A number 10

936

A journalist friend in Norway tells me Jo Inge Berget is a traditional no. 10, not a striker. We need both. Kris Commons fills the creative roll almost exclusively, we need someone to share the burden, but we still need a strong, penalty box striker, who can stand up to the pressures of Champions League football.

Best of luck to Tony Watt, best of luck to Standard too, who I hear have put a lot of skin in his contract. Belgium should give him a better chance of fulfilling his potential than anywhere in the UK. It’s head down and work hard time.

    Big Joe

Don;t see the obssession with money myself. If we can get a great player for a pittance should we not buy him because he must be rubbish? That seems to be the attitude of many on here. He didn;t cost much so must be mince. Really don’t get it.

Ronny is just aropund now realising what he needs. I like the way he is operating. Would have been very easy to panic buy when getting the job. He has even realised now that he needs another coach. He is taking a very methodical approach.

  3. Sorry to see Tony depart

    Fantastic player and prospect

    Obviously good enough to land

a 5 year contact one of Belgiums top clubs

    uninspired by our bored

    and their lack of ambition

we should be trading up slightly

but we get a player out the game for

2 years amazing goalie back in the day is he now ?

And a 6 month deal for a player who hasn’t played

much recently but he does look a good player

We are playing Champ league qualifyers

Not good enough in my opinion

    15-20 mill spent

Our midfield is weak as piss

    get the finger out Peter

mullet and co 2, how many players are there out there in world football that have every attribute going? A handful maybe. Commons is our best bet for a goal, whoever we are playing against, and one of our most intelligent.

Do you see Pirlo charging around the field or outrunning many?

  5. garygillespieshamstring on

Regarding the hibs player revolt, my view is that if the chairman had backed john Collins and binned the players behind the revolt then his club might not be in the mess they are in now.

God forbid that a manager should expect players to look after their fitness and work to improve their technique.

    Madness I say.

  6. KevJ

    “That fair enough?”

Of course it is. I suffered similar misfortune myself but lots of friends, CQNrs and family kept me supplied with tickets. So I did not miss as much as I might have done.

However, during your time on here, in the latter part of WGS’s time and throughout Neil Lennon’s period, that is not the side of the story you emphasised. You presented it as a voluntary bhoycott and that, even if you had the money, you would not have been going as that was supporting a downsizing Board.

You do not agitate on here for the honourable target of discouraging people who cannot afford it to spend money on SBs for Celtic. Instead you agitate for people who can afford it and who do want to go, to see some light, that you now admit to being not the real reason you had to stop attending.

You talk often of seeing Celtic sides which contained players like Peter Grant that you scapegoated but still went to see. However, when there were players like Naka and Boruc and Telfer (and I’d guess a few others) whom you admired, you claimed to be bhoycotting on a point of principle because of downsizing.

    Doesn’t square does it?

I am afraid that, like your pals Kojo and TSD, once you have embroiled yourself in a lie, it is hard to keep track of what lie was said. Those of us who tell the truth find it a little easier to remember, even at our advanced ages.

I’m going to ignore the who’s lying/who’s a hun debate (although the ‘I’ve met ya/no, you haven’t’ one made me laugh).

Someone (sorry, cant remember who) posted about a possible target Makienok … if the stories are true, not sure we could afford him, bu,if we could, he looks interesting … decent stats… and, just going on youtube, surprisingly mobile for a guy who is 6’7″ (although, also noteworthy on the video, is the lack of goals from headers …)

although not everyone who is tall is necessarily good in the air …. I think of our own Amido Balde … although 6’4″ (or thereabouts) prefers to have balls to his feet, or over the top for him to run on to

Have to say I am surprised we did’nt try to buy Andrew Robertson from D Utd. A 20yr old who ticks all of our business model boxes. He looks a very good prospect, was within our budget at £2.85 million, already a Scottish Internationalist and would have challenged Izzy for the LB spot.

I can see him joining a much bigger team than Hull in the coming years.
