Bobby Clark was the first Aberdeen goalkeeper I knew. He was thought of highly, until Jim Leighton and colleagues stepped the performance levels up a pace at Aberdeen. He has two places in the history books, one for the longest period not to concede a goal in Scottish league football, which when established in 1971 was also the European record. He was also the first goalkeeper in European competition to face a penalty in a penalty kick competition.
Back in the dark days of the late 90s I had a Celtic mug with the message ‘Records can be broken but history can never be changed: Celtic, first British team to win the European Cup, 1967’. Bobby Clark lost his European record within months and at Tynecastle next week Fraser Forster can break his Scottish record. Bobby’s place as first to face a penalty competition is his in perpetuity.
Records are harder to break than they should be. People get nervous when they approach, but it will be enormously satisfying if Celtic can sail through 31 minutes at Tynecastle without conceding.
Back in 2011 and early 2012 practically the entire CQN community was discussing Rangers impending insolvency event as an absolute certainty, but we’ve never been the most impartial community. It was not until Daily Record journos stopped applying to Our Hero for a job and suggested ‘this excrement is about to get real’ that the penny dropped in many places.
This included portions of the Celtic support, who responded to the ‘news’ with a Congo line at Inverness, at the same time forever changing the substance of jelly and ice cream; a kind of transubstantiation, if you like. This was no longer a sweet, it is nourishment for the ages.
Now the same newspaper has been authorised to run a story that there is doubt over this month’s payroll – would they dare suggest as much without authorisation? When your friends are telling you they can hear the bell toll, you know where this is heading.

macjay, only the most bigoted of commentators would associate any Celtic supporter with the IRA because a few young lads might sing a few Rebel songs.

Sorry,pal.
Profoundly disagree.
Not “Celtic supporter”,Celtic F.C.
It`s the hugely publicised banner displays, not “a few rebel songs”.
Been there and done all that, incidentally.
Still do,in fact.Amongst friends.
No,pal.
There`s a move afoot.A concerted effort.
Viz. the attempt to publicise the “roll of honour” and achieve chart success.Have a look at the English press,if that`s not too painful.:-)
Thanks for the courteous exchange.

I think you and yer pal J.O`Neil display a classic case of Myopic Idealism, your way or the highway,I personally denounce Individual Terrorism irrespective of who carries it out and how laudible the cause may seem, but I recognise we are a broad church,so your right is not denied you, your just spouting piffle!

We can’t win the league against Kilmarnock, party on CQTEN
Macjay how are you being associated with the IRA against your will. Because some Celtic fans sing rebel songs. Does that mean I am a tory or a capitalist because some of our board are or being associated with them. Utter garbage mate.

We play Aberdeen on Tues 25th Feb, so if we beat them it will bring league win forward
Motherwell can still get more points than Aberdeen, but Motherwell and Aberdeen to play pre split, so again someone will be dropping points
15th or 14th ? March could be on for League :-)
No another bloody celebration :-)
Hail Hail
Ach, forget the formatting, here’s the story. If we continue to win all our games including an upcoming visit to Pittodrie then we may well clinch the title on CQNTen weekend. But assuming we draw 1 game before then – most likely Aberdeen away – the situation will be as follows –
Currently Celtic and Aberdeen have both played 25 games and Motherwell have played 24. The respective points are 69, 48 and 47
So the maximum points that Aberdeen can reach is 81 whilst Motherwell can get to 83.
This weekend, Motherwell will lose at Tannadice (max points now achievable falls to 80) whilst we’ll beat Hearts and Aberdeen will defeat Partick).
The following midweek we’ll draw up at Pittodrie. But so too will Motherwell at St Johnstone.
On 1st March all 3 teams will win their home games – we’ll beat ICT, Aberdeen will beat St Johnstone and Motehrwell will defeat Hearts.
The position will be as follows (the figures are games played, points achieved, maximum available)
Celtic – 28 – 76 – 100
Aberdeen – 28 – 55 – 79
Motherwell – 27 – 51 – 78
So at that point we’d still need 4 points to win the league.
There’s then an international break.
If we beat Kilmarnock on 14 or 15 March we’d still be 1 point shy. Aberdeen and Motherwell don’t play that weekend (must be affected by the league cup final).
Motherwell will win one of their catch up games on 19 March at home to ICT.
The table will then read –
Celtic – 29 – 79 – 100
Aberdeen – 28 – 55 – 79
Motherwell – 28 – 54 – 78
1 more point for the title
And before anyone says if, if my granny had balls…….
well well

