CRAIG GORDON is almost certainly heading for the Celtic exit when his contract expires in June.
And the 37-year-old former Scotland international keeper may return for a second spell in English football – THIRTEEN years after his record-breaking £9million move from Hearts to Sunderland.
At that stage, Gordon became the highest-priced shotstopper in British football, but Huddersfield are hoping to snap up the Hoops star for free.
The Championship side were keen to do a deal in January, but Neil Lennon insisted he needed the experienced last line of defence for the second half of a crucial campaign.
He also stated he wouldn’t mind keeping a hold of Gordon, but it looks as though his six-year Parkhead career is over following his dramatic comeback after more than a year out with shoulder and knee problems.
His former Tynecastle side are also showing an interest when the goalie becomes a free agent at the end of the campaign.
The Yorkshire outfit are planning to get in swiftly as they currently have two netminders on loan, Liverpool’s Kamil Grabara and Everton’s Jonas Lossl, and they are both scheduled to return to their clubs in the summer.
Gordon could yet be offered an extension by the champions with Fraser Forster’s season-long loan from Southampton expiring in the summer.
The Hoops will have a decision to make on a player who is earning around £75,000-per-week at the south coast club and still has 18 months to run on a lucrative contract.
Forster cost the Premier League club £10million when they signed him from the champions in 2014 and would also want to recoup some of their initial outlay for the 31-year-old fans’ favourite.
