A case to answer for SFA and Celtic

1175

Referee Steven McLean saw the incident when Josh Meekings stopped a Leigh Griffiths header crossing the line with his hand.  He was 12 yards away with an unobstructed view.  The blame for getting the decision wrong is entirely his.

We can only speculate as to why he didn’t award a penalty.  At best, McLean didn’t believe the evidence of his own eyes and passed the buck to his assistant Alan Muir, who was around 6 yards from the action but with a less-clear view.

Muir did not see Meekings clear the ball legally.  If he was distracted, and failed to see what happened clearly enough, he should have informed the referee.  If Muir told the referee anything else, this is also a failing.

The SFA have a case to answer. Not fit and proper, to use their parlance.

Notwithstanding the fact that if the rules of the game were followed Celtic would be in the cup final right now, they are out because they failed to deal appropriately with the known qualities of Inverness.

Three goals were lost, all of which were defensive mistakes.  A break downfield which caught the defence cold, a cross from the right which was not properly contested with all defenders in position, and a failure to match a back post run (similar to a recent League Cup final goal conceded to Kilmarnock).  Fatigue may have contributed to the final goal but being down to 10 men was not a contributing factor for the first two.

The game should have been won in the first half but we opened the second period off-pace.

Another matter which should be on the agenda at Lennonxtown today is why didn’t we have the right studs on?

It should be someone’s job to make a decision after the team arrives at a ground on which studs to wear.  If the decision was made, the decision was wrong.  If this process was not followed, it should have been.  Either way there is also a case to answer internally.

The following extract is from the article you referred to. Some familiar names here ……..

“After a penalty claim was ignored by referee Craig Thomson, when Jambos substitute Ryan Stevenson, on for Black, looked like he might have used an arm in the box, the raging Lennon was dismissed from the dugout after aggressively complaining to fourth official Steven McLean and linesman Graham Chambers.”

Same cast of characters same snide cheating.

Shame on Celtic FC for going along with it without demur.

If Bankier was as quick to make statements about the cheating referees as he was about our own support it might make a difference?

    I’m out.

I will not be buying a season ticket for next season. I thought long and hard about this season’s renewal and a few very good men, my young brother Pedrocaravanachio67 and BoabM curly shoes, among them put me on another year of enjoying my days to fun city and many good after match nights. Loved every minute of it too:-)

Last night was the icing on the cake. I expect nothing of Celtic, we are a lame duck club in the face of hun complicit corruption.

If Celtic ever stand up, grow some teste’s and fight on my behalf, I’ll be back in a shot.

Until then, fuck Scottish football, my golf handicap will be reduced and the hun can peepilise itself back into the mainstream.

JJ, sorry pal, you’re back on the bus pal, I’m sure we’ll get to catch up for some sclaffbaw and a bit of storonway black noo n again.

Hail Hail Celtic Men and Wummin, Great people and great friends.

  6. Bada, that’s exactly why we should be pushing for the replays, it let’s us push the honesty agenda in a proactive way rather than coming out with the cheating scenario, as they turn a blind eye or deaf ear to it.

In the baseball league in North America, they have been using it for a few years now.

I cannot see why they would resist it if say FIFA were to come out and say it is mandatory for all members

  8. Goal line technology was resisted for ages, but appears to be working fine in EPL.

I think video evidence will come. Only a matter of time. Its unaaceltable in today’s world, with the technology we have, that video evidence isn’t in use.

Any arguments against video evidence would surely be countered by fans wanting accuracy.

Not sure whose call it is though. SFA? Uefa?

  9. ACGR Jaysus, If your Golf Handicap is reduced any further you will be lower than The AngelGabriel. Over here all the buggers are trying to keep their handicaps high.

Our tactics cost us theiron 1st goal, watch again and look at the position of Izzy as they break – Mathews is our right back, had to cover all positions, he got the tackle in, and as stated by Herbo, our goalie was too slow of his line, and came out feet first.

Yes Mathews did not have a great game, but watch 3rd goal again, both Denayer and Izzy poor play in lead up, Mathews couldn’t tackle or it was a penalty ? Wrong side, but when ball came across 6 yard box Izzy again in wrong place – this is a regular occurrence, I love the guy, but was very poor defensively yesterday, again our tactics allows him to play far to frequently out of position.

    Hail Hail

  16. Down here in the self-proclaimed capital of the universe the dodginess of the penalty decision hasn’t even been mentioned (no surprise there). But therein lies the problem; nobody outside of Scotland cares about the cheating (in fact barely anyone outside of the Celtic support does). SFA think they can get away with it, and they do. I don’t think a boycott will make a difference. Eventually they will have their way and the Rangers-based spin-off will be back in the top league and the cheating will make sure that they are always competing at, and filling out, the Hampden showpieces.

If someone has the drive and discipline to campaign relentlessly then they are an absolute hero. I hope I am wrong and that the supporters can drive real change, but at the moment I just feel it will fall on deaf ears.

If the board cant support the manager, players, and supporters.

We should have a new board, with a different outlook.

Silence will get us nowhere, that’s why we have been shafted for so long.

Money is the god of the Celtic board, its the only desire for people who will condone cheating and corruption.

We should get rid of every one of them.

They are a disgrace to Celtic supporters.

BT, not a problem pal, always happy to dram in your company.

MickTT, you get the rage I’m feeling, it’s worn me down.

Corkcelt, I’ll not be giving up, I’ll just be withdrawing my cash and time from the purse. I reckon that’s about three grand and two hundred hours per season.

If I spend the two hundred hours at the practice area and the three grand on the durtiest hookers money can buy, I for one think I’ll be a happier man than I am right now. I might even catch the good angel Gabriel.

  21. Jude – you talking to me? Perhaps you’ve misunderstood or I didn’t fully explain and I can see from rereading my post it is probably the latter. For the avoidance of doubt I’m referring to my many acquaintances and some friends here who support the like after Liverpool or man utd or are just big GAA heads who have a liking or sympathy for Celtic. I’m not referring to the many died in the wool Celtic supporters from this dear isle which I call home.

Only for the misunderstanding being my fault I’d take offence at what you asked me!!!!!

If you thought yesterday was bad just wait until operation “Get Sevco up” in the play offs is implemented.

It will be interesting to see other clubs reactions to the cheating if that occurs,I am also wondering just how the bookies will react at the amount to the amount of money which might be being suddenly placed on results-red cards and penalties…hmmmmmm

  25. Out of interest – serious question – what should or could the board do about the cheating?

I ask as someone who in plenty other areas of life demands action from people in positions of responsibility and leadership. Sometimes you have to know exactly what it is you want people to do before you demand and more often than not you need to have a strategy laid out for them or they won’t act in the way you want anyway.

So let’s put it out there
