to give the under graduate experience of the environment in which they hope to operate.
This environment is removed from the cosy, nurtured cocoon where they have spent the last number of years.
They are expected to hold their own with seasoned pros and perform for clubs where games are meaningful.
Celtic have recognised this and young players are now anxious to go out on loan, as they see it as a direct path to future first team football.
What happened to the bottle ???
