A week for leaks

1020

This seems to be a week for leaks.  I hear one club recently refunded two investors to the tune of £500k each.  Don’t worry, it wasn’t Celtic, and I hear the club involved are one of the most financially secure in Britain.  I also hear the national broadcaster rejected a former presenter’s request to return to the fold.

Still nothing from the SFA, who were responsible for issuing associate membership to Newco Rangers, on the leak from the club’s board meeting that the Association expressed alarm that earlier information had leaked from chairman, Malcolm Murray.  Mr Murray recently instigated an investigation into the relationship between Craig Whyte and Charles Green, the nature of which could invalidate Newco’s associate membership.

Far from being alarmed at leaks, the SFA should be keen to see full disclosure.  Reports suggesting otherwise are alarming.  I am sure the SFA president has already demanded openness and clarity…….  Relax, standards of corporate governance at the SFA are as high as ever.

I am also sure the leak from Newco was not a shot across the SFA’s bows, providing a glimpse into what looks like some murky conversations which people at the Association could have much to lose from being exposed.

I seem to recall someone asked you before, but I never read the end of the conversation… so, since there don’t seem to be a lot of people around… do you mind if I ask you about your name…. I have often wondered.

    ………………………………..

Mike, I’m amazed and flattered that you’ve “often wondered” about my moniker. I’m not telling you anything unless you buy me a pint.

P.S. I met your buddy torontony in Glasgow at the BobM hootenanny and he won’t tell you either unless you buy him six.

Torontony, make sure the sixth pint is on the bar before you spill the beans pal:-)

greenyinfurrafenian, well he is a bit of a cart horse. He can pull the broken bricks of the victorian lavy to the dump when it all goes titsup at mordor.

  11. Believe me I am no fan of Hearts FC, but surely if they manage to avoid administration until after the end of the season, then that is entirely their own business.

Why are other clubs getting involved? What business is it of any other club?

While I am on the subject, what business is it of anyone on here if Jon Daly wants to transfer from Dundee United to the Huns?

    Dundee United – – – – – – Jon Daly – – – – – – The Huns

I used to work for the Japanese many moons ago. They used to say, “twisty trust no -one – but be sure to “check with own eye”

I’ve seen that guy with the beard and red suit many a time with my own eye. In fact he once left me an empty shoe box on Christmas morning, which my financially stricken parents explained to me was actually “action man deserter” (now known as Minty Moonbeams I believe).

It’s not just about posting. The guy is being slaughtered with all manner of personal abuse just because he is talking to The Huns with a view to possibly signing for them.

I reserve the right to condemn such ad hominem attacks on such a flimsy basis. Who has he mugged? Who did he rape?

Why do we care who may or may not be signing for them, unless it is a current Celtic player.

I am not telling people not to post. I am challenging their premise once they have posted, which I am surely entitled to do.

  21. If Daly does sign for the Huns they will get an easy time from the press for breaking the spirit of the so called ban.

The punishment was the most pathetic punishment I’ve ever seen but expected as it was the Huns in charge of the game dealing with their own.

I believe yesterday McCoist was saying they wouldn’t be signing expensive player, surely Daly is on SPL plus wages? Who signed him?

Ignore the press, let the Huns have it.

  26. CELTIC’S kids are celebrating a fourth straight Double as they continue to dominate the Scottish youth scene.

But John Kennedy insists Tony Watt’s golden goal against mighty Barcelona meant as much as any silverware to the academy staff and players.

The Hoops’ development coach was the proudest man in the Parkhead stands when the teen hitman stunned the Catalans in the 2-1 Champions League win.

That capped Watt’s rapid rise from the youth ranks into Neil Lennon’s first-team squad.

Kennedy insists seeing Celtic’s kids like Watt, Filip Twardzik and Dylan McGeouch making the first-team is just as important as winning trophies.

He said: “Seeing Tony score against Barcelona was the most satisfying moment of the season for me.

“Any time a player you have worked with steps into the first team, everyone is willing them to do well. When they do it on the big stage there is nothing more satisfying for everyone in the academy including myself, Stevie Frail, Chris McCart and Tommy McIntyre.

“It’s a long process and there is a lot of hard work involved, but the goal is to produce players for the Champions League.

“When you do that, we get the exposure and it’s a real reward for all the hard work of everyone at the academy.

“It’s been a good season in terms of winning the league and Youth Cup and seeing more boys in the first team.

“We want to keep building. Last year, we had Tony, Dylan McGeouch and Filip Twardzik all making their first-team debuts.

“This season, Joe Chalmers, Jackson Irvine and Callum McGregor have been there or thereabouts. The manager has rebuilt the side since taking over, but he has also involved a lot of academy boys.

“The likes of Tony are now looked upon as first-team players. Whenever he goes in at Champions League level, it’s great exposure for the academy.

“Our No1 aim is developing players for the manager’s team, but winning things is important too, because it’s a big part of what Celtic is about.

“We need to make sure these boys are mentally right to make the step up. When you are in the first team, it’s all about winning, so they need to be prepared for that.

“Playing in cup finals and league deciders is all part of the preparation for making the step up.We prepare them to deal with the pressure of being expected to win every single game.

“At Celtic, with the exception of the Champions League, you are expected to win every competition you enter.”

Kennedy, 29, retired after a long battle with injury four years ago and has made great strides in coaching since moving from his scouting role in July 2011.

But he is the first to point out that Celtic’s recent success at this level has been built on solid foundations.

Head of Youth McCart oversees the production line, while senior coaches McIntyre and Frail offer experience and expertise in abundance.

Kennedy said: “I’ve learned a lot in the last few years. You have ideas when you start but you evolve as a coach and a person.

“I work beside great people. Stevie, Chris and Tommy are three who have helped me a lot over the last few years and I’m learning and progressing all the time.”

Kennedy has noticed the current trend of young managers being given the chance at big clubs but he insists there is no substitute for experience and has vowed to learn from the best as he continues his climb up the coaching ladder.

He said: “David Moyes is still a young man compared to Sir Alex Ferguson, but the wealth of knowledge he has is vast.

“I spent a day on a pro-licence course with him and learnt so much from listening and speaking to him.

“Neil Lennon speaks so highly of Sir Alex and it’s great to have someone you can turn to for bits of advice. He has given the manager advice and I hope he then passes that on to me!

“But I speak to the gaffer a lot and I learn from his own experiences.

“He’ll always share his advice and knowledge and it’s great to have someone like that to learn from.

“Long-term, I’d love to take the step to first-team level at some point, but I don’t see it happening for a few years.

I’m happy where I am. However, at some point I’d like to go and be my own man and make decisions.

“You have to get the break and opportunity, but it’s something I would look at in the future if it came up.

“The grounding I’m getting here is perfect.

“The club has been great with me since I finished playing and I will always be grateful to Chris and the club for giving me that chance.

“I’ve had a great time at Celtic in various roles and I hope that lasts for a long time yet.”
