A long six months ahead

150

One of the primary consequences of our elimination from the Champions League this week is the dearth of equivalent competition between now and when it all gets a bit serious with Champions League qualifiers in August.

This is not to say we are going to win at Easter Road on Saturday, a reversal would not be a surprise, but on-form Hibernian are never going to prepare us for challenges in Europe.  There is some value in games against Newco, who remain in the Europa League.  They could have helped the cause more by remaining in the Scottish Cup long enough to face a proper challenge.  As it is, we only have two games against them before September.

The demands which Brendan Rodgers recently referred to Arne Engels facing will drop.  The need to rotate the squad diminishes, which results in fewer opportunities for fringe players to develop.

This is shaping up to be another historic season for Celtic, but being so far ahead in the league and out of Europe will affect also commercial revenue streams.  It could be a long six months until the third week in August.  First World problems, eh?

As I keep saying, anyone who thinks BR will field weaker teams,or slacken off the pace, are clueless, and have not been watching,or listening.Loads to be done.BRs aim is to improve the players already there.Look at Engels, for example.Idah needs work.We have had very little chance to get any work done at Lennoxtown. This will be rectified.A historic Treble to be won, couple of Hun games.Supporters will not left wanting for entertainment. Not BRs way.

I really luv BR,but not tonight. One chance to win this,he picks the wrong line up.Not just my view, the evidence is there. His stubborn stance to say our best striker,is not a striker, says it all.If this is a dig at the Board,he can fek off.Not in this game.

You never did answer Clunks over Your assertion that BR was having a dig at the board!!

Not to worry, your opinion swings to fit.

Thankfully BR knows a lot more ghan you and is consistent too.

My understanding is that the timing of the Clubs receiving their UCL money has changed with the new format.

The UCL old league format was over in December and the Clubs recompensed accordingly.

Celtic have had four major UCL games since our interim results date, their final placings in the League unknown – so, we should expect greater UCL money in the second financial part of the year than normal.

With R2ngers out of the Cup and languishing behind Celtic in the League the tarnushed old firm do££ar$ may be effected.

Yet, that’s small beer, we can’t do anything about our dysfunctional partners, they are a law unto themselves.

We “lost” a decade, trying to make them relevant – the reformatted UCL season is a great time for anyone who attaches Celtic Park to Ibrox and the historical “old firm”, to realise how futile and damaging it actually is to our Club.

Our second half commercial revenue streams (which is a minor part of our revenues) will be just fine.

On the dearth of competition, the manager doesn’t see the domestic season as such…

…Brendan Rodgers on Valentine’s Day – “Last weekend, going into Raith. we’re expected to win, we should win. But then we have to perform. Sometimes, you’re given performance goals within the game to achieve.

“Whether that’s a counter-pressing, pressing, target, whatever. But every game is important here. I think players understand that.

“If they don’t initially, they will do. Obviously, it’s my job to drive that and to lead that. I know as well as anyone the importance of whether it’s Raith, whether it’s Bayern Munich or whether it’s Dundee United. Every game is a big game here.”

We have already made initial plans for the August UCL-Qs by bringing in Jota, Schlupp and getting KT on a pre-contract, this January.

We will forge ahead with team and player development by setting performance goals, over and above the result.

We can really add to player development, set-play strategies, team tactics etc…

Work on the physicality of the players, plan the summer recruitment campaign.

Lots and lots to do, including the small matter of a couple of very important trophies to be won.

  4. Can we keep the current pool and improve on it and can we keep or improve on Rogers?

That’s not what we’ve done in the past.

  5. As usual and as per previous season the 2nd half of the year generates less revenues than the first six. Unless of course you have someone sold for exceptional monies in January.

P67 isn’t forecasting doom. The account not planning outside of normality.

We all know from H1 to H2 revenue goes down sequentially every year.

It’s like telling us the sun will rise in the east and set in the west.

What H2 2025 looks like versus H2 2024 is far more relevant.

    What are you not understanding?

  8. DONNY BHOY @ 5:07 PM,

That’s a good point, we haven’t done that in the past.

Two of the best managers we’ve had in the last decade, have been BR, who had to rebuild after Ronny and Ange had to rebuild after Lenny.

However, by more luck than judgement, we had BR able to rebuild after Ange.

Which means despite the Boardroom strategy, BR was able to build on Ange’s foundations.

That has been huge for us going forward.

Brendan Rodgers is the best we are going to get and we need to sign him up long term pronto.

Yet, we certainly can improve on the squad we have, by both player development and player recruitment.

My only contact with Amazon when I’ve to sign for various parcels arriving for my daughters, never realised they were now doing sports broadcasting.

Being a sports junkie myself I have all the sports channells, gets my mind off the usuals trials and tribulations of life.

Glad to hear ye both enjoyed the coverage on Amazon, I watched it on Premier sports 1 over here in the green and misty isle and it was excellent.

We had Stylian Petrov and Shay Given who was a youth playerat Celtic became a top goalie in the EPL. and ROI. No shortage of Celtic talk with these two guys.

  10. Watched one of the best games I’ve seen this season last night between Feyenoord and Juventus with goals galore and some great football. Great atmosphere in the stadium with the home Dutch crowd giving tremendous backing to the team from start to finish. Once again a team from a smaller league sent the hot favourites packing after extra time.