macjay, only the most bigoted of commentators would associate any Celtic supporter with the IRA because a few young lads might sing a few Rebel songs. The fact that you a Celtic supporter makes this association is strange.
There are hundreds of thousands of Celtic Supporters all over the world, it is a very broad Church, its unreasonable to expect everyone to adhere to a single code of conduct. There are Celts on here that I wouldn’t want to be associated with but I totally accept their right to say what they want and to support Celtic in any way they want. For the record I don’t sing songs at matches.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
The fact is that in the North of Ireland supporting Celtic makes you a bigot in the eyes of most…………..CATHOLICS – YES I REPEAT CATHOLICS.

You make my point perfectly.
I don`t pretend to understand the horror of the troubles.
But,what`s that got to do with Celtic and supporters like me who don`t understand?
Why is that imposed on us?
Really gorra go.

Suggestions on Twitter that Kilmarnock away currently scheduled for Sat 15th March will be moved to the Friday night.
That’s CQN10 night.
HT
That would be an added bonus to the CQNTEN night ,if results go the right way we could clinch the title that night, The Kerrydale Suite would need to get an extension for the bar

“Yes.O.K.
The question.
Why do I have to be associated with the I.R.A.against my will?”
Take your pick from my answers:-
a) You don’t. You merely share supporting space with IRA sympathisers, nationalists and republicans, but you feel differently about the matter.
b) It’s a matter of competing rights. If you can’t assert your “right” to not be mistakenly associated with the IRA, only by suppressing the “right” of others to promote that association with the IRA (or cure the stupidity rampant in the people who make the association of you with them, through a related common cause) then some shared negotiating of rights has to take place. Or you could just ban the opposing view.
c) It’s an open secret that we’re a club that supports Irish identity and nationalism and we have from our founding. Why would you want to change it now?
Whats the James Forrest thing abt?
Re: calculations when we win SPL
According to bbc.co.uk Aberdeen and Motherwell do not meet again before the split.
Aberdeen have played 25 and therefore have 8 games left before the split
These are: PT a), Celtic h), St J h), Kilmarnock h), Ross C a), DU h), Hearts a) & Hibs a)

Jobo,
Do you have any advance forecasts for weather on all of the days where the title can be clinched?
Will be visiting Paradise next month on one of the home game Saturdays and if you predict very cold then might have to seek out the wee guy who used to shout ‘Erzafeeshul hats, scarves and tammies and Erza macaroonbarsn’spearmintchoongum’

I agree with Macjay dismay. Celtic should have nothing to do with the IRA. In fact currently the Celtic Board are supporting huns for a buck! Sticking it to us in a grand way! Not just in the james forest description.
ryecatcher –
predict the weather? When have I ever done that? I merely report facts ;-)

Aaah,mate.
It always ends up getting personal.
Sadly.
When will the penny drop.
I don`t matter.
Celtic do.
Just checked Sky/BT ,no live coverage of Aberdeen away scheduled…
Utterly sick and tired of reading IRA shite on this blog
Just my own tuppence worth in this discussion:
I support the right of anyone to sing songs about fighting oppression.
Am not so keen on triumphalist songs of superiority and the celebration of oppression.
A lot of people seem to have trouble making that distinction in British society.

I taught in the North of Ireland for 33 years and was involved in Community Relations Education for 10 years. It sickened me but, whether I liked it or not, the Celtic top and that of the defunct club, were ALWAYS used to illustrate sectarianism, ALWAYS.

For once hope you are wrong regards forecast and 22 March
