A number 10

936

A journalist friend in Norway tells me Jo Inge Berget is a traditional no. 10, not a striker. We need both. Kris Commons fills the creative roll almost exclusively, we need someone to share the burden, but we still need a strong, penalty box striker, who can stand up to the pressures of Champions League football.

Best of luck to Tony Watt, best of luck to Standard too, who I hear have put a lot of skin in his contract. Belgium should give him a better chance of fulfilling his potential than anywhere in the UK. It’s head down and work hard time.

  7. Sorry, just could not let this go. Below is a post earlier this morning from KEV J.

    Johnny Collins was a ‘quality’ Celtic player, one of the best that I have seen in the hoops.

    I know that he is a quality guy, despite some of the ‘cheap’ slings and arrows he gets on here form folk who wouldn’t know a ‘quality’ Celtic player if one came up and booted them on the erchie and, he was the victim of a back-stabbing scenario from Hibs players led by the odious ‘heid’, definitely something wrong wi folk who have ‘heid’ in their name – not to be trusted. Collins has an admirable Celtic stock about him, despite having to play for his beloved Celtic whilst the team were suffering under a series of bad managers. Yet, despite the lack of ‘quality’ in the Celtic dug-out during Johnny’s spell in the hoops, for me at least Johnny Collins ‘quality’ always shone through. He is massive at this juncture for our club. imho

    The bit i’m particularly interested in is the character assassination of Heid and on reading this I immediately thought that’s not the Gary Caldwell I know.

    So the internet being a wonderful thing i thought i would check to see if any newspaper articles backed up Kev J’s assertion that the Hibs player dispute was all down to the “odious” Heid.

    The reason i couldn’t find anything to back up Kev J claims was that Gary had become a Celtic player in the summer of 2006 and John Collins was appointed Hibs manager on the 31 Oct 2006.

    Now given Kev J says Heid can’t be trusted, this information suggests to me that maybe just maybe its Kev J who can’t be trusted.

    Kev J, I will keep a keen eye for you’re retraction.

  8. It amazes me how so many people know what so many people are earning?

    I worked with one guy “Paddy Kelly from Govan” and his biggest fear was getting knocked down buy bus in Helen Street, on a Friday and his wife picking up payslip.

    Do you think ANY footballers lets the taxman know what he earns? If the P**H the DR states was true there would have been no need for EBTs.

    In the offshore industry (Scotland) how many guys let their ” back to back” know what their on?

    Wee Fra,

    Not been on for a while so thinking about your sad loss but have always been in my thoughts.

    If you can stretch it to 5 points in the CL, a third place finish and a few games in EL after Christmas I’d bite your hand off for it;-)

    *that would do for me tae. the last time we qualified for the last 16 we were humiliated home and away. As for last season’s group stages an utter embarrassment.

    IMHO Neil Lennon didnae leave because of budgets, he was packaged as a result of a poor season. Please don’t anyone come back with clean sheets and chasing an unbeaten League campaign, the latter led to failure to blood our youngsters unless injury caused him to do that. If I was marking his report card it would have read “should have done better”.

    Da Doo Ron Ron and management team are here now to bring through the lhads from our heavily financed Development team.

  14. First we have a signing last night (Berget), then a new rumour this morning (Louis) and the floodgates open. KDS rumours has us interested in 2 young Danish internationals. A 6’7″ striker, Makeinok of Brondby, and a left back, Knudsen of Esjberg.

    In other news 65 pence for a Pineapple in Aldi’s Rutherglen, 8 Euros for the parched, baking beach dwellers of Spain.

  21. Kris Commons:

    a) His goalscoring last season was excellent;

    b) He often shows creativity;

    c) He is often the cause of play breaking down;

    d) He is much less effective in CL games.

  22. Celtic would need a shed load of luck and a very favourable draw to get 5 points in the Champion’s League IMO.

    We are becoming a bit like the old Rosenberg… Show up every year to make the numbers up…

    I don’t blame the Board. We need a bigger league or we will just continue to drift further from the clubs playing in bigger leagues.

  23. Too many people worry about the following.

    How much a player costs

    How much a player earns

    How much a player can be sold for

    How much a player is sold for

    All money issues. Think about what they do on the pitch. Every player in our squad is replaceable. I don’t ever panic when a player is sold.

    If they go they go. 95% of the players who leave by choice regret it.

    Celtic will always roll on.

  25. Bergen definitely seem like the left forward attacking midfielder type than a striker. Seems like a Samaras replacement. In that case his record is reasonable. We’re obviously going to be playing like most continental teams with a 433/451. You can do that with number 10s but when you meet packed defenses a number 9 sure would come in handy.

    On 20 August 2013, Brøndby IF announced that they had accepted an €3.8M offer from a Russian club on the young forward.

    Makienok reportedly said that ‘Money isn’t everything’ and decided to stay at Brøndby IF.

    According to multiple Danish newspapers the forward turned down a weekly salary of €34K from the Russian club FC Terek Grozny.

    And I’m sure when you are not on the internet you are capable of doing so. Whereas when you come on here you come across as someone who is ‘board’ and looking for attention.