    ……………

    So what?

PS, In other news….how stupid will those 7,000 season ticket holding, PLC-Same-Club-Old-Firm-Dupes and suckers and idiots, and clown world rejects etc look, who in 2016 purchased the £49 tickets [ which Kev J warned you all about the cryptic 49 ] and then the 7,000 sang *Rangers are dead * after buying Sevco tickets with Rangers £49 price on them, when the 49 number is in itself the Old Firm mark of the beast number as you now look likely to horribly find out.

But the Mod kept deleting every post with Kev J’s name on it because the Mod had neither the Integrity, nor the Gravitas to get over himself, and factor in that what Kev J said was honest and well meant, but the Mods lack of Integrity ensured that there would be no such thing as a CQN level playing field. Clique or Out.

    Mod Mibbery sucks!

The Mod and his overflowing well of like minded grassing, snitching, cancel culture, 20 posters piling onto the Prophet, Kev J, they knew not what they were doing.

Kev J would have forgiven these misguided zealots, and that would then be on him.

Never misconstrue a Prophet as a mere troll.

But you did. And now you will probably pay for it.

    Mibbees Aye mibbees Naw.

Naw meant something different in 2014 and the poor wee democratic lol more like degenerate, hurty words are unacceptable, silently praying in your own home is a crime says the filth ridden, wrang about everything, Snp who huvny accepted the Indy result for one single minute since 2014…..good GIRUT vermin.

You will learn soon that Kev J was no more than a helpful messenger who was dissed by the infantile CQN Egos…of whom there are many.

Kev J, you were correct. Stay safe Comrade. YNWA.

The Rangers are coming this time….say this 49 times before you go to sleep.

Sleeeep little Timmy….like you’ve been doing since 2012….sleeeep.

Do you think the “49ers” will thank the wonderful Celtic fans for buying £49 tickets for helping to pretend that Sevco and Rangers are the same club, and save Celtic PLC from answering any awkward questions after Sevco’s promotion in 2016?

Shhhhhh the PLC brought Brendan in as manager in 2016 coz Celliks wee insecure season ticket suckers didnae want to play anymore coz “The Ronny Roar” became a bore, emptying the top deck lol, a fist pumping lap of honour after defeating teams that cost less that £50,000 and 4 empty ginger bottles lol lol lol lol

Wee Timmy McDimmy needs an Icon [ eye con ] lol to make them feel better and stuff. There, there.

BBC Scotland tonight had an interview with Chris Jack of the record in what looked very much like his home office . Painted blue , with framed Rangers* shirts an Ibrox sign and various Rangers* paraphernalia all over the walls . An image to keep in your head if you ever happen to come across any of his football ‘journalism’ .

That would be KevJ that turned down an invite from me to update him on Res12 and correct his judgement of the folk involved.

Was that because it contradicted his narrative that has grown legs since to suit his narrative.

A troubled individual without the courage to back his opinions.

Only popped in to contact BSP but had to respond to disinformation.

What is true is that a good number of Celtic supporters did not want to see Rangers disappear including the CST leadership and to lesser extent CSA.

GB not interested in SFA reform either.

  22. Chairbhoy

However, by more luck than judgement, we had BR able to rebuild after Ange.

    ===

I’m not buying it was luck.

I think it was DD inspired because of a number of factors of change to Celtic’s benefit like new CL format and FSR Celtic had a hand in developing according to club statement and something I was told personally by Comp Sec whilst dealing with reimbursing legal costs.

If luck comes into it is Eddie Howe turning down Celtic job which meant looking at a manager with experience of managing players at a level higher than Scotland at an affordable price.

Hence quick recruitment which does not always mean best recruitment but did this time.

Also BRs profile was improving players not yet seasoned enough to be every game starters so right fit for the job for following a different policy from the one PL executed.

BR declared unswervjng dedication to making Celtic a seasoned team capable of matching Bayern.

For that he needs unswerving support from DD who promised it to him for BR to sign up.

Just how I see it trying to work my way through the narrative pre BR signing to what is observable now.

  23. Still frustrated that despite appearing to have a better playing style, more confidence, bravery and more together approach to Europe we are still OUT before the likes of Brugge PSV Feyenoord and Benfica.

We have a strong team and decent squad and had the easiest run of group games we could have had yet we still are struggling with coefficient for qualifying play off next season.

Even 1 more point would have given us a really strong chance of being seeded for Augusts play off next season. The Zagreb draw could come back to haunt us.

Copenhagen Olympiakos Bodo Red Star Zagreb or Shakhtar are potential opponents. Even Ferencvaros could be seeded above us if they did win their league and one of above don’t.

It’s mid August we need to be ready for. Unlikely any additions other than KT will have had any real bedding in time. So any talk of new players before then probably won’t make a difference.

  24. Hello again all you young rebels

I was at NSB from Jan 67 until October 73. I also played in the NSB team in the Saturday morning Civil Service league with Willie Fox and Billy Carroll and some other great players and people.

If I remember correctly, we started off in the Saturday afternoon City and Suburban League, which was a hard, hard league, as we were so young compared to the other teams just leaving the pubs to play.

The CSL was a ‘soft’ league compared to that.

    RIP Willie Fox
