A flash of brilliance from Abada

231

When they went a goal behind, St Mirren provided evidence they can play a bit.  They never actually made a chance worthy of the name, but they passed with speed and accuracy and forced Celtic’s more advanced players to work back and cover.

New manager, Steve Robinson, bemoaned their luck, “a ricochet” and a ball that “bounced off a face”.  Liel Abada may disagree.  The breakthrough came after he was pinned to the touchline by three opponents.  His control was so precise he broke free and forced a foul that led to the opener.  Tight games are so often won by a flash of brilliance from a gifted talent, we have a few in our ranks who can fill that role.

As Jota prepared to take the kick, I said, “It’s pointless sending in a high ball, we have no height.”  I promise to repeat this often until the end of the season.  What height we have is limited to two central defenders, the absolute entry-level attribute for any team.  Good deliveries, though, are hard to defend.

You will have noticed our passing seemed introverted at times.  Overhit or inaccurate passes have been a feature of recent games, sapping confidence which inhibits future outcomes.  A series of games on poor pitches, including a wintered-looking Celtic Park, has not helped.  The Plastic Pasta Pitch on Sunday will be no better, and it’s pointless sending in a high ball, we have no height.

  1. A fans eye view.

Most games I will go find a seat in the Lisbon Lions lower tier as close to behind the goal as i can and watch from a place that gives you a view across the width of the pitch.

Second half i watch from either the tunnell at 122 or my own seat which is right on the corner flag of Main stand and that gives a view across the penaly box.

That close to the pitch you get a real perspective of how fast the game is , how fit and tough the players are, how brutal the opposition can be, how accurate most of the passing is, and how difficult it is to pick a player out for a cut back, lay them in on goal, get a cross onto their heads etc etc.

I dont see it as a lack of effort or pedestrian side to side (you pass the ball mostly to where the space is) and I do despair when there is a groan form the top deck, who are looking down at a big obvious open pass, and a player being shut down by two or more oppostion and doesnt see it.

Maeda last night was perpetual motion, must have ran 12k or more, and got picked out with like 2 passes the whole game.

Hatate has went from hero to hmmm, but he looks knackered everytime subbed, he is giving t his all,

You get home watch on tv, and it is a completely different game.

    But celtic still won it.

    I know what you mean.

The BBC is probably the last place I’d seek out Celtic news but as I said, a friend texted the link to me and after I had a look, I laughed and passed it on to CQN.

  3. Has Judith Ralston made the same amout of appearances for rangers as Aaron Ramsay ?

  4. Burnley78,

I have no wish to go over old ground with you.I was making a joke regards Brian F,about the TV,by the way its 65 inch. You were angry that I pulled you up about idle gossip about one of our players. You then came out with the 3rd World Country crap.Even replying a short time ago,it reeked of condescencion, and ignorance. You know nothing of Turkey.

Your repetitive nonsense about the vaccine, has nothing to do with anything. You were trying to convince people they were wrong to take it,putting peoples health and life in possible danger.

To coin an off used phrase on here,”You are a Chump”.An arrogant conceited one at that.No more correspondence.

  5. St Stivs,

Yes,we may have to play them to fulfil our fixtures, but the fans who feel so strongly don’t have to attend. To say I will go,and around 8,000 pay 50 quid for the priviedge, then take a hypocritical stance about Oz is ridiculous. The GB put in a massive amount of effort for the game, enough to have them banned, now protesting.A nonsense. If you go in Glasgow, you nor the club are supporting the “Old Firm”tag, same as if you go in Oz.Celtic did not organize this tourney, but whoever has packaged it has made the scum a laughing stock if they attend.A bunch of stooges at the Ange show.

Reading between the lines, it is clear that a number of posters believe Celtic invited Rangers on their trip to Australia.

  7. If Hatate is burnt out as some think, the manager should not be playing him till after the break.Rest him up.Wether he is or not,he is a man short at the moment,so should not be playing.Fantastic player, but a faint shadow of the guy who burst onto the scene. We cannot afford it.

  8. Turkeybhoy

    Absolute nonsense.

We should have nothing to do with Sevco.

Unfortunately we have to play them 4 times a season to fulfill our fixtures.

We cannot get out of that.

This charade in Australia is an embarrassment, it’s pathetic getting involved with them.

There should be no joint ventures with them.

We are not a half of anything.

We have nothing in common with those bigots and cheats.

There is no Old Firm, and shame on anyone who claims to support Celtic and attends this game.

  9. Tom,

Yes.Organized the tourney.Picked the teams, the stadium.Plus called it the Old Firm show.

    Shame on them.

