The photo above, of queues out the door of the Celtic Ticket Office this morning, are a consequence of what happened 49 years ago today in the photo below.
It is impossible to overstate the cultural, sporting and social impact of this event on millions of lives. You are in for a year of unadulterated indulgence. Enjoy every minute of it and if you meet a Lisbon Lion, make sure he hears what he did for you.

I have still got the Inter Milan jersey. I got MAZZOLA’s jersey. He scored the penalty which was soft!
Tommy, can you give Winning Captains some tips for the 5-a-sides while he’s there :)

Interview with the new assistant manager from his time working with BT at Liverpool
Hi Tommy, in my opinion you were the man of the match in Lisbon. They reckoned you could hit the ball at approx 70mph. Do you think you could still hit it at that speed today or maybe a bit faster? :-))
Tommy
when you came back to Celtic park with the European cup ,do you think big Jock organised a coal lorry to take you round the track, just to keep your feet on the ground!
Tommy
Thank you for everything you and the other Celtic players did for us both in Lisbon and over the years. We walk tall as Celtic supporters because of that.
Tommy Gemmell
Thank you for a lifetime of memories.
Hail Hail
Right Bhoys that’s me for the moment. I hope you all get a season ticket and get behind the Bhoys.
I have a feeling that next season has the potential to be very special indeed.
My last comment is on Ronny Deila. He has left the new manager with a great crop of players and some not so good. However the good ones are young and can be a great team. Christie, Tierney ( he reminds me of somebody), Griffiths, ARMSTRONG – good player, and others.
Well done Ronny and good luck son!
Hail Hail Celtic Quick News!!!!
Hail Hail Tommy
Hail! Hail! Tommy Gemmell. God bless.
Hello this is WEE BGFC (aged 13)
Tommy Gemmell, you are a LEGEND! I played a janitor in my Christmas school show in St. Ambrose Coatbridge and he was called Tommy and I had to make up his surname. I made his surname Gemmell!!!!!!! Grow young and play for Celtic again! :)

Kickinthenakas @1,49,
Paul was a new born 49 years ago today.
Read you post and you and your dad probably walked
along the street we lived in.
We stayed in Legbrannock Crescent Newarthill
Paul’s mum and I went to the 8.45pm Mass in St Theresa’s and the PP Fr Gillan said the Mass in just 15 minutes..
he was hoarse from shouting and cheering
we stayed across Brannock Road from the prefabs, being the first house in the Street, our house number was 1 Legbrannock Crescent I’m sure our paths must have crossed often in those great days.

Hello – did Wee BGFC break the blog?
Fifty years ago today, Tommy Gemmell and the other Lions gave me a gift …a beautiful unexpected dream…from the moment I woke at 6 am, through my first flight, the game, the result, the post-match celebrations in Lisbon, the forgotten flight back, the hurrying over to Celtic Park to see the team parade THE cup…Wow!! It was only when I was walking back home it began to sink in, the dream was over and reality was beautiful…Celtic were Champions of Europe! All season we were singing “we’re on our way to Lisbon, we shall not be moved”, it was written in the stars!…And here we are half a century later still celebrating that stylish victory and the manager and squad of players who achieved it. We are very fortunate to be born Celtic supporters…Thanks to every single person involved in the whole Lisbon experience, especially to Giant Jock and the Bhoys…

Worked alright for me TD, ta
Evening all.
Had a very “odd” afternoon. Had a call from my Dad’s Home. He was taken to hospital around lunchtime. He is 93 and a veteran of Lisbon 49 years ago. Just had word back that he is back in the Home, although he signed himself out…………Don’t know whether to laugh or cry out of relief or continuing anxiety. I think of those he was with in Lisbon, he is the only one still supporting the Celtic in this world.
MR Gemmel you are an awfy braw lad….a million thankyou,s for the memories ….
Braw. Did you have a special way of tying your boot laces …so they widnae flee aff???
Braw. Smiley thing…

Chris Davies sounds like a good appointment, they’ve worked together, that’s a start.

Default Celtic talking to Tom Carroll
CelticTransferTalk @CelticTT 1h1 hour ago
BREAKING NEWS… Celtic have held talks with Spurs youngster Tom Carroll who is out of contract in 1month. #CTT
Sevco will play four games in July in the revamped fabulous Scottish League Cup group stage from which Aberdeen, Celtic, Hearts and possibly Hibernian (if the initiative to have them excluded from Europe fails.)
This group stage also includes an exciting first in world football as all drawn matches will go straight to a penalty shoot-out “with the winner awarded a bonus point.” Exciting trips to places such as Annan, Arbroath, Edinburgh City (not Leith!) lie ahead for the millions of Sevco faithful – and BT Sport is providing live TV coverage.
Meanwhile Celtic might have to play in less than exotic places in July in the qualifying rounds of the Champions league with possible opposition including Crusaders, Belfast, Dundalk or Valetta while they go to Dublin to take on mundane teams such as Leicester and Barcelona, followed by a fixture with Inter Milan. These games will be played under a new manager who will be in uncharted waters with a limited knowledge of the Scottish scene.
On the other hand if WWW (WBWO) is right about Warburton going to Derby County then they will have the services of their new super player Manager Joey B.
This totally unfair! Sack the board.
PARKHEADCUMSALFORD on 25TH MAY 2016 6:06 PM
In my previous post I meant to send out a warm fraternal greeting to all the other Celts who were there on the night. The entire Celtic ‘family’ shared and still shares the joy of that evening but for those of us who were there, we form a diminishing but far more exclusive clique than any on CQN :-)
Hail Hail to your dad…I hope he’s fine…
Gary67. Yet another midfielder as is the young American who plays for Fulham but in Brendan we trust. H.H.
JOE FILIPPIS HAIRCUT
There will be a bus full of players leaving Paradise too I would imagine…
Young American who plays for Fulham??? Pray, tell us more :-))
I got in too late to ask Tommy a question but most were covered anyway.
Thought this reply to Croppybhoy was magic…
Apart from penalty kicks my goals came from outside the box. When I hit the ball it stayed hit. Sometimes even the nets were scared!
I loved scoring at Ibrox both times from the penalty spot. Their chat was Gemmell is a bas***d – my mother really wasn’t pleased.
At that time the old Rangers had reached the Cup Winners Cup Final but if my memory serves me right, they got beat!
I especially liked the “old Rangers ” part :))
Thanks to you Tommy and all that contributed to that magnanimous victory, I’ve ripped the p**h out huns off for years…take care. Hail Hail
