A great keeper story. Dundee’s timely reminder

When Craig Gordon pitched up at Celtic in 2014, two years after his last appearance as a footballer and five years since serious injury first blighted his career, I’m sure the keeper’s closest friends didn’t believe he would play 200 games in less than four years – let’s remember, he couldn’t get a gig at Newco under Ally McCoist.

Now is he a regular international and a treble winner with more league medals than exist in the locker rooms of every player in the league outside of Celtic.  It would have been more appropriate to celebrate his 100th Celtic clean sheet on his 200th appearance with a win last night, but there was little the keeper could do about that.

This is a great story.  Well done, Craig, and congratulations also to Stevie Woods for his insight and development work.

It would be wrong to characterise all of our six home league draws this season as performances against packed defences, Newco and Hibs both drew while pressing the game, but visiting teams have an effective strategy to pursue at Celtic Park: defend deeply and you are in with a chance.

Doing what Dundee, St Johnstone (twice) and Kilmarnock have done at Celtic Park this season is not easy, if it was we would have done it in Paris, but it provides us with a timely reminder of how much work is required to finish off the season with a Scottish Cup.

    Agreed.

     

    However it will make it more difficult and probably more expensive to attract and retain quality players .

     

     

    Put simply, from a football perspective it is an additional hurdle we now face .

    PS : Just possibly this scenario has already been factored into the increase in ST prices.

    I’m certain any player worth his salt, will have a decent accountatnt in place to ensure maximum tax relief on everything they have. I wouldn’t be surprised if some players would class themselves as ‘self employed’ and untertaking ‘contract’ work.

    An interesting excerpt from the letter sent to Sevco shareholders about King’s offer:

     

    The Independent Directors wish to draw your attention to Section 6 of the Offer Announcement – Financing of the Offer. At the date of issuing the Offer Announcement the funds were not “cash confirmed” by an appropriate third party as required by Rule 2.7(d) of the Code but the Independent Directors understand from Laird that this will be addressed promptly after 4 April 2018, so that when the Offer is made the cash to fund that Offer will be ring-fenced for the purposes of the Offer and confirmed by a third party. The Independent Directors will seek verification that this has occurred

    Craig Gordon is our number one ‘keeper.

     

     

    He should play until the league is won, at least, although,for me, he should hold the jersey till form or injury indicates otherwise.

     

     

    If we sign Bain, he will have the close season to fully settle in, as a Celtic player, then made his bid for the jersey.

    I think you need to go back and read my post, it was a response to Starry having a pop at people airing their reservations on BR’s strategy or apparent lack of alternatives. I found using FC Basels success as an example of Celtics place in Europe to defend BR to be illogical, a team with

     

    Es resources doing better actually conflicts with his implied position that we are doing ok.
