A journalist friend in Norway tells me Jo Inge Berget is a traditional no. 10, not a striker. We need both. Kris Commons fills the creative roll almost exclusively, we need someone to share the burden, but we still need a strong, penalty box striker, who can stand up to the pressures of Champions League football.
Best of luck to Tony Watt, best of luck to Standard too, who I hear have put a lot of skin in his contract. Belgium should give him a better chance of fulfilling his potential than anywhere in the UK. It’s head down and work hard time.

Just under 14m
Virgil, Pukki,balde,derk, johannson .. Who else ?
Would that even be over 8m in fees alone.
Think lennon said we didnt pay over 2m for pukki, balde or derk.
Sorry st … see you’ve already answered that one!

Gary. Usually about 30 k a week min plus about 6m
We sold vic for 12.5 and only 1m spent on griffifths so far
We can afford it if we reduce the squad of duds. Derk Balde mcgeogh pukki stokes etc etc
Don’t write off Pukki just yet…………………
I believe he will flourish under Ronny.

Paul what did your journalist friend say about Berget??
On the plus side he was highly thought of at Molde, scored some European goals (CL qualifier against Basle and two in Europa League) and scored one of the goals when Norway u-21 beat England 3-1 in 2013 European Championships.
On the minus side he couldn’t get a game in a bad Cardiff side. In saying that Lustig was very poor in first 6 months with us and improved dramatically the following season.
I reckon he’ll be a good signing……but far from convinced!!

22 Steven Mouyokolo, free from Wolverhampton Wanderers, Jul 2013[BBC]
05 Virgil van Dijk, £2.6m from FC Groningen, Jun 2013[BBC]
17 Amido Balde, £1.5m from Vitoria Guimaraes, Jun 2013[BBC]
If Haangeland can hang off until our CL qualification is assured, he’d be a solid replacement for £8M man VVD. very experienced ball playing CB.
Hooper being touted down south – don’t rule us out, CL a must though.
If Forster wants to go – £10M – CG is an able replacement.
No movement for incomings until CL is assured – no CL, no major spend.
Makes perfect sense to me.

Possibly but not as a goal scoring striker, he’s not a 20+ goals a season player
H&S is being used as a control method
The best Celtic can do is a cheap version of the amazing Barca from 3 years ago, whilst we are handicapped by the big countries self preservation Club.
A Funny guy, I certainly don’t believe all that he said, he certainly says a lot of Truth.

So Ross McCormack is too good a player to play for Celtic then?? ;-)
Fulham just paid 11 million for Ross McCormack ………….
JoethinkstheyAREnuts
If the rumours are all to be believed, how do people think we will fare in the CL group stages (should we get there) without…
Fraser Forster (to Southampton)
Virgil van Dijk (to Southampton or Swansea)
Efe Ambrose (to Burnley)
Kris Commons (to Leicester)
James Forrest (to Spurs)
Tony Watt (to Standard Liege)
Georgios Samaras (released)
This would effectively leave us with a threadbare first team lining up something like this:
Gordon or Zaluska; Matthews, Lustig (out of position), Mulgrew, Izaguirre; Grifiths (out of position), Brown or Biton, Johansen or Kayal, Boerrigter; Pukki or Stokes, Berget or Baldé
…and very little experience in reserve to cover any injuries. We would need to bring in at least six experienced and accomplished players to get the squad anywhere near it would need to be to even start to compete at CL level. And there just aren’t that many players of the requisite level available in our price bracket who would actually consider playing in the SPL, unless we are going to adopt a policy of plundering the best talent from our SPL rivals… a policy which would widen the gap between us and the rest, virtually guaranteeing the SPL title year on year for some time to come, and giving us the opportunity to try to qualify for the CL each year.
But would it work?
Unfortunately, the signs at present are that Ronny is going to be spending most of his transfer budget on non-British players, which I fear is a very suspect policy. We need to have at least a solid core of Scottish (or at least British) players, with some quality foreign talent around them. Such is the nature of the game, the environment, the culture and the climate in Scotland, that it is quite common for foreign players not to adapt to and settle in the unique world of Scottish football.
They are just my thoughts, for what little they are worth…
…but it could be worse. We could have a squad like the team currently listed at the bottom of the Scottish League’s second tier.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/scottish-championship
Adding up the transfer fees of the above mentioned projects would easily pay for a decent striker and the adding up the wages of the same above projects would easily pay for a decent strikers wage
Are we looking for a lucky midgie?
Looking forward to talking pure Celtic on Wednesday in Sean Og’s, with Noel90, Ard Macha and Catach.
Received SFTB’s apologies and Resolution,on the back of a €50 note, which will be voted on and spent behind the bar.
I love rumours. Definately one of my favourite albums.

