You and I are both optimistic types. So every year on this day, we remind ourselves that ‘these things even themselves out’, and after a run of difficult group stage draws, we expect Celtic to get a favourable Champions League draw this evening.
Pot 3 could make or break the draw. Celtic are in this pot and it is undoubtedly weaker than Pot 4; Pot 3 has only one club from a ‘big five’ league, whereas Pot 4 has six. Drop your cynicism and allow me a few more hours optimism before Uefa’s new computer system determines our fate.
Earlier this week we discussed that Matt O’Riley will become a case study in how to recruit, manage and sell a football player. Within a few days, Matt is subject to another case study. He was injured after six minutes football for Brighton. Today it was confirmed the injury is serious and will require surgery.
This is football. At any point, your biggest asset can be a second away from being finished in the game (not that Matt is in this situation). When you are sitting on an offer for a player, but have a game to play against an ‘industrious’ St Mirren, the potential for things to go wrong is a consideration.
In 2010, Andreas Hinkel was subject to a £1m offer to return to Germany. Celtic were keen to get him off the payroll and recoup some of the outlay on him. Andreas suffered a crucial injury in a reserve game and was ruled out for the entire season. That injury cost Celtic £2.5m (wages and lost fee). Michael Nicolson would have been happy at fulltime on Sunday at more than just the result.
Best wishes to Matt, he will hopefully return for the Paradise Windfall Draw during his convalescence. At least £4m of his fee is performance related; the chances of collecting this portion took a hit today.
I’m also sitting on a lot of optimism for what the next 35 hours will bring. Looking forward to seeing Young Boys and Red Star!

Was discussing this with hertz mates, they need to bullet Naismith and stop employing ex hun managers. No one disagreed…..

Re sequencing of fixtures , I’d prefer to get the harder seeds first before they are fully into their season , and to avoid Red Star in the winter.

Red star = Zagreb
PB – indeed.
Tuned in from half time.
Copious blah blah about formation.
(I think McCann actually believes he’s intelligent)
Totally irrelevant when none of their players can pass or control a football.
Third force?
Turd force more like.

takes a lot of heavy lifting to come to that conclusion after those 2 games
Taxi driver just told me his mates granny washes the strips at Dundee and the goundsman told her it’s a done deal on Friday……
Only joking Bhoys .

clueless Performance from hearts , just like the manager .
My friends in Celtic,
Happiness is being a Celtic supporter.
Great winnable draw. For progression we could not have hand picked better.
Now for part of my wish list.
Lets price the home package realistically. Evaluate the four teams and price accordingly. Price to suit the opposition not the competition.
Club, team and supporters aligned we can again turn Parkhead into a fortress.
HH.
GP – great post sir.
D. :
I just saw Copenhagen drew with Killie to get through to the conference league.
One of those teams we should look to emulate in Europe.
Hopefully we’ll be that team this season
Auston Trusty for 6m
No ambiguity. Dundee are waiting for us to top Hibs offer for McCowan. They have been sure all along this will happen and Nelms is well disposed toward us anyway. I would be very surprised if that doesn’t happen. He has real to develop for sure.
There is a real risk of us creating 2 teams like dear old Sir David tried to do over in govan. One for the league and one for Europe.
A few regular posters missing tonight funnily enough.

Shitty joke, but heh no.

I really don’t disagree with you re the principle. It think you are right. I do think it a wee bit disrespectful to our opponents if we varied the pricing. we never charged up for Madrid and so doubt we will charge down for the Europa Qtr finalists from last year or a team who finished above Bayern Munich and Dortmund in the BL.
I reckon they will hold the prices vs last year per game. I have about 6 non season ticket owning friends desperate to see if there are any packages going. So whatever happens they will sell out. I know that is not your point though and I do respect what you are saying.
Goodnight all

If you or Alex Gordon or anyone else base your support for Celtic FC, team and club, on this result or that result you are supporting the wrong team and the wrong club. And I do not want to hear otherwise.
Celtic got beat 6-0, by Kilmarnock on Jimmy johnstone’s debut and Jock Stein’s Celtic team got beat 6-2 at Brockville shortly after he took over in 1965. Ten days later Celtic FC won the Scottish Cup.