  10. Moravcik,

How is it absolute nonsense.Did you actually read the post your calling out.

If the fans feel this way,why do they attend the Sky televised,Old Firm Derby at Celtic Park.No reason to if you don’t want to be associated with them.We could have sold 100,000 tickets for the game. That how angry the fans were. Its totally hypocritical to pick and choose. All games against them boycotted,or none.

The media will use the term from now to eternity,so you better get used to it.

  12. Moravcik,

Its no such thing as a “Joint venture”Its been organized and sold by some clever people in Oz.

    Maybe that’s not true either.

  13. !!Bada Bing!! on

We have to play them because we are in the same league as them,so i shouldn’t go and support Celtic, because of……?

Very poignant scenes at Goodison as Ukrainian players raise their flag to the backdrop of John Lennon’s IMAGINE, just as ITV exit to a commercial break. Scumbags.

Clearly you are such a happy chap that you need to come on a Website to highlight how happy you are and spend your time abusing folk who have such inferior existences to you. Funny eh.

FYI my wee life maybe limited by comparison but it works well for me and my family. I don’t really need a G&T and a 53 inch telly to make me feel good.

On health matters I don’t think I told anyone what to do. I simply presented a different view which worked for me and cost no one anything. I always acknowledged others right to do different. It’s called tolerance.

Back on the day our routine was walking from the jungle about the 18yrd line rangers end round to the main stand side of the Celtic end by the end of the game.

That way we could get back to Kinnear Rd quickly for our supporters bus home and see Celtic shooting into the goals in front of us in the second half.

  17. IniquitousIV on

The white Cafu gets his first game for Everton at wingback, playing in front of JonJo Kenny.

  18. No worries Tom .

Bit hurt you would intentionally err spelling my moniker when there is no need to be stubborn in learning.

  19. your just not getting it, might be a consequence of living away for so long.

We go to that game because we want to see Celtic play, we dont go because it is “an old firm” whatever the fruck that is meant to mean anymore.

we detest anything that is promoted under that banner.

we hated when we had joint sponsorship deals, same names on jerseys and were coining it in on collusion with each other.

I was glad when they died, I was ever more so happy there was no such fixture anymore.

I didn not go to the first ever new glasgow derby game, and was latered told i missed a treat, just for the laughs.

I go to those games now to see celtic.

If the offer was come to australia and get 2million pounds, thats good,

if the offer was play in a tournament with something called rangers and get 3 million, then that is a commercial decision that disgust me, and plays into legitimising the continuity myth.

    Its a “wee surrender” moment.

we could play Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and anyone from the J leageu, or harlem globe trotters or circus solei, there will still be sold out signs up for Oz and NZ celts.

By the way I am boycotting in anyway, Australia in November (and the Port Harp aint running a bus).

    ps,

watch the narritvie change should we not win the league. It wont be Ange returns , it will be Rangers scotlands champions take on the also rans.

their fear just now is just that, a fear they wont be champions when they go on tour and they have 2nd billing.

Next week the board will announce some sponsorship because it suddenly became available.

I hate to go there to be honest, but again celtic plc, what are you doing.

  25. Paterson playing for Everton has triggered the first scheduled payment clause.

While all of us fans on here believe the ‘OF’ term died when they did in 2012, that fact just isn’t universally accepted. While it irks most true Celts the ‘OF’ term still lives around the commercial, legal and marketing departments of the clubs, and within the lexicon of world meeja who overlook how THEMS stiffed their beloved majesty and numerous small businesses out of cash that was rightfully theirs as they got liquidated/bust.

While they literally ‘sold the jerseys’ to another entity, many non-Celts (including out own PLC) are very ready to gloss over that truth so they can market and wring every possible penny out of the historic hostilities.

Most football fans I speak to over here don’t understand the reality of the ruse used to resurrect The Rangers. Their eyes glaze over as I try to make them understand the lack of continuity and the airbrushed debts etc….

Sadly, the OF brand will likely still exist to our successors long after we’ve all been buried, burnt or mulched.

The Sydney thing not likely to be a quality fitba spectacle anyway; Sydney FC sit mid-table and WSW are 3rd bottom despite Jack Rodwell’s (remember that name??) rehab as captain of that side.

Interesting point re old firm initiatives.

A few years ago I was involved in setting up the Carling sponsorship of Celtic and Rangers.

One of the very clever marketing team, in all seriousness, came up with the idea that we should create a Co brand Carling old firm tee shirt and pint glasses with both clubs logos on ! They honestly could not understand why I thought these were insane ideas. They even wanted joint branded outer cases to sell it.

Some folk really don’t get it.
