A Mooy shaped hole

121

Reports from Australia that Aaron Mooy is considering retirement are not surprising.  He has one year left on his Celtic contract and his absence through injury during the final months of the season were a big part of the story behind Celtic’s drop in form in that period.  Aaron brings game intelligence to the team.  He knows when to move the ball forward quickly, and when to slow things down – which you need to do sometimes if you want to retain possession.

We acknowledged the drop in team performance without him.  His individual form when returning after an injury lay-off, as he worked towards full fitness, was also well below optimum levels.  He will be 33 years old in September and is a player who needs to be at his peak to be effective.

This is not a reason to retire, but the nature of the knee injury that caused problems in recent months may be.  Athletes get to a point when they face a trade-off: continue to compete and earn, or give your body a break.  Many play through pain, which continues even when walking, or at rest.

Whatever Aaron decides, John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan are sure to advise Brendan Rodgers we need to sign a younger, fitter, Mooy.  There are several areas of the squad that need bolstered, but that Aaron Mooy shaped hole central mid is the most pressing area in the starting 11.

  1. If Jackiemac`s link above is what RT and Corkcelt were referring to, then I have to say I saw nothing wrong with BR`s address to the support.

As well as, as they say, thanks, been a bit of a crazy time weather wise, had serious hot stuff in April, no rain when it’s the rainy season, lots of rain the past few weeks, thankfully no foolds here, but elsewhere mega problems, lots of water on dry land, washing everything away, garden is a problem, esp trying to grow stuff in clay, and I really mean clay, but it is what it is, the next few months are supposed to get seriously hot, hotter than usual, but we will cope, it’s what we do.

Missing the football big time, normally never watch anything but Celtic but would watch Outer Mongolia just now, it’s that bad, up again at stupid o’clock, cat to the vet, the Mrs had a strop and has changed vets, canny tell her, tried but just gave up, it’s no worth the hassle.

Anyways, the weekend is coming up so time to relax and enjoy, the bonus being every day is a day closer to seeing the Celtic play.

Have a new thing I am working on tho, making rings, happy with them, they are getting better by the day, I should have a few rebel and Celtic ones soon, they are not quite good enough yet, but working hard on it.

    You take care mi amigo

Foreign players comimg to Celtic must be absolutely dumfounded by the Scottish media’s attitude towards our club . Not to mention the ‘peculiarities’ of our referees.

Living in the North of Ireland and supporting Celtic is now quite embarrassing. You are seen as either a bigot or a bit quaint. The last few weeks have been tough. Football fans here now support M. U. or Liverpool. It is seen as being open-minded and mature. Scottish football is basically a laughingstock. It is seen as slightly better than Irish League football. The Irish Newspaper virtually ignores Scottish football. Yet, Celtic manage to attract some top players and managers. Why? Well, all I can say is that it is the remnants of that old romantic vision of an oppressed people expressing themselves against the odds. In that way, I welcome Brendan back. In fact, I think he is actually quite silly for coming back. It is a thankless task. Celtic are NOT a big club in terms of football today, a sad fact. Oh well, I will have to follow them, as I now have no choice at my time in life.

Sleep tight, Celtic supporters. I will take little interest in this site as I see how the MSM has managed to manipulate the Celtic support. A house divided, etc. Watching Brendan’s interview was quite sad as you could see how nervous he guy was. I now wish him well, after initially praying he would not get the job, a poisoned chalice if ever there was one.

  10. I wonder if the SFA match computer is aware all or most of our bhoys will be

Away for a few week for the Asian Cup. We will soon see .

  11. I think practically everyone on the site will Support Rodgers, for the Club to succeed, he needs to succeed so we are all in the one boat.

Some Supporters are still shocked by the manner of his departure at a critical stage of Season and the fact he was prepared to take critical Staff Members with him as well.

I think he should tone down the charm offensive, Actions speak louder than words, a few exciting purchases will get fans on board and the litmus test as ever is winning games.

If the team performs he will be revered, it’s the way of Football.

Celtic are a big club by any measurement . Turnover, Wages , Infrastructure, Training facilities, Fanbase. Brand, Reputation.

Don’t take my word for it. Refer to global financial firm KPMG.

It is the league we are in that is the ” problem” .

That is why European football is so vital.

What is more concerning is the paragraph:-

“Living in the North of Ireland and supporting Celtic is now quite embarrassing. You are seen as either a bigot or a bit quaint. The last few weeks have been tough. Football fans here now support M. U. or Liverpool”

As a club and support we need to live in the now , perhaps that would help address the above..

  17. Good Morning Celts – Champion Day To Be A Tim…

Brendan’s interview was interesting yesterday, the telling things for me…

He said he was pleased to be back, his family loved Glasgow and he intimated he had unfinished business and wanted to carry on from the seven trophies won and to do better in Europe.

He thanked Dermot and the Board for his appointment.

He said Calmac had flown out to Mallorca to meet up with Brendan, that they had a meal and that was one of the main reasons BR wanted to come back. He obviously holds Callum in high regard and liked where Celtic are as a Club now.

He talked about the the signing of Odin Holm, he stated that OTH was scouted by the club, that Michael Nicholson had a framework in place and worked closely with the recruitment team, it was very different to the previous set up and he was looking forward to working closely with Micheal and Mark.

Domestic football and being the best in Scotland is Celtic’s bread and butter but the aim is to be competitive in Europe.

All in all what we expected and what we wanted to hear – roll on July when the real preparations start.

    Hail Hail

  18. Kyogo not in the away kit ads and he seems to be taking lessons from Ange on how to give noncommittal answers about his Celtic future.

Scullybhoy – Eff the haters. The community of Celtic fans who have taken those boats across for an all-dayer are some of the best. CSCs sprouting up all over the place. Lots of new generations with a love passed down. True fans. Not the Sky-fuelled, down the pub sorts you get everywhere and lots of angry huns who want to demean our achievements with snidey remarks about the quality of it all.

Dont get too close is my mantra. Love the wee guy but Ange can have him for 25-30m fee (still peanuts to EPL) and we’ll reinvest.

  23. KJAM,

3rd season Ange is historically a sh*tshow in his career. Glad he’s gone and we’ve freshened up at the right time.
