A great keeper story. Dundee’s timely reminder

259

When Craig Gordon pitched up at Celtic in 2014, two years after his last appearance as a footballer and five years since serious injury first blighted his career, I’m sure the keeper’s closest friends didn’t believe he would play 200 games in less than four years – let’s remember, he couldn’t get a gig at Newco under Ally McCoist.

Now is he a regular international and a treble winner with more league medals than exist in the locker rooms of every player in the league outside of Celtic.  It would have been more appropriate to celebrate his 100th Celtic clean sheet on his 200th appearance with a win last night, but there was little the keeper could do about that.

This is a great story.  Well done, Craig, and congratulations also to Stevie Woods for his insight and development work.

It would be wrong to characterise all of our six home league draws this season as performances against packed defences, Newco and Hibs both drew while pressing the game, but visiting teams have an effective strategy to pursue at Celtic Park: defend deeply and you are in with a chance.

Doing what Dundee, St Johnstone (twice) and Kilmarnock have done at Celtic Park this season is not easy, if it was we would have done it in Paris, but it provides us with a timely reminder of how much work is required to finish off the season with a Scottish Cup.

My brisk walk along the Nolly today was rather pleasant in the sun.

Maybe no Liverpool v Man City game on tv would have helped too.

I didn’t attend that final, but I remember it on the telly. Think either Lou or Harry scored wi a knee/sclaff,mind I was only 7yo!

I was at the Frank Beattie Testimonial. Said to my Dad after a couple of minutes-Who’s that wee boy out there,Dad? He doesn’t look fit,he’s all red in the face already.

Aye,and so was I at the end of the game-knackered from celebrating all his goals!

Not the first time I’ve got it wrong, won’t be the last either.

I have no idea. I’d have thought that if there was no antidote, they would have immediately been taken to the medical facilities at Porton Down.

That they weren’t suggests that Atropine was quickly administered and they were taken to the local NHS hospital.

Genuinely can’t say one way or another. Apart from one thing I do know. I don’t hold much faith in comments from governments anywhere, nor vested interests.

And there’s no point even getting either of us started on the village of idiots village idiot,as hilariously pointed out earlier by !BADA BING!

Btw,still waiting for the details we discussed the other day. Quick question-do you have an iPhone? Got something for you if I can iMessage it,since your mails are screwed.

Police are on stand-by for our home game against “Newco” to be played on 29/04/2018.

  7. To the many who might have been busy on their bedsheet banners all day :

Don’t stick an exclamation mark at the end of ‘better’; it’s a statement of your deep entitled disaffection you are trying to make, not a proclamation that could suggest a smiley-face emoji.

    e.g

“…erve better.’ (furrowed brow gravity to your wee personal pschyodrama).

If Celtic and Aberdeen are still only ten or eleven points apart after the break, they’ll probably call the hun game for 21/4.

If not, your call is probably correct. In which case…

Would you take a wee massage of results beforehand so that we can ram it right up them on 29/4?

    I think I would…

Bain till end of season as first choice for me.

We can then compare and contrast in close season.

  10. If Huns game is 29th then looks like it will be Aberdeen at home on 21st/22nd. Huns 29th, Hibs and Hearts away then Killie at home on trophy day.

  11. Just seen the footage filmed by a staff member inside the Man City team coach that was attacked by Liverpool supporters.

In two words: disgraceful and unacceptable. Man City should have refused to play on the grounds that their players were traumatised. This was no isolated incident by a handful of fans. This was hundreds if not thousands participating or condoning.

I remember Rapid Vienna and our punishment. I hate to say it but Liverpool must be thrown out or at a minimum banned from playing at Anfield for a considerable period of time in European competition.

I witnessed the window on the Rapid Vienna bus being broken outside Old Trafford. As soon as it happened, my heart sunk. I knew we were going out of Europe that night.

I’d have been there, for sure. And I reckon it would have gone better than my interview in Rotterdam three years later when I effed up a job offer with a stupid reply.

In my defence,I was a single 25yo bloke and the job was in Saudi. Who knew how strict their definition of adultery was…

Although all the players mentioned by the Big Brief are decent players there’s no Paul McStay’s amongst them, Big Oli has the potential to be our midfield metronome, some one who can dictate the pace of the game and run the game. I haven’t seen enough of Kouassi to say anything definite about him and Calumns game is pass and move which in itself opens defences but I think we’re short in the midfield ping a pass change the game department.

I like Big Oli my kind of player..but then again I like Bitton which is not a popular opinion on here but he can pass a ball..

Our midfield hasn’t had the right blend this year again in my opinion to be consistently effective..

I agree,Liverpool should be thrown out, that was a more sustained attack than the Rapid Vienna attack, and we were punished.

Liverpool, despite valid complaints re Hillsborough, have form for trouble going back to Heysel in 1985 when they eventually lost 1.0 to Juventus.

This incident is conveniently forgotten and was caused by the Liverpool fans.

There were 4 on target from 11 shots; last night 7 on target from 26 shots.

I would suggest that this indicates that last night was nowhere near as bad as the game with ronny in charge.

Likewise I am in my 50s and have seen some pretty dire displays; last night tisane too bad in comparison!

As far as the calls for Paddy and Charly are concerned, he physicality of Dundee would, IMHO, have been a consideration. Moussa got a fair bit of stick from the Dundee players; injury would possibly have been on he cards for either of those players who aren’t physically big.

  24. Re the Man City bus attack: Liverpool asked fans to turn out on the route to “cheer on the team”; it was instigated by the cub and they should be hammered for it.

It was horrible judging by the videos and must have affected the players!
