    Yes.

    Why not ?

They`ll be raring to go after their liberation from R.D.

And a helluva lot to prove.

    Give them their head.

I think next season….I will be wearing my Jimmy Paige star flares as i strut up and down London Rd.

Still trying to get the matching jacket:)

Season over for a week….Withdrawal symptoms already….writer’s block rag-dolling me for a sold week.

Only Lightnin Hopkins, Hendrix, and Jimmy Paige can save me.

    Again. No thanks.

Charlie I’d keep for cover. As Weeminger said, he quite versatile but I don’t see many first picks he’s better than.

The SMSM are in fire fighting mode.

The smoke emanating from Res12 and the Offshore Game, has sparked into life.

They are trying to contain the flames by smothering it.

This will only lead to it reigniting on another site.

Sky were first to allude to Res12, in an effort to control the agenda, but only after they got wind of the ads.

They portrayed it as Celtic looking for Euro money.

The Herald have now jumped in with a skewed interview, aimed at dousing the impact of TOG report.

It will become increasingly more difficult stop the coming inferno? #redadair

  5. One of the best passers of the ball we have is Chico.A rarity in our team recently.Certain players will flourish under Brendan, some wont.Because they did not under RD,is no yardstick. Some have been on saying Scott Allan should go !!!!!!!!!.Based on what,I have no idea. Why not Christie?.Its just a scattergun approach.I prefer to leave it to the experts of which there are none on here.

  6. Brendan’s no goat it!

    Muldidni ? Wtf ?

Build the team roon Commons & Muldini ? Wtf ?

The old, failing, cronyism-clique who’ve all been

present, more often than not on the feck-up days

    of the last 2 managers.

    Broony ?

    Commons ?

    Stokes ?

    Muldidni ?

Is Brendan a puppet brought in so that

season tickets would be shifted – job done ?

    Hmmmmm………?????????????????????????????

Are you seriously saying you think CM would be better than SJ if he was in the 1st team in his correct position, and on-form?

Obviously with any player there are instances where the 2nd choice on form, may be better than the 1st pick off form. In an ‘on paper’ exercise like this you have to go on the basis of 1st team all on good form.

  8. Btw…..see if the seson tickets are sold oot

don’t be expecting the hierarchy to jump into

the ring and fight the Res:12 corner.

Ye see, the hierarchy have done they’re job

in getting all yer ST money off yeez.

Now, the hierarchy will be found on far away

beaches and, exotic golf courses away oot the

road of the raging battles for justice that will

be waged in the Res:12 court cases.

    Duped by the charlatans…..?

    tick-tock….

  9. There’s been a bot of discussion around the need to ‘help’ The Griffo out by getting in another top class striker given his lone feats last season. But I was struck by some of the stats in last week’s Celtic View which quoted the following scoring figures/scorers for the period of our greatest ever team winning the second ‘five in a row’:

65/65 season Joe McBride 31 goals/30 apps. (wow!!, and injured in December)

    66/67 season Stevie Chalmers 23 goals/28 apps.

67/68 season Bobby Lennox 32 goals/28 apps. (WOW!)

    68/69 season Willie Wallace 18 goals/32 apps.

    69/70 season Willie Wallace 16 goals/30 apps.

What is striking (pun intended) about those figures is of course that in three out of the five seasons no-one scored over thirty goals, the ‘magic’ target assumed these days for your main striker.

Obviously last season Ronnie won a watch with The Griffo avoiding both injury and suspension and scoring 40 goals, but it seems to be just as important to have scorers spread throughout the team if you are going to be successful

Incidentally, last seasons spread of goals/appearances (in all competitions, 57 competitive games) was as follows, as listed in the Celtic View:

10 goals/27 apps. Tom Rogic (despite a lengthy time out injured)

9 goals/24 apps. Kris Commons (no bad return for a guy who hardly featured?)

8 goals/43 apps. Nir Biton (despite not being his best season)

6 goals/23 apps. GMS (in and out of team)

6 goals/25 apps. Dedryk Boyata (depiite long term injury)

6 goals/23 apps. Callum McGregor (depite long spells out of team)

6 goals/11 apps. Paddy Roberts (arrived January, only payed last couple of months)

4 goals/30 apps. Stuart Armstrong (out a fair bit)

    4 goals/42 apps. Mikel Lustig

    4 goals/41 apps. Joe Hansen

Many years ago, a friend of mine was doing some work in Glasgow….Teacher, fillling in.

The kids were bored, he said…ok today we are going to write a short essay…..usual groans from the kids.

However, he said to the kids, we are going to make it interesting.

You can write whatever you like, any topic you choose.

Wee Tommy puts his hand up….Sur, can ye no gie us a clue whit tae write about.

Teacher says….Well Tommy…what things do you like to do at the weekend…..Tommy says…ah like fitbaw sur.

Teach says…ok Tommy, why dont you write about football.

    Wee Tommy nods.

An hour later, Teacher collects the work from the kids…goes through it, all good imaginative stuff.

Gets to wee Tommy’s paper, and it says: ‘Ah dont like Rangers’

PS Does anyone share my view that our expectations of Brendan are maybe a wee bit high?

Not expecting much from him with regards to Europe this year..

Winning the Europa next year and Champions league the year after that is not asking too much surely?

You’ve got to take yourself out of the Ronny mindset – I find several dunks in the sink work. If not, sit under a tree and meditate him away.

Ronny’s gone, and his brand of football has hopefully gone with him.

