A word on Odsonne and Kyogo

173

Ange, can we have a word?  Ever thought of trying Odsonne on the left with Kyogo through the middle?  When Odsonne first broke into the Celtic team, it was on the left side of the forward line, with Moussa Dembele leading the attack.  In the three years since Moussa moved on, Odsonne has occupied the central position.

When we first heard of Kyogo we heard he was more of a wide player, or second striker, a bit like that guy we signed from Feyenoord in the 90s.  Henrik Larsson was stuck in a peripheral striking position until emerging from Tommy Johnson’s shadow (cough) during season 1997-98.  It was a change that transformed Henrik from a place on the Feyenoord subs bench into legendary status.

It may sound ridiculous to want to tinker with the attack after we score six goals but only one came from Odsonne or Kyogo and not every team has a goalkeeper like St Mirren’s.  It feels inevitable that our man from Japan will eventually make the central position his own.  I would switch them now, even during games.

The only surprise about the racist incident directed at Kyogo yesterday was its coverage in the media and statement from the offending supporters’ club.  The entire squad has an opportunity to respond in the most appropriate manner possible on Sunday.

  2. Without wishing to indulge in patting myself on the back, I made this point before the AZ game.

I suggested that moving Kyogo out of the centre position would dilute his effectiveness. Ange isn’t

daft. Kyogo was through the middle and Eddie was on the bench. I will continue to trust the manager.

  3. I can confirm that we have already transferred £1000 to Sean’s Trust and we have received a tweet of thanks from Linda Croker reading:-

“Many thanks to.. for the amazing donation of £1000 via a football predictor competition with CQN and Sentinel Celts. This will go towards Christmas for a lot of families. 💚I’m very touched. Thanks too to crc for nominating us. The Celtic support have always been there for Sean’s Trust and we appreciate it. Faithful through and through.”

We hope to donate even more next year.

  4. The bus video is seemingly the Westwood Sevco from EK,Madhun’s old bus……allegedly…so easy to get these referees and their local Sevco pub mixed up

  5. BADA, love any negative story about about Madhun, but for the sake of accuracy did Madhun not drink in the Salmon Leap over in Calderwood?

My mate worked with him in the same school before he (Madhun) made it to the top of refereeing in SevcoFA and can confirm that he WAS a season ticket holder at Ipox! As if we needed confirmation.

  6. A current ( no, not THEM) midfield containing the new Rogic, the emerging Townsend, the permanent McGregor and the rejuvenated Christie has a chance of creating chances against ANY team.

Add to that a top `keeper in Joe Hart, a greatly improving Ralston ,a developing Welsh. an electric Furuhashi, a dangerous Abada (Bing) , and an occasionally brilliant Edouard and you can see why we have hope in our hearts.

PS I have to add that Starfelt and Taylor are, IMO, much better than many seem to think.

  7. big wavy

the tactic of lumping diagonals at our full backs has worked in recent seasons due to our rigid shape and lack of press (even under Rodgers in his last season)

Under the new tactics, we swarm all over the opponent with the ball , hence nullifying the pass.

i think our press will cough up more free kicks (already been seen in recent games) so the Huns will get to throw in more static balls but hopefully from much further out as out front 3 commit the fouls.

i think we have improved at defending dead balls so hopefully this is not as bad a situation as last year. Plus we will be 5-0 up before they get out of 1st gear…….

  8. Celtic may have 32 players listed in the squad but about 10 of them are young guys who are prospects and most need loaned out. We need a centremid, leftback, left winger and forward, particularly if eduard and Christie depart. More senior players like bitton, barkas, griff and boli need punted too if anyone is willing to bite. Hopefully a busy week both comings and goings.

No chance ange changes style, he has stated that toomany times to think differently. Whoever plays will be high energy or they will be out. The game plan will be to take the game to opponents regardless of who that may be. No sure things in live but I would be surprised if AZ, sevco or any other team will play a celtic team that plays the game in front of them. Ange loves stretching the game and turning the defenders towards their own goal.

  9. Great comment on The Scums Den,,

“Don’t know why all the fuss.Every song we sang at the game was much worse”

Anyone ever in any doubt about this mob,the blog about Kyogo on there is mind boggling.

  10. Love some of the posts on here about who we should be getting rid of.A few weeks ago,the list was a lot longer with the likes of Rogic, and Ralston featuring on every one.

  11. Coneybhoy,

Good points fella. I think there’ll be a battle of the presses both ends of the field – their top 3 of Kent, Morelos and either Wright or Roofe targeting our defence and us doing likewise.