Didn’t we lose 5 to Dunfermline the Wednesday after the cup final
GENE @ 10:15
Was at the 65 cup final….and yes lost 5 to the Pars Maxwell missing a penalty.
gene
And we got beat 2-1 at Parkhead by Partick Thistle the week before the Scottish Cup Final.
We finished eighth in the League that season, were never going to win it, but the Scottish Cup was back in the Trophy Room.
Oh and we were Scottish Champions one year later.
Fitba, bloody hell…..
What happened to the Frimpong cash ?…same fate as Dembele’s ? 🤔🤣🍀
STV sport saying we have agreed a deal for Trusty.
I think today’s draw was the best we could hope for but I’m not convinced about the surge of optimism. Just what has happened in the last three months to suggest we can suddenly compete at this level? I’d love to be proven wrong but I expect us to go into our first cl tie with roughly our best team of last season minus Matt O’Riley.
I’d love to be proven wrong but has anything we’ve done to date given us any evidence that we won’t be our usual euro soft touch?
Until I see the evidence I remain sceptical.
Right now I’d settle for 2 or 3 decent performances and victories at Celtic Park. Anything else is a bonus.

Couldn’t give a 🐒 🐒 (huns) if the Rangers get more cash to splash .
We’re so far ahead ON and off the park it doesn’t really matter ,does it ?
The windaes looking guid,……..so far 👍😄
Oops.
I’m off to Bologna at the end of September for a wee holiday and will hope to catch a game. Anyone ever been to the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium? If yes how did you get a ticket?

CELTIC MAC
The 2-1 defeat to Partick was my first game at Parkhead …….
I remember when my dad and me were on the 211 bus from Easterhouse (public transport) to see the Tic as it got to Parkhead the bus was attacked by hibs thugs , windows got papped in and luckily for us we were on the top deck but the celtic fans on the lower deck got quite a doing ……..
When I saw them running upto the bus I thought they were Celtic fans 🙈
I was seven at the time , terrified …..still sends shivers .

A win /win situation.
Hearts win, Huns lose money, hearts get pumped, happy with that as well.
Timmy
Try their on line ticket sales.
Got tickets for Real Madrid that way. Got tickets to my phone then used phone to get into the game.

3 good performances with 2 wins and a draw out of 8 game could see us qualify. 3 wins or 2 wins and 2 draws definitely would.
Last season we had no real back up to Kyogo and no ccv for several CL games. We were not playing as cohesively as now.
We have players who have spent time here establishing themselves and now cover at LB CB Striker and CM.
If you don’t see it then you are choosing not too.

That kind of thing will stay in your mind…..for a while. Especially when it was your first home game Jesus.
(Cowardly when you think about it, not unlike the Ajax fans attacking some of our supporters, (sitting at a meal in a Dutch restaurant) a few years back. Been in a similar scenario too, near Carntyne bus attacked from the railway above, too young myself, but a few of the grownups, no names no packdrill, were out of the bus and up that embankment so fast you did not want to be the guys doing the throwing, only thing I will say is one of the guys nickname was ‘Stonewall’, he fitted the bill…
That’s the thing though there is more to supporting the Celtic than the result, then or now.
Genuinely not at the wind up here.
Friend who doesn’t spread rumours very often messaged me tonight … saying there’s a fire sale at R2ngers.
Everything but the girl stuff.
Anyone heard anything?
Came from a current player’s wife.
(Yes i know !)
BTW – even if true, I’d lay short odds they win the “last word” trophy …
…. and announce a loan (either a well known pro on the slide or an unbelievable wonder kid) at 10:55pm.
BTB
Would she be a current!s bun? :)
Yeah , cowards there were plenty of supporters buses there but attacked a public transport one with 6 or 7 bhoys on board .
That next season was the start of everything ……
“That’s the thing though there is more to supporting the Celtic than the result, then or now”.
Ain’t that the truth .
God bless ye .