Look, Charlie is getting on so I’m not going to sit here and say ‘Let’s build the team around Chazza’ because that would be faintly idiotic. I never understood why he got POTY, then again the only recent POTY I ever saw sense in was Emilio, so less said the better.

Mulgrew, along with others, was part of a midfield diamond that worked. That it worked is beyond doubt. Look at it – 4-3-1-2 or 4-4-2, whatever you want to call it. Commons at the pinnacle, Charlie usually inside left or centre holding – this midfield was the bee’s knees. 18 times he appeared there, clocking up 49 points out of 54 in the process. That is a stat Ronny would have killed for. It’s also something he ignored from the get go, foisting on us the terrible spectacle of 4-2-3-1, or the sideways descent into hell as I call it.

I know Brendan liked the diamond at Liverpool, that’s why I very much hope he can bring it to this Celtic team – no need for a complete overhaul (although defence is one area where the terms ‘clearout’ and ‘spend’ can feature as liberally as you like), just set it up and go. Then add/change as you go along.

Of course I’m getting all this out now in case Brendan decides 4-2-3-1 is just dandy, thank you very much and we get horsed out of Europe by a bunch of Scandinavians – I want to enjoy the summer.

    How might Brendan effect change?

Let’s look at what Martin did in 4 key games in 2000.

It can been argued that MON was fortunate in the quality of players he inherited. More fortunate than Brendan will be.

In the first league match of season 2000/1, a 2-1 win at Dundee United, Martin had only added Joos and Chris Sutton to the group already at Paradise.

Gould, Stubbs, Valgaeren, Boyd, Mahe, McNamara, Lambert, Berkovic (Johnson 64), Petrov, Larsson, Sutton.

Subs Not Used: Kerr, Petta, Tebily, Burchill.

    Goals: Larsson 37, Sutton 66.

Note: Mjallby and Moravcik already at CP, did not feature!

By Demolition Derby (6-2) at end of August, MON still only used Joos and Chris Sutton as new faces in the team.

Gould, Valgaeren, Stubbs, Mahe, McNamara, Petrov, Lambert (Mjallby 36), Moravcik (Boyd 54), Petta, Larsson (Burchill 87), Sutton.

    Subs Not Used: Kerr, Berkovic.

    Goals: Sutton 1, Petrov 8, Lambert 11, Larsson 50, 62,Sutton 90.

By the end of November when the currants saved a little face in the awful 1-5 reverse at poundland, Rab Douglas, Didier Agathe & Allan Thomson had joined Chris & Joos.

Douglas, Boyd, Valgaeren, Mjallby (Mahe 46), Agathe, Thompson, Petrov, Moravcik (McNamara 46), Petta, Larsson, Sutton (Johnson 86).

    Subs Not Used: Gould, Healy.

    Note: no Lambert in team!!

45% of the team were Martin’s additions and he must have had a significant shock that day. I know I did…

By Saint Stephen’s Day, the last game of 2000 we were back up to Dundee United for an excellent 4 nil romp, Lenny and Vega now in the team and 6/11 or 55% are Martin signings.

Douglas, Mjallby, Valgaeren, Vega, Petta (Smith 80), McNamara, Petrov (Johnston 80), Lennon, Agathe, Larsson (Moravcik 80), Sutton.

It seems Martin intended to transition the team slowly, but spurred on by the reverse at poundland in late November, he quickly shored up the defense with Vega and bolstered central mid with Lenny. He also bought John Hartson to strengthen his attack.

More than half a team in less than 5 months. With a strong rankers(IL) in or around and challenging, he built up a decent advantage by the turn of the year.

What will Brendan do, something similar?

It should be remembered that Martin had the advantage of changing his team ‘in-flight’ in 2000. Brendan won’t have that luxury, restricted to players already signed by the close of the transfer window this.

He doesn’t have much room for error.

Although he does have the significant advantage of already having a league winning team and a much reduced threat from his nearest rivals. They will still offer a challenge and be ready to take advantage of any transitional problems as his team welds together.

I see ready-made strength in the existing squad: Craig, Erik, Kieran, Patrick and Sparky. Easily first team picks in the short to medium term.

Depending on how he plans to set up, he can count on Mick Lustig and Broony if they can both present fit and ready. My view is that these two guys have a short shelf life.

Around the squad we have Jozo, Calum McGregor,Nir Bitton & Tom Rogic who can do a job and be relied on in SPL.

Too early to comment on the new Norwegian lad and we have some promising loanees plus some right good prospects emerging from development squad(s) but they are only ‘squad’ at the moment

I no longer see a real future for Charlie, Kris, Jo Hanson, Efe, Dedryck, Stokesy and Jamesie. Thanks for some really great memories guys.

Where does that leave Brendan now?

5 strong bankers ( sic) and 2 solid reliable experienced pros that can slot straight into the team. The others mentioned only as available back up to the squad.

i see we need 4 maybe 5 straight into first team pros. Not projects!:

1 Quick central defender with minimum 50/80 senior games

    2. Sitting mid, teak-tough and seasoned leader and winner, minimum 150/200 senior games.

    3. Classic number 10 pick a pass and chip in 15 goals, minimum 100/150 senior games.

    4. Striker with existing average of 15/20 goals and minimum 150 senior games.

    5. Wide player for either flank, two feet, pacey ( ex Bayern :-)

Not factored in back up for both full backs, but expect that existing squad can cover in short-medium term!

I expect Brendan’s first competitive game to see 2 new faces introduced and 4 maybe 5 phased in by end of September.

    Nae bother Eh? :-)
