BRENDAN RODGERS wants to make Leigh Griffiths a Celt for life.

The Hoops striker, 27, whose current contract runs until the summer of 2021, has revealed he is in talks over an extension.

The Parkhead boss said: “I’d love to have him here and tie him down. Talks are ongoing with his representatives and he’s a player we want to keep.”

Griffiths is in the frame to face former club Hibs at Easter Road tomorrow where a victory will give the champions their seventh successive title.

But Rodgers warned: “Knowing Neil Lennon like I do, he’ll be doing everything he possibly can to win. He also has his professional pride as well.

“He’ll want them to continue with their challenge in the league.

“Neil and his team have done great this season. They’ve always been a difficult opponent and we’ve played four times already this season.”

Celtic have been held twice this season by the Edinburgh outfit, but managed to overcome Lennon’s side 4-2 in the League Cup semi-final and 1-0 at home in the Premiership on January 27 when Griffiths scored the only goal.

Rodgers added: “They’re a top-class club and they’ve been that for a number of years.

“Neil obviously came in and got them promoted – his mentality and drive will have galvanised the club.”
