Unfortunately I have no memories of that day due to the fact that I wasn’t born until December of the following year. My father told me that everyone in our block was out celebrating after the game with the Rangers fan next door bringing out beer for all. I recall going to an evening at St Anthony’s primary school (my school) with my father to watch a film show of the final and Scottish cup final, must have been the mid 70s. No videos or downloads in those days just a projector.

Hello again all you young rebels.

My goodness there is some amount of old farts on here right

    enough, and here’s another one.

49 years ago today i was walking my wee da along the Paisley

rd west to catch his Gorbals bus to Lisbon, he had his Celtic

scarf proudly round his shoulders to let all the stickies know

where he was going, me, well i had already met my wee princess

and decided we were tying the knot so money was very tight and

as i had started working life as an apprentice joiner i was doing

odd jobs after work for our wedding , i’d been covering the old

tenement doors with hardboard as that was the in thing to do

then for friends of the family and the patriarch was a big Irishman

from Cork, i decided i would finish off the last door and then watch

the game that night at his families house.

It was an admirable plan but with the excitement of the game and

the possibility of our club being champions of Europe and probably

too much whisky the final whistle sent us all into a kind of madness

and the big ghuy aimed a punch at my newly finished door and

proved that hardboard was the wrong name for that type of door

covering as his massive fist went right through it, but who cared,we

were the first British club to win the big cup, anybody could fix a door.

Happy birthday COWIEBHOY & HANA SKYE.

  3. I hope I haven’t chased you off, Tractorbhoy by saying that we are probably, no must be, related.

I don’t remember much about the game as I was only just turned one. We lived in Janefield Street and Canon Michael was one of the priests at St. Michael’s. I remember when it was too wet for PE, he would bring in film of the Leeds semi final and we would watch in the school hall. He was a scary man (would put the fear of God into you, literally), but had a bit of cool about him as it was rumoured he would train with Celtic. We had the Lisbon game on cinefilm, in the house. I remember it in colour but I couldn’t tell you if the film was b&w or not!

I also remember having a footballer Jinky keyring. Why Jinky? – cos you couldn’t get the ball off him.

I’m sure I played against AC MILANDA in the Saturday morning league.

    …………………………………………….

I tried to hitch hike it to Lisbon but got lost in France (theme for a song?)

Got back to London the day before the game and got the bus from Waterloo, I think, overnight.

At that time I lived in Carmyle Avenue, just up from London Road.

The driver dropped me at the top of the avenue even though it was a direct bus to Glasgow, on Hamilton Road about 7 in the morning.

I had a wee sleep and remember it was really long day until kick off. After the cup presentation I ran up the road to my sisters waving my Celtic scarf over my head.

The street was empty apart from me. It was almost ghostly.

When I arrived at my sisters I was greetin’ like a baby!

I remember the next day I was up early and ran to the papershop to buy the newsies.

Breakfast was a wonderful experience reading the reports and the front page stories. I remember the press was as not being biased against us at that time, though that may have been down to my youth and inexperience.

Walked in to Celtic Park to see the Bhoys return with the cup. What a night.

    What memories!

Thank you Celtic and thanks Mum and Dad for bringing me up in the faith.

    God bless you.

  7. I see we are linked with Tom Carroll who is being freed by Spurs.

I’m sure I saw him play a few times and thought he was no bad.

  9. Thomas James “Tom” Carroll (born 28 May 1992) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Tottenham Hotspur.

He plays as a deep-lying creative central midfielder, and is particularly valued for his high passing percentage accuracy and creativity.[3] His style of play has drawn comparisons with former teammate Luka Modrić.[4]

    Height 1.70 m (5 ft 7 in)

First time I played the CQN golf day everyone was a stranger. Played with Vargas Shampoo and Timmy7. Great guys.

Brilliant day, got home around midnight, several pints better off. Later heard Timmy7 got home to a frantic Mrs Timmy7 and local police on alert as she’d suddenly panicked at dinner time knowing only that her man had left at 8am to go somewhere in Fife to meet people from the internet!! :-)

Interestingly in contrast Mrs BlantyreKev looked disappointed when I got home, and that expression seems to have stuck.

My first meeting with any CQN’ers was Pablo’s funeral in Falkirk.

There seemed to be hunners of them.

MWD introduced me to loads of them and to say I was quite overawed is probably an understatement.

I remember when I was going to the Hootenanny in Glasgow a couple of years ago and my daughter warned me I was meeting strangers off the internet.

Thank God for this place and Paul too.

Seeing some aul bloggers back contributing is great, nice buzz about the place.

Noticed that an MSP is suggesting that the OB@F bill should not be repelled in the aftermath of the Scottish Cup Final aftermath.

Now as the Bill was designed(?!) to tackle sectarianism. Maybe he might want to highlight examples of where the act was breached.

Maybe he could give examples of where the Police are utilizing it with reference to Saturday’s and subsequent events.

Embdee in this chap’s constituency that could fire in a letter.

I’d be interested to see how it’s being used.

    The Rangers fans singing perhaps?

The Rangers inflammatory statement on Sunday perchance?

    I was 8 also.

My mother was ill at the time so we took the telly through to her bedroom – shoogled the ariel a bit as you did in those days to get a passable picture. I watched the game with my dad and sister camped around my mums bed. I was in tears at half time so got down on my knees and said my prayers – it must have worked, so you can all thank me for turning things round.

Sadly all three of my viewing companions that evening have passed away, so its always a wee bit poignant when I think about it.

But what a great day to be a Tim.