If we can get our possession and intensity right (and bank on their wee knackered legs from visiting the other side of the planet) then we can unleash hell…

Will look very different from last year’s duels..

Rangers have indefinitely banned the fans who made racist chants and gestures about Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi.

The supporters’ club, which they were members of and travelled with, have also been banned from receiving tickets for future games.

The video you posted was really good. I think we have a real gem in Ange. He really shows up the Huns and doesn’t give them an excuse. Said it’s not about education but human decency.

  14. Fair play to Rangers – banned the culprits and the supporters club. The latter is a bigger deterrent i.e., bad eggs ruin it for everyone

    ……

Good point, but as well as ralston has played I would argue like Taylor he gets into a lot of good positions and the final ball can be poor. He also lacks pace. Neither if these issues have change albeit that he is performing better than I thought he could. Its ok when against so.e poorer teams but we need better delivery when we work out fullbacks into good positions. Pace will also be key against better opposition. Unlike ralston no one questioned Ragic’s ability but his application was questionable.

What both players have in common was that they had not been performing for about 3 years prior to this season. How long do you give players?

  16. I like several others on here prefer to see Kyogo playing in the middle of the front line, hes capable of running off the Huns back line…and basically tormenting them with goals and/or assists…however…IF Ange plays him wide left at Ipox….Kyogos presence, pace and tenacity MAY well make TavPen refrain. from making many forward runs…likewise on the other side, as young Abadas pace and tenacity etc…MAY also prevent the Huns full back venturing too far forward as he would like ?

So IF Ange plays Kyogo out wide, I can (for THIS Hun game anyway)…understand ” WHY” he MAY do that ?

Whit do I know anyway ?

    LOL

    —–

Thank you for posting that – Ange speaking from the heart. He says diversity enriches – he is so right.

I echo what others have said about the swift action of the Ibrox club and the sanctions laid down – it would be churlish to say otherwise, although they seem unwilling/unable to prevent tens of thousands chanting “up to our knee…..etc” in their stadium on match days.

Let’s hope lessons can be learned on ALL sides. Unfortunately we will ALL be subjected to numerous OO displays of hatred on our streets in September – makes you wonder what is the point and what kind of lives these people lead that makes religious bigotry so important to them.

  18. If the transfer rumours are to be believed, Ange likes a big target man in the middle on the end of great crosses as an option. The Greek fella seems to fit the bill.

For that reason alone, I think Kyogo will remain on either side…

  19. Can you imagine trawling through FF during the paralympics – not for the faint hearted; scum is scum.

  20. As ever it’s Utopia or total disaster here.

The Hearts Loss & the 2 Midgie games and this place combusted, I actually read here that Ange would be gone by September, 3 Euro games & 2 home games later against teams we would normally expect to beat & we are World Beaters.

I believe we are in a good place, doing well and likely to get better, I believe we are going to win the League.

I also believe there will be bumps on the road,

The game we are playing is exciting & I’m loving it, but it is risky, next 2 games for different reasons will be the acid test as to how far we have come.

I think so far Dom & presumably the Board are doing very well in bringing in new recruits, 4 of them are already first team picks & that is impressive by any standards, keep going ghuys and as already stated by others we urgently need to offload 5 or 6.

However the stand out achievement that has me really buzzing is the incredible improvement in form of last years so called Duds.

Rogic, Christie, Ralston, Walsh, Turnbull, Taylor, CalMac, Eddie, every one of them have shown a marked improvement over recent games.

There is joy & there is hope but as I say there will be bumps on the road,

Like many others, I find the OO an embarrassment for Scotland. I try to reassure myself by remembering that , in a population of 5 million, thenumbers marching are very much a minority.

    Cheerio for now.

Hope all is well and that you manage over to a game or two this season.

  24. There is no alternative to Ralston & Taylor, Starfelt & Welsh for our two important games this week – so let’s get behind them.

We have six from the following to choose from to start: Rogic, McGregor,Turnbull, Soro, McCarthy, Christie, Bitton, Forrest, Abada, Edouard, Kyogo, Ayeti & Montgomery.

On paper that eighteen looks OK, however if Christie & Edouard leave afterwards, we must replace them and add another full back and centre-back – if we don’t injuries may take a significant toll in the next four months. Can we get another four in within a week? – on past form it seems unlikely.

I agree those who actually march are a minority, however they are representative of a much bigger constituency. If you want to know how big, try banning these marches and wait for a tsunami of a backlash, when ‘the chips are down’.

Those who march are the ‘strormtroopers’, behind them are millions who lend implicit support.

Can you imagine an anti-Jewish marching organisation, or, an anti-Muslim one, or, an anti-English one?…..oh but wait a minute!!!!.
