Congratulations to Dundee FC who return to the top flight of Scottish football for the first time in seven years. Back in the 60s Dundee were a top European team. They won the league in 1962 and in the preliminary round of the European Cup they trounced West German champions, Cologne, 8-1 at Dens. Cologne put a more respectable face on the aggregate result two weeks later, winning 4-0 in front of 40,000 fans.
Dundee went on to beat Portuguese champions Sporting Lisbon 4-2 on aggregate in the first round proper, this while Portuguese runners-up, Benfica, retained the European Cup only five months earlier. If the Cologne result was the most enduring in the collective memory, the 4-1 win over Sporting at Dens was one of the all-time great results in Scottish football history.
Anderlecht were next victims, losing 1-4 in front of 65,000 fans in Brussels before the fairy tale ended in the semi final against eventual winners, Milan, at a packed San Siro. A Wembley final against Benfica was Milan’s prize, a tie Dundee would surely have fancied.
The result against Cologne is historically the most impressive but this was not the case at the time. This was a period before the Bundesliga when West German teams participated in regional leagues, with the winners playing-off to enter the European Cup. Once German teams were able to join a financially prosperous league instead of being shackled by historical custom, they never looked back. Dundee, like all Scottish clubs, are disenfranchised from the history they could be creating by the poor value of their TV market.
It’s time for a change, not just for the sake of Celtic! If only the guys running the show knew the history and heritage of the team promoted today, or believed in the potential of Scottish clubs.

CelticResearch @CelticResearch
I’d now say we’ll see a restructure & 3 divisions for the start of next season with Sevco in the second tier if they gain SFA membership.
3rd?
Top 5?
How do I go about getting an adult and child ST.Will I have to phone Parkhead or can I do it online Iam I right in thinking the childs ST is £50.
4th..? …..no bad for me
Celtic_First-Davis and Papac last season were on EBT’s,if every game any of them played is awarded as a 0-3 defeat (which they should) the huns (remember them?) would have finished bottom and Dunfermline 11th.I hope Dundee do come up as i hate Yorkston, but surely sporting integrity……….

Had a quick look at Stanraer fixtures, as these will now become the fixtures of Sevco.
The first clash of home games comes on Sat 1st-Sep when we are due to play Hibs, will the top league always take precedent or is there a chance of our home games being moved away from a Saturday at 3pm? Anyone know?
Shouldnt matter if we both play on the same day as they are a wee diddy team.
We have played at the same time as the other big club in glasgow Thistle with no problems

Just gambled on this too. I think will most likely KO early on sat 4th for tv. (Re post!)
Paul 67 –
It’s all about forward thinking and not the Ramsdens Cup.
Good for football, good for Dundee and good for ole Jim Spence, one of the few journalists to come out of recent events with his reputation enhanced.

we’re due at Dens on Boxing Day, Dundee United are at home to St Johnstone that day.

Yes £50 unless you include the two Dundee matches in which case it rises to £122.
At least St Johnstone and ofcourse Dundee Utd will be delighted with the promotion of Dundee as this will generate healthy attendances.
I imagine Sky will also be happy that they have at lease three more lively derbies to show.
Facilitate = SFA Licence, and stuff the rules.

Cheers Glasgowbhoy – flights booked.

Sorry pal I doubt no Iam sure the SPL don’t know the answer to that one.

Our games will come first. We will only be moved for European involvement.
I have a feeling it will not be an issue though.
Sevco – bye bye…

That one’s been doing the rounds for a while, but it is incorrect.
When MIH sold RFC to Whyte, the EBT framework was no longer available, being as it was the Murray Group EBT.
The players who had an EBT contract up until the takeover, were all given new contracts on enhanced terms.
Craig Whyte, amongst other accolades, carries the distinction of being the only Chairman of Rangers this Centrury to field an entirely eligible team in all matches.
Have we reached the final chapter ? Surely the epilogue can only be the legal hurricane that will now engulf Sevco5088/newco ragers/Govan Utd……..whatever the hell they call themselves, and that can only be a semi-amusing sideshow as we get on with playing football against the likes of Dundee F.C. And yes, welcome to those men and boys as they look to a great time in the spl.
Top 10!
Bob Crampsie reckoned the best Scottish club side he had ever seen was the Dundee team that reached the semi final of the European Cup in 1962/3.
The man was an idiot.

I don’t think either of them were on EBTs last season – cast your mind back to those shiny new contracts awarded to five or six players at the start of last season and recall the wages, as posted here and elsewhere, of those players when it came to 25%-time. They would not have been on anything like those wages had they also been using the EBTs.
Keep in mind where this comes from, but Agent Whyte also said that when he took over, it was HE who ended the EBTs, which would tie in nicely with the new contracts.
On the understanding that a brown-plop-storm was about to hit some time soon and that it would certainly spell disaster (ok, even more disaster) for them had current usage been proven, I actually believe him :-o

The facility to pick your seats from the official page seems to have gone. It gave you the chance to go into every section in the ground and get a couple of seats together.
Your best bet is to go to the TO and speak to them. I was in the other day, and it was very quiet.
The £50 ticket was minus the 2 Glasgow derby games. Now the games v Dundee are the ones not included. I would expect the price to rise to about £60 in order to include the two Dundee games. I’ll be doing that for my daughter’s ticket.
SPF
Celebration planned for when it was finally confirmed, fantastic news, champagne now in fridge, may they rot in division 3 forever, it’s their rightful place in Scottish football.
Looks like the next silverware sevco fc will be handling is a knife and fork as they are apparently taking on Harry’s challenge.
(first game Brechin v The Rangers in the Ramsden cup.).
Should I still be laughing after all this time. Seems I have been chuckling forever.
So it’s Dundee on Boxing Day then. At least we know.
Do you realise that Sevco will be able to win two trophies in their first season that we have never won?

I would like to think our games would come first, but what this last few months has shown is that all rules need not apply.
Of course f there is no SevCo then all the better.

I would love Scottish football to thrive whilst Aunt Sally and his pub team toil in Division 3.
Last thread, SPL fixtures take precedent.
Finn MacCunaill on 16 July, 2012
You booked on the basis of my post?! Nervous?!!
^^ also what TBB said.
Cunningly, Whyte, instead of using an EBT, decided the best means of reducing their tax overheads was simply not to pay any at all.
The sly fox.
Possibly the best day in Jim Spence’s life.
At a time when the SPL needs commercial acumen, innovative thinking, creative marketing and relentless business development, we get Michael Johnstone.
Dear Lord!
Good grief! It’s good to see Dundee back. I don’t know why it’s good to see Dundee back, it just is.
Yes, the 1960s… Dunfermline and Kilmarnock had scintillating results too, though down in England you’d never have known it.

Except if you count the Maribor games where Carlos Bocanegra played despite being ineligible. The truth is that no chairman of rangers this century can claim such an accolade.
Paul67
Nice call!
Dundee! Welcome to the SPL!
Dunfermline, judging by their internet press release on the internet have accepted their fate with good grace, good on them, hope they get promoted this season.
!Bada Bing!!
Thanks for the answer, but my thinking is the same as Dirtymac’s.
