Abada sparkles as Rogic stakes PoTY claim

175

An illness-ravaged Celtic swept St Johnstone aside in Perth yesterday with far greater efficiency than at Hampden last month.  St Johnstone went on a downward spiral after that semi-final, losing games since, but this was still an impressive performance.

Liel Abada sparkled in the central striker role, scoring two early on, and his Israeli team-mate Nir Bitton, tidied things up near the end.  Carl Starfelt made things interesting midway through the second half by conceding possession in a dangerous position, allowing St Johnstone to score with their only attempt on target.  Incidents like this will be a concern for Ange Postecoglou.

Liam Scales continued to settle into the side while Josip Juranovic on the opposite wing-back role put in one of his best shifts for Celtic.  Yet again, Tom Rogic made things happen.  The Aussie has flourished under Postecolgou and must surely be favourite for Player of the Year.

As Ange made clear after the game, the break could not come soon enough for Celtic, who ALWAYS prefer to play in front of a full crowd.

“did you ever get compared to morrison in your younger days ?”

Sadly, no. No musical ear, and I couldn’t carry a note in a bucket. ( Oddly, both my parents could sing like linties, and my Da could play the accordion and harmonica ).

The only way I could be compared to Morrison in my younger days was in my injudicious use of strong drink and, let’s say, recreational substances. They did me no good health wise, but I ended up luckier than the Doors’ front man. On the other hand, I was better looking.🤣😂😅

  2. CELTIC40ME

Thanks for that comprehensive analysis of the potential income from dIrect CL Group Stage qualification. Lays it all out clearly.

  3. Gareth Bale available from Real Madrid in January. Current salary a measly £515,000 a week.

Over to you, Mr. Nicholson. Get it done.

  4. CELTIC40ME – thanks for the hard work in analysing the UEFA guidance – very interesting and I may well try to follow your working for interest’s sake. Uefa do like a convoluted process, do they not!

    Thanks again – HH BGFC

  5. Brian F- the scroll by option is always available, Saint Stivs is IMO a cracking contributor to the site,re old photos etc,i have had opposite posts with him re the Board, NL etc,but always in good faith on both sides.

  7. INIQUITOUSIV & WEE BGFC

    Thumbs up.

To be fair to Uefa its not as convoluted as it could be and some of the changes have been a result of the big clubs trying to get a bigger share of the prize money, but they seem to have kept things quite fair.

They used to publish what they’d paid each club in each competition but not last season as far as I can work. out, and they sometimes publish what each club has earned to date at this stage of the season but I can’t find that either

  8. I don’t drink Mr cqn.if I want to look at old photos il do that.but this is a celtic page no a trip down memory lane.you think your the main man.you and the turkey armchair fan.he spouts nonsense when he dosent even go to the games.🚀🚀🚀🚀

Ta for that post on uefa numbers.:-)

Tell me the TV pool money how is that worked out?

Ie- are we pooled with epl? As in, we will be sharing the same uk pool? Or is it based on %.

Reason I ask i recall a few years ago sky should not reveal viewing figures within the UK.ie Scots subscribing to sky, which looked like a transfer of monies from Scotland to England.it may have changed.

    Thanks again

As you supposed, it is Australian and, IMO, pretty good ,too but I cannot remember if I have actually had the 2017 Shiraz featuring Hugh Brophy. I will keep an eye open for it.

I enjoy looking at your pics very much and always read your comments which I always find interesting, even when my views are different.

I am sure you don’t need me to tell you, but keep it up.

Your contributions are part of what makes this blog what it is imo.

  21. Why all these posts in support of Saint Stivs when Brian F is clearly more erudite, well-mannered ,thought-provoking and polite than St Stivs. Well, apart from the first of those qualities,….and the second. Actually . come to think of it three and four can also be excluded. Apart from that….

  22. AN TEARMANN on 27TH DECEMBER 2021 6:51 PM

The TV pool calculation isn’t transparent, I’d imagine there’s some commercially sensitive information included in the calculations, but I do know that we’re separate from the English teams. I think that when they talk about the value of the tv market it’s what the broadcasters in that territory pay uefa for the rights to the games.

The English market is worth so much that a few years back Arsenal got nowhere in the competition but earned more than the teams in the final because of the tv pool money. The Italian and Spanish giants complained and so the tv pool money was decreased significantly and Uefa started the ten year coefficient carry-on for what remained of it. It means that teams with lower coefficients from smaller nations suffered in comparison to the bigger countries, although the overall prize money increased enough that the actual amounts didn’t decrease much.

I don’t think any Scottish team would earn much more than a couple of million from the tv pool because of the numbers of bt sports subscribers in Scotland

  23. William Hill has all the Scottish Premiership matches on the 17th, January as KO times of 3:00pm. That cannot be correct, can it?

  24. for those who have more than one interest and can engage brain to discuss.

During holiday periods I like to go deeper in historical topics that peak my curiosity.

Ilike those sliding door moments in life, such as seeing James Edward as an old gentleman at celttic park many times as a bhoy, or that my father in law played football with Michael Conroy senior as bhoys.

The Old Ireland in Colour books are fascinating, Great resource material.

When Jim McCann says “thats how close we are to that bit of history” it is such a connection

Grace Gifford lived till 1955. There will be somebody on here who will know someone that knew her at somepoint in life.

    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FGfgpAdWYAIWUKk?format=jpg&name=small

and then there is Nora Connolly. Lived until 1981.

there will be people from edinburgh and glasgow who had family that knew her way back in her childhood. sat in the same halls as her father and others spoke to the socialist and irish societies.

  25. Just seen Leigh Griffiths goal in yesterday’s match. Absolutely brilliant. Even better than his 2 against England. The lad, Declan Glass?, scored a great goal too for Dundee Und.