i read a bit about how we lost so much money under MON
Of course we didn’t sell all our best players under MON either
so i guess we could have cancelled out a part of that debt by selling Larssen and co
(a bit like the current policy of selling our best players)
KevJ got it in one “you don’t have the answers” in fact you never seem to propose any answers/solutions. BTW you know nothing about how/if I vote kinda sums you up, don’t even havethe courtesy to ask before you post your assumption Hail Hail Hebcelt

I think we are too quick to write off playsrs.
Pukki has now scored more goals pre-season than he did all last year.
Lets see how this one pans out……………………..eh.

tony watt on the other hand only had a wee name
Very good mate , I deserved that :-))
Teemu Pukki, IMO, will be a Revelation for Celtic.
The guy was brutally honest when he was saying the 2nd season will see the best of him, well words to that effect.
I expect to see that shy smile a lot this season, howevaah………..

Will be delighted if he bangs in the goals for us this season but his career to date suggests he’s not prolific. But as you say let’s wait and see.
IMHO,
Balde – will never fit into RD style – you need to be able to control quickly, pass & move.
Forest – I’d let go, will never be fit enough, any money in is good business.
Ambrose – I’d let go, Mulgrew is a CB being played out of position.
Forster – a no brainer, CG is a good keeper.
Commons – give him a 2 yr deal with an optional 3rd.
Big Joe
the new signing (another big Jo?) has scored 36 goals in the last 6 years
maybe we cant write him off, but equally maybe expecting 20 plus goals might be a shade optimistic
Just back from ma hols, and trying to catch up what’s been happening the last 2 weeks.
From what I can gather we’ve been pumped out of Europe, sold all our top players, signed lee McCullough as captain, and RD has been spotted raking through skips for gingies.
Close?

As an added incentive I’ve decided to offer some prizes for the top 3 come the end of the season. The winners will each receive items of their choosing from the Official Celtic Webstore to the tune of
1st £100
2nd £75
3rd £50
Or alternatively, winners can choose to donate any winnings to a Celtic charity of their choice.

Slightly hysterical post.
Our goals should be to keep the back 5 together or minimise the impact of departures. I am sure they will all be subject to speculation which is the price you get for good purchases (never recognised on here though).
Money should be on improving the top line.
And please, until Scotland starts catching up in terms of football, no obsession with home grown. Too many false dawns on that front with younger talent who fail to make it.
It’s a global talent pool now. We’d be mad not to keep tapping into it.
Was Kris Commons a prolific scorer before he came to Celtic?
ThingschangeCSC
KevJ wrong
If we sign Jeff Louis (IF…) my guess is we’ll punt Kris Commons.

Either do something about what you perceive to be wrong with Celtic or STFU…
Five years of your messiah complex on here and not one iota of your Celts for Change P2 ( The Jungle Returns) just you telling us that we are all dumb sheep, insulting your fellow Celts on a daily basis, way to go Jungle…
All mouth nae trousers as ma Maw used tae say…
I think we are gambling with Kris Commons he says he wants to stay and would like a new contract but the longer the situation drags on the bigger the risk we have of losing him.I dont understand why we appear to drag our heels in these situations. H.H.
Starry Plough
i did expect someone to come back with a comment like that, but i expected someone to tell us that Henrik was not prolific
i could of course respond that, in terms of goal scorers for every henrik (or kris) we sign a dozen murphys and biggins.
so the question would be, is the new signing the next henrik or the next murphy?
Probably somewhere in between? but where exactly?
Now of course we can all hold our tongues and not have any opinion on any player until he has left us, but its fitba and its all about opinions..
Better voicing opinions about new signings than about Gaza or Independence anyway?
