A gentleman that’s going round Turning the joint upside down

1101

There’s a gentleman that’s going round
Turning the joint upside down
Stool Pigeon – ha-cha-cha-cha
He’s an old ex-con that’s been away
Now he’s back, no one’s safe

It’s quite likely that David Grier and Craig Whyte had many conversations they didn’t want replayed on BBC Reporting Scotland.  Their deal to acquire Rangers from Sir David Murray and Lloyds Banking Group would have required many scenarios to be considered, some of which would certainly be unpalatable.  So with this in mind, Grier may have been comfortable discussing strategy with Whyte when the latter recorded their conversation in May this year.  They had been in the proverbial trenches together before and at one time would have had a bond of trust.

What frankly beggars belief is that either party would consider this bond to be still in place a month after Duff and Phelps sued Craig Whyte’s company for £25m.  It’s even more surprising that Mr Grier and Mr Whyte were on such convivial terms – chatting liberally in a restaurant about such a serious matter – while they were supposed to be on opposite sides of a £25m legal action.

We now know that Rangers administration went miles off track soon after it started. Whyte, as we predicted back in October last year, hoped to present creditors and Scottish football with a fait accompli.  Duff and Phelps were to complete the task within days for a fixed fee of a fraction of what they eventually raised.

Instead Duff and Phelps fee increased by a factor of six, Whyte lost control of events and inherited a great deal of litigation, not to mention a police inquiry.  Duff and Phelps must now prepare to tell the truth to Lord Hodge next week.  There are millions of pounds at play here and anything short of the truth could land them in heaps of trouble.

Credit to Mark Daly and Reporting Scotland for landing the recording.  The BBC are taking a pounding this month but this was a stunning item for an evening news bulletin to present.

Craig Whyte, you will remember, threatened to sue Daly last year and managed to convince the hard of thinking that Daly, and the BBC, were victimising Rangers by dishing the dirt on Whyte.  Some still adhere to this belief, despite now realising their Messiah was just a naughty boy, it’s a cognitive dissonance thing.  Another lesson that football fans are fools for bombast.

After all the talk then they wired him
And he took a walk with his crooked friends
And they joked about the good old days
And he recorded it on a reel of tape
He caught the mug who did in the forgery
And the babe in charge of larceny

We have to wonder what liquidators BDO will make of Duff and Phelps actions when they take over next week.  Ha-cha-cha-cha.

I’m not sure what ‘Political correctness gone mad’ means.

It means an attempt to curry favour by sucking up to the popular view which one thinks may prove to be advantageous to oneself. The self congratulatory back slappers.

The law and justice should be above that.

It takes courage to swim against the popular tide.

I heard that the 10% stat came from the UEFA site. I believe that they have a different method of working it out than OPTA (which i believe is much more widely used). So on the odd occasion it suits to use a different method…..

The popular view is to bring back capital punishment.

  8. Dena,

Would it be possible for your sister to find accommodation for herself, whilst the wheels of justice slowly turn for your nephew?

If her funds are low, can any member of her family arrange for an hotel online?

That would at least take her off the streets until the young fella’s situation is resolved.

Our ball retention against Barça, the best team (allegedly) on the planet, who we were playing in The Camp Nou; and what’s the best way for the brotherhood to cover up their super galactico criminal activity whilst looking forward to some fly-blown match down there amidst the forgotten in the 4th. tier of corrupted Scottish football?

    How droll.

Armageddon Comes To Pass as Celts Crash

    By Trim Jaynor

Scottish football’s predicted “Armageddon” was there for all to see last night as Celtic fell to a humiliating defeat by La Liga runners-up Barcelona.

While the hoops last year (with Rangers in the SPL remember) swept aside Swiss giants Sion 6-0 on aggregate, they now find themselves with only four points from three games and facing elimination from European football after losing to a team not good enough to even win their own domestic league.

This just goes to show how we need Rangers back in the SPL immediately, before the game in this country falls to even lower depths. And by “immediately” this means right now.

Rangers can come into the SPL with all games to date recorded as 3-0 wins for the Ibrox men just because we all need them so much. Their fixture against Motherwell should be recorded as a 5-0 win as they have already put two past the steelmen.

This blueprint for the Scottish game is clearly the way forward and benefits the WHOLE of Scottish football. We cannot afford to waste one more day struggling on like this. We need Rangers back in the top division NOW before the game dies, which it undoubtedly will. Half of the teams in the league are about to go into liquidation any day now so it is for their own good that this transpires.

The punishments have came thick and fast and simply must stop – everything is Craig Whyte’s fault, and the club and its fans cannot made to suffer any more.

We cannot have the diddy teams calling the shots. They do nothing for the game in this country – and even waste their time doing pointless things like paying taxes and trying to develop young players. And none of their chairmen have ever taken me out for succulent lamb – or any kind of lamb. Get Rangers back NOW.

Personally, I’d take 10% possession playing in the same league as Barcelona in a game at the Nou Camp any day of the week over for talking sake 65% of possession playing in the same league as Stirling Albion in a match at Forthbank.

  27. Dundee United reduce debts and post net profit

Dundee United’s financial results for the year to June show the club posted a profit of £1.45m, with bank debt and directors’ loans having been reduced.

Revenue suffered a 3% fall to £5m and the percentage of wages to turnover ratio increased from 74% to 76%.

But the sales of David Goodwillie and Scott Allan boosted the club’s income with a profit of over £2m in transfers.

United chairman Stephen Thompson was encouraged by the figures but urged caution about ongoing challenges.

He told the club website: “In what most people recognise as one the most difficult financial periods affecting Scottish football in many years, it is pleasing to be able to report a healthy net profit and a significant reduction in bank borrowings.

Allan left United to join West Brom in January

“It is particularly pleasing that the financial position has improved as a direct result of our long term investment in the club’s youth development policy, which produced the receipt of significant transfer fees during the year from the sale of David Goodwillie and Scott Allan.

“It is equally encouraging that astute signings by the manager and the introduction of further exciting youth development players not only allowed the team to remain competitive, but also provides optimism for further financial improvement.

“I would like to pay tribute to the manager Peter Houston, youth director Stevie Campbell and all of the coaches for their patient nurturing of our youth players, many of whom promise an exciting future.

“However, I must also caution that the current and forecast economic situation continues to present challenges and whilst the board remains committed to ensuring a team capable of producing performances on the park and entertaining the supporters, we must also ensure that a prudent fiscal policy is maintained.

“Our supporters have responded to the recent challenges in magnificent fashion, culminating in a significant increase in season ticket sales.”

Bank debt was down from £5.4m to £3.93m and United say that a further £225,000 reduction was made in July.

And the club added: “Since the end of the financial year, the club has made progress in significantly reducing its overall wage costs and this will be reflected in the next financial statements.

“A further sign of improvement concerned the audit report which last year included an emphasis of matter paragraph concerning the going concern status of the club.

“No such paragraph has been required this year, which highlights the continued efforts of the Board to reduce the club’s debt and improve the working capital management of the club.
