A real big team would rest players at Ibrox

194

Celtic have two bounce games coming up ahead of the Scottish Cup Final: Ibrox on Sunday then Hearts at Celtic Park on trophy presentation day.  One of the benefits of winning the league early is being able to rest players and prioritise ahead of the Cup Final, we should do this now.

Newco will do their upmost to convince their fans the ever-present gap is closing by doing all in their power to win the game.  I might feel different on Sunday afternoon, but let them do their worst, this game does not matter.

We have to be fit and ready for Hampden.  Whatever ails Kieran Tierney, he should not be risked.  Instead, Emilio Izaguirre should be given the jersey and if Leigh Griffiths is even remotely close to fitness, he should play.  We like to think of ourselves as being a ‘big team’.  If we are, rise above local bragging rights and aim for history.

  1. Been wondering if Thompson and Red, Red, Red have been appointed to aid Clancy to know what he must do on Saturday.

Did I hear correctly on Saturday last when McCann was asked to comment of a refereeing decision, he replied “John got that correct.” John being Beaton of course. Obviously, both on very friendly terms.

Indeed, continuity for the new manager, who doesn’t inherit a squad riddled with holes and no cover in key positions.

I think its called a plan.

  4. There is no chance Neil Lennon won’t play what he considers to be his strongest team. When it comes to Sunday, most of us will agree with that. He will feel a win there will surely enhance his chance of being the new manager.

  5. Alternatively we could be doing things on the cheap with players who weren’t good enough this season and who have all been out the team because they couldn’t be trusted.

It’s fine to have your opinion, but without even trying to justify it I assume you are just saying it out of a dislike for Rodgers.

Like you, didn’t get one either. In fact don’t know anyone who did. You could have been in that scheme a hundred years and still share parity with someone who joined this season

  9. Conspiracy theorists would have Sevco attempt to injure our better players before the final.

They have little to lose but may help to stop the treble treble.

Conspiracy theorists would have Levein play fringe hammer throwers at Paradise to injure our better players before the final.

They may face some disciplinary action by the referee, ( or possibly more liable), the compliance officer post match, but neither would affect Levein’s starting cup final eleven.

Neil Lennon will continue to be judged on his response to the various “challenges “ in the next three games.

The only folk I’ve met who have got a ticket are people who rarely attend any Celtic matches but are up for the big ones.

Might be that folk know that I’m pure beelin’ at not getting a ticket so they don’t want to tell me that they have!

Sunday’s game means everything to them and nothing to us.

The two clubs statuses in a nutshell.

Barcelona lost to Celts Vigo a few days ago.

If they get through tonight they won’t care a jot about this previous result.

    As for giving Sevco momentum?

After they’ve paid Close Brothers and Ashley, succumbed to a proper seeded team in Europa qualifiers, and sold nobody … they’ll need more than momentum.

And so the downsizing begins if the rumours about Mikel and Izzy are true. Our ambitions are surely greater than this. Hooper has also been mentioned with various posters on social media saying this would be fantastic. Some of the same ones also saying Jose would be a mistake. Good god in heaven…..

  14. Hooper, oh dear, released by Sheff Wed, why? Yet some Celtic fans delighted.

Our last player released from a Championship club, we payed over a £1M for ( so i guess we should be thankful Hooper is free), Hendry, he’s not good enough either. More hard shoulder signings than slow lane one’s, imo.

I think Rodgers tenure at Celtic is over rated.

I said so (on here) when he was in his pomp.

To rank him alongside Stein and O’neill is ridiculous.

In the meantime we’ve got a Cup to grab.

Celtic dafties? Same ones that are delighted that we are offering Mikel and Izzy new deals?

  18. No-one who misses out on a Cup Final ticket will be happy but;

The Home Cup Scheme was designed to tempt people to buy tickets for games that they may not attend but are happy to pre pay for in return for a chance at a semi or final ticket . Very attractive to us ex pats with ST

That in itself disenfranchises people with less means so we are already being unfair

If you weight the draw on how long you have been on the scheme, who will join in future?

It has to be a free draw

My only complaint is that if you get lucky in the semi draw, you get into the final draw. Double unlucky if you didn’t get to the semi final. Maybe weight it to guys who missed the semi?

Overall, it is a business play by Celtic and I think is preferable to the clubs, buses, Uber fans who got all the tickets in the past and sorted their mates by their own rules

The ole silly season starts earlier every year…

It has to . There’s a helluva lot of silliness to cram in!

  22. ONENIGHTINLISBON

Aye mate, we’re all Celtic dafties.

But real dafties don’t call covering the Celtic squad downsizing with relentless cynical Celtic posts in the dawn of another treble , and the new dusk of eight in a row.

We have at least three known development full backs signed Ralston Gomez and Gutman we are anticipating cover for Keiran Tierney who when fit, plays every week, and I widely anticipate a top drawer Right Back we didn’t get last year.

We need cover for the new RB, and Lustig is a low risk extension and excellent as back up, as unlike Tierney he won’t play every week.

Delighted Celtic are making moves to plug gaps in our squad for next year, and not leaving the new manager fire fighting all over the squad.

The only other player we have signed in Maryan Shved is not downsizingeither, Gary Hooper is enevitably linked to Celtic because he played for us, thats what SMSM do, but is he signing?

  23. Over the last few games, our players will have been aware that there could be no slip ups , now the league is won, two things might happen. They relax a bit and play better, or relax a bit and lose enough of their edge for Sevco to take advantage of.

We have been brilliant at winning must-win games. It might be hard to motivate a few of them to give their all. Fringe players, on the other hand, might fancy their chances of winning a Cup Final place.

I’d be tempted to bench our Captain and play Mcgregor, Rogic, Ntcham.

Someone from on and/or off the field will be intent on hurting Brown.

  24. Gr888t Evening Bhoys

    ?????????? & ????????

Mikael Lustig deserves and has another season in him, can cover both right back and CH – read that when Brendan left, it was Broonie, Mikael & Neil Lennon, that pulled the team together ( Broonies words at weekend)

Scott Sinclair, although poor this season (with 17 goals scored, same as James Forrest on less games) has had his 1 year option taken up, – again good value, and if a bid does come in, can earn us a return

Like Bada – I think ( on what I have seen very recently) Emilio, is finished at Celtic first team level – I thought he was very very poor in his last 2 appearances, maybe more games would help ? But there is major decline there

    Gary H88per – no thanks

Gutman, has not even played a game at equivelant of Junior level in Scotland

I am nearly ? In 100% agreement with your analysis

    Only thing I would add

Champions league pot money drastically increased when Brendan was our Manager, helping us hit the £100m turnover

    But

Worth an increase in spend to be achieving this bonus pot on a frequent basis

( better squad, / gives increased chance)

NORRIEM sorry pal, but if we are playing in the champions league lustig and izzaguire will see us crucified, don’t forget players in the champions league are much quicker on the ball and pass the ball a lot quicker than spl players, anyway im dreading the thought of gary hooper, and to think celtic are trying to persuade izzaguire to stay, where is our ambition.hh.
