A word on Odsonne and Kyogo

173

Ange, can we have a word?  Ever thought of trying Odsonne on the left with Kyogo through the middle?  When Odsonne first broke into the Celtic team, it was on the left side of the forward line, with Moussa Dembele leading the attack.  In the three years since Moussa moved on, Odsonne has occupied the central position.

When we first heard of Kyogo we heard he was more of a wide player, or second striker, a bit like that guy we signed from Feyenoord in the 90s.  Henrik Larsson was stuck in a peripheral striking position until emerging from Tommy Johnson’s shadow (cough) during season 1997-98.  It was a change that transformed Henrik from a place on the Feyenoord subs bench into legendary status.

It may sound ridiculous to want to tinker with the attack after we score six goals but only one came from Odsonne or Kyogo and not every team has a goalkeeper like St Mirren’s.  It feels inevitable that our man from Japan will eventually make the central position his own.  I would switch them now, even during games.

The only surprise about the racist incident directed at Kyogo yesterday was its coverage in the media and statement from the offending supporters’ club.  The entire squad has an opportunity to respond in the most appropriate manner possible on Sunday.

  1. Larsson through the middle you say ? August 97.

As early as his 3rd or 4th game, up at Perth, when we won in league cup on the midweek in extra time, then on the saturday partnered with Darren J.

Watch team sheet first 2 minutes, then the goal on 9.

The dreadlock flying goal, know the one i mean, iconic.

Celtic crowd in fine voice as well.

he had some game that day, and if you did not know him before (some were on his back form the first 2 games) then you certainly knew him after that game.

as an aside we were in the mixed family stand , great value taking 3 under 16s with me them days, and we were sitting next to saints.

the dad got mightly pissed off the longer the game went on as his blue clad boy maybe about 6 kept joining in with the celtic songs, a wee pleasant memory.

Well said Ange. This guy is the real deal. We definitely have a gem in this Manager.

    “Not representative of our club”

Can anyone in Scotland believe that they had to brass neck to say that ?

Utter vermin from the bottom to the bottom.

  5. Berwick at tynecastle, Larsson through the middle with Jackson , hands up who watched Blinker that day and said he is better than the swede ? only me ?

    —————

Of all the changes to Celtic, the most intriguing is surely this new-fangled attack of theirs. To spend 1.25m on Jackson, who will soon be 31, left more than a few of us stunned, and certainly some Hibs fans. Beside him Henrik Larsson looks energetic, if not always sure of his passage, but he is certainly doomed to unfavourable comparison with the more natural goalscorer, but stricken, Jorge Cadete.

Nonetheless, these two began this rout. Jackson first headed and then stabbed the ball home after Darren Collier had saved, followed by Larsson scoring from close-range after a right fankle in Berwick’s defence.

  6. I feel very funny before AZ. The first leg was marvellous. I still feel reserved about our chances. AZ are good. I can only describe the feeling as ‘hope’.

    #wedon ‘thate

  7. I have to disagree with the “racist” label which Paul, Celtic FC and the press are following with the “back of the bus songs” video. Pat Crerand once said that the NF had no chance of gaining support in Scotland in the 1970’s because we already had religious bigotry. At its worst, Scotland is not racist just bigoted and sectarian, sick and pathetic. There are racists in Scotland, probably proportionally more than in many countries, we have been raised under anglicisation after all. But our roots are intact and we still draw on our ancestors’ standards of hospitality. Fundamentally this is a question of respect and the glaring lack of it.

Ange realises that these stories damage Celtic and he decided to speak to Celtic TV. He obviously expressed his condemnation of the chant directed against our Japanese player but did not join the party line with the headline-grabbing word “racist”. The story also damages Celtic because we lose our focus and waste our energy being outraged, Ange knows this too. He also sent out the all important message that we must protect Kyogo. Off and on the field.

Those hun scum were not only venting their bile on Kyogo because he is from another land and culture , but because they are shit scared of what he might do to them starting Sunday . Bigotry , heavily laced with fear .

  9. Parkheadcumsalford,

Big Kris always gave his all for Celtic. I hope he goes to the very Top of the fitba game. I love his attitude – the attitude Every Celt should have no matter the circumstances.

  10. As long as we play well, I’m not that bothered whether we end up in Europa or Conference.

Money wise we will probably make more out of Conference, and might possibly win it. Having said that I do want to win the tie but if we don’t than no big deal.

Secondly and I know I am out of line with most views, as long as we are not beaten in Ibrox, I’ll be happy.

We will grow & get stronger as the year progresses,

Keep tabs on them & we will pull away as the season progresses.

  11. Tim Malone Will Tell on

I was at Crystal Palace on Saturday – Ajer was excellent IMO.

I hop we have a sell on clause?

  12. David Moyes has built a really good top six side at West Ham. He was unwanted by most of our support whenever his name came up at times. He is a top manager. They trounced us pre-season, they wouldn’t have such an easy ride now.

  13. Tim Malone Will Tell,

I doubt we will as he was in the last year of his contract, you never know though.

The Huns are Boumsongers when it comes to players being traded….. Most people are wise to their shenanigans now.

Not any Hun Managers in situ elsewhere to buy their players now.

    Jon Dahl spelt it out.

  14. Tom McLaughlin on

    PETEC

The insertion of a sell-on clause and its value has nothing to do with the length of contract remaining.

  15. Tom,

Just my opinion that Celtic have received 17.5 Million for Kris, Superb stuff btw, and I dinnae think we will have a sell on clause with such a Good fee for the guy in the last year of his contract. I really hope I am wrong. :))

  16. Feeling Ange won’t change much on Thursday. Two goals up,another puts a right dampener on things for them.He thinks the way we play,we will score.

  17. Inquis… I forgot about him.

Even more of a certainty that we get a sevy ref.

Why is there not a clamour from the fans to pressure Celtic to ask other clubs in the league to vote on referees saying which team they support like they do in other countries?

We would 100% win more games and cups etc.

  18. Watching Hammers game.Red card for Leicester, shocking lunge.Ref ,couple of yards away, clear view, waved play on.VAR told him to look.Straight Red.

    Good Ref,this guy,so can’t always be easy.

  19. jackiemac,

Genuinely never heard that song before.

    I Like it.

I’m struggling with the lyrics with the new sonics, Aidan is likely not taking the pee out of moi….. and disnae know them yet – Being partially deaf isnae great either.

    Ange is the Man.

Good stuff Dominic, we have a corner to fight.

  20. Watching most teams (that like to play football) playing out from the back. This is not new although it would seem like it. I remember Big Jock blowing a gasket at Evan Williams for horsing the ball up the park rather than play out to Jim Craig in the Lions last game. In fairness he was right because I don’t remember ANY team playing a high press against Celtic back in the 60s/70s

  21. TET

He played in the lions last game v Clyde. Ronnie Simpson started and was immediately subbed by Williams cos basically he was getting to old. He was probably 75 at that stage

  22. 3sy

Much obliged for the answer, the beer is getting to me, I do in the depths of the old grey matter seem to remember something about Ronnie getting subbed, thanks for the mem jog.

  23. Big Jock was in a bad mood that day. He charged out the dugout and berated wee Bertie for sitting on the ball….said he was disrespecting the Clyde team. Might have been Berties last game as well if my memory serves….I was about 12 at the time

  24. the exiled tim

The match was against Clyde back in 1971 I think, at Parkhead. May maybe. Ronnie was on the pitch at the start of the match, and then immediately subbed by Evan Williams. Celtic won 6-1, so the Lions could still play a bit.
